Well I've done a lot of reading on how bad 'cones are for your hair and such, and how many people refuse to use something with cones. However, I recently read a post by Absalom where he mentioned how he thought cones were great. This got me to thinking, and discovering that the two main products used on this board- Aussie Moist and L'Oreal Vive- contain cones.
What gives? Do the majority of you think something like Dimethicone is good, or bad? And does it really matter all that much? I used to use Aussie Moist, but after a while it just stopped working for me.
Here is a link to information that explains Dimethicone.
As I said before the effectiveness of silicone products varies from person to person. I have about 50% straight, 25% wavy, and 25% curly hair all mixed together which causes a severe frizzing and tangling problem. Without these products I would not have been able to grow my hair longer than low back length. I have the wrong hair type to grow to extreme length. It would be nice if all my hair was 100% stick straight, then I would not have to use these products at all. The silicone products allow the pick (A regular comb or brush does too much damage.)to glide through my hair with minimum snagging and breakage and have allowed my hair to reach almost knee length. To minimize hair loss and damage I also keep 9 or 10 soft cloth hair bands at 4 inch intervals along the entire length of my hair. I only have it loose for photos. Absalom
Could I just ask, do you have a faster than average (1/2 inch a month) growth rate, because is it true that most people's hair reach terminal length before they can reach a length as long as yours?
I believe so, (maybe 5/8 inch per month) and I have managed to minimize breakage and loss as well by wearing all those hair bands. I lose maybe the equivalent of 30 full length strands per day. It may total 50 hairs, but many are fragments, not full length strands. Absalom
Thanks for the info guys- and neat site, Gollan!
