What do you think about Evil Milkman's "trim"?
Meh..he's a good lookin' dude and looks fine either way. :/
I just don't like shaved heads. Never have, never will. Ordinary short hair looks OK to me, but not that. Sorry. To each his own, I suppose.
I didn't like shaved heads at one point, either. Now I do.
Technically, my head isn't shaved. It was a burr or buzz cut.
I still like long hair on males, and I can elaborate on that on my website sometime. I just loathed my own, which is really too bad...
I think that really sums up your reasoning. It really is a case of "too bad", because everyone else really admired your hair. I think that's why some of the people here are giving you a hard time over it. To them its a waste, but of course they never had to live with it, you did. You weren't happy so you did the right thing. No-one can really say this was a spur of the moment decision because you've been agonising over it for months.
Personally I'm pleased for you, because you took a decision for yourself and not for everyone else, that's precisely what it takes to be a long hair in the first place.
Hope to still see you around Evil M - respect to you.

I have hangups about skinheads. If you're lucky you've never met any.
Are you refering to neo-Nazis and racists? Then, yes, I'm glad I've never met any. Still, if people on this board or in real life want to prejudge me, that's their perogative, but I still say they can jump in the lake.
i like it actually, it suits him pretty well!
good job!
it's a big change hope he likes it cause if he's happy then i'am happy for him
...However clever you think you are by using the word "requiem" to explain my change of hairstyles, I find it a bit more than mildly offensive. I did not die, and I could even argue than even a part of me did not die. The long hair was no longer working for me, and I would appreciate it if you and anyone else who may read this thread would not refer to my personal decision as a death of the whole who I am.
Thanks. I'll take a chill pill now. :)
I agree - well said from beyond the grave ! Reports of your death have been greatly exaggerated. At least they couldv'e spelt 'requiem' correctly....
Enjoy the freedom from haircare routines !
I would use the term "lack of hair care routines" as opposed to "freedom". To most of us having long hair is freedom.
I didn't explain myself very well.
I agree, having long hair is part of the freedom I have to be myself. When I cut off my hair four years ago, the ONLY redeeming feature of an otherwise traumatic experience was the fact that haircare only consisted of rubbing my head quickly with a towel after showering. It was a freedom of sorts. I enjoy and need to have long hair but I don't enjoy all the time-consuming work that goes with it (which is probably why it's not in the best condition it could be)! I think that's a long-winded way of saying I'm lazy!
I did not mean to insult you. Actually I think it looks flattering on you. If you shaved it it would look very unique.
Thanks, Caleb. Apology accepted! :-)
Shame.

I guess wearing your hair long lacks a certain innate appeal for you all.
It's your friendly neighborhood Latin teacher here. Requiem does not mean death, though I know people often associate it with funerals. It is a Latin word, pure and simple, that means rest, relaxation, relief, break, pause, intermission, recreation, amusement, or simply--a rest from (something).
It is his hair. He is the only one who gets to decide what to do with it. His feelings about it are the ones that count. Thumper's mother's advice in "Bambi" is applicable here: if you can't say nothing nice about somebody, then don't say nothing at all.
In other words--take a requiem!
Robert
A Latin teacher? What neighborhood?
HERE is the definition of the word Requiem as per Websters Dictionary: 1."Any musical composition or service for the dead." 2."A musical setting for such a service." 3."Requiem rest, the first word of a Roman Catholic mass for the dead."
Very nice.
Not quite. More like "Just be yourself."
As someone of your linguistical sophistication must know, Webster's Dictionary is, in fact, an English dictionary. This is in direct opposition to, say, a Latin dictionary. It can be further assumed that, if you were to look up the same word in both dictionaries, they might, just might (and I'm going out on a huge limb here) have different definitions.
/sarcasm
Actually, you're both right. However, considering we're speaking English here, I'm going to have to side with Webster's. I hate to go against a fellow Latin speaker, though. : )
QUOD ERAT DEMONSTRANDUM
Some "trim"!! He now looks like Timothy McVeigh. I guess the guys on the buzzboard are celebrating!!!
Part of me wants to chuckle about your McVeigh comment, the other part wants to shake my head in disgust. Thanks for taking advantage of my change in looks to start making derogatory comments! I hope you're celebrating!
Is this a community of gentlemen? As longhairs we are subject to abuse and prejudice due to the length of our hair. How can we justify abusing others for their chosen hairstyle? I have nothing but respect for anyone who wears their hair differently from the norm. That goes for the peacock-like Mohawk cuts I see being worn young men and women in the downtown area of Ottawa and for the young lady at the bookstore who had a great summer 'high-and-tight'. It also goes for our friend and community supporter 'Evil Milkman'. His current hairstyle is one I've worn myself (look at my progress pictures). A guy with short hair looks like McVeigh? Then a guy with long hair looks like Manson? We of all people should know better. There are plenty of people in this world waiting to tear us down. We must support and encourage one another and treat everyone with kindness and courtesy. We must be gentlemen.
Sometimes I wonder if some people here have ever socially interacted with a short haired person. A few people treat them as if they are nazi's or the devil incarnate.
Actually, the problem is that some of them _are_ Nazis. Not short haired people per se, I'm only talking about close cropped hair. I recognise that there was a big fashion trend for this style recently (although it's over now, I think), so the vast majority of people with cropped hair are perfectly normal, but before that it tended to signify extreme right wing views coupled with a propensity to violence. Even then, there was an exception in the US, where it often only signified a 'clean cut', i.e. hyper conventional, image. That is to say still right wing, but repectable Republican, not Timothy McVeigh.
When I first came to the US from the UK I was actually frightened by seeing people with crew cuts, until I figured out that they were mostly harmless. I have been here a while, and the fashion trend came later. There are people here on this board of all ages and from different countries. For me, it's hard to get completely over the cropped hair = very scary person equation. Ironically, I suspect there may be people who feel that way about long hair, although I have no idea why (no, really, why is that?).
Well said, Gollan. You would think with the amount of time that is spent on this board supporting others against long-hair prejudice there would be much less hypocrisy.
Nicely put Gollan.
What I find interesting is the need for some people to become disparaging over different hairstyle choices. To me that is a sign of weakness. It takes absolutely nothing away from the rightness of long hair on themselves if another wants shorter hair.
The need to "out" someone else also intrigues me. Reporting that a participant has cut their long hair just strikes me as odd. Evil Milkman, and others in his situation, should have the choice to bring the topic up here should they wish. Currently having short hair in no way minimizes their usefulness here for they can speak from former experience.
Elizabeth
Absolutely, Elizabeth is spot on once again.
Though I'm sadden that E.M. cut his hair, (mostly because I respect and admired his dilegence in growing it out.) Its his hair, he's got to live with it, its his choice and I'm pleased his happy with his decision.
If anything like Treyn and others that have grown and cut before him, E.M. is more qualified than any of us to speak on this topic, because he's seen the best and worst of long hair.
I only hope he feels welcome enought to stick around and share his insights with us.

A charming way of putting it. This is, generally, a very courteous board and one of the reasons I enjoy being a part of it.
'The Gentlemen's Long Hair Hyperboard' has rather a nice ring to it...
I too come here due to the civilness of the group. I am surprised by some of the decisions that people make, but I support peoples initiative to do what they think is best. I've been cutting hair for over 18 years. It doesn't mean that I don't love to see all kinds of lengths and styles. Bottom not everyone looks good w/ long hair and vice versa. We have to find what suits us.
Ok, enough from me. Thanks for reading my two cents. Does this mean I have to leave the board for good now?
ck
Dude, I think it looks great on him, I actually like it!
I will miss his magnificent hair, I know that most people could have looked a lot worse when shaving their heads! He just has a face that suits both looks, something I don't have. I hope you're very happy with your choice!
Seems like I see more short hair and buzzcut pics on this board than long hair. How about fewer short hair and buzzcut pics?
Dear Hair Religion,
Well, you could help tilt the balance longer with a few more of your own gorgeous hair, pleasing your many fans. :-)
Elizabeth
I'm not here to bash the guy, but I don't like it. No offense dude, but the shape of your head only looks good in one of those pictures.
I'm not usually one to make criticisms, especially since I don't have a picture up (anybody in DC area wants to take my pic for this board, you're welcome--I'm just not inclined to buy a camera right now).
It's just that somebody needs to offer an honest appraisal--and I'm not a longhair snob either. I took 24 months of growth down to a flat-top one time. It was the shortest I'd ever had my hair, even shorter than when I used to be "short". I almost wish I had done a baldy back then--it's one style I've never tried.
Anyway, enjoy life Milkman. The cool thing about short hair is that it takes very little time to change styles. You could have an "aircraft carrier" on your head in two months I bet.
Hey Steve, you can always get your regular film developed to a digital format. Or, somebody in your neighborhood/work/family is bound to have a scanner you could use, maybe even a digital camera. Failing all of these, I'll be returning to Maryland in two months, giving you further time to grow for a picture.

Picture Purged
Thanks for the offer. FWIW, I have a camera, it's just really bad--it works fine for brightly lit landscapes and stuff where detail is not imporant, but can only make fuzzy face pictures.
The picture I'm posting here is from 1998 before my good camera broke. I've gone to a flat-top and back to longhair since then! The sides of my beard (when I choose not to shave it) have some grey now, otherwise I look pretty much the same. However, I've chosen not to register a pic simply because as a matter of principle using such an old pic seems rather lame.
Nice shirt. I like colour. A shaved head to me is not much different from wearing a ponytail 'round the clock (like I foresee myself doing), it's just not as flexible.
Hmmm...Too bad I can't get an inverse trim. I really liked the way his hair looked like in february and (sigh) look forward to the chance to have it that way. Hopefully it will be as nice and not really wavy I dont like wavy. Its never been anywhere as long. Right now, it gets to be say a cm. or so and pow! down to 3mm again for another 2 months just like him. I won't say that it is bad. Pretty cool during summer and I don't need to worry about combing it much but there still is that -what if...- thing.
