I'll get right to the point. My birth name is not Ivix, rather, that is a name that I made for myself to express who I am and what I stand for.
I hate my family. They are all mean and selfish, I am different (i.e. nice, caring, friendly) so naturally they despise me. My mom and in particular my niece who is older than me (sister had her before I was born) have really been giving me a tough time about my hair. They are telling me that I won't get a decent job with my head looking like this (see my picture), I tell them that if a company won't hire me because of how I look, I don't want to work for them anyway.
My family picks on me because of my devotion to my best friend, Nilok (also a nickname, actually his name spelled backwards, Colin, but with a K). He is my best friend in the world. They jeer and say I should marry him and have children, I say they are simply jealous of the fact that I have friends.
My above stated niece calls you guys at the hyperboard "a bunch of burned out hippies," I almost slapped her! I have a great respect for you people that I suppose goes beyond her primative understanding... after all, she's the one who puffs marajuana.
I really loath my brother. He is lazy, he is mean, he gets me to do everything for him, even stuff he could easily do by himself if he would just try. He would get me to wipe his backside if he thought he could get by with it. He is 40 years old and still lives with me and mom. I intend to stay with mom, but at least I help pay bills and buy groceries! He justsits on the porch and watches sattelite TV. And to top it off, HE KEEPS A SHAVED HEAD! I had to walk 3 miles (roughly 4 km, I'm American :)] to the library to post this message and they fussed at me for that because I wouldn't be there to help him move some boxes (meaning: move them for him).
In short, I'm in a fix. One day soon I'll get the internet and a digital camera, then I can see you guys, and you can see me, at home. I won't have to inconvenience myself to talk to you all (although it's worth it :)]. I'll be fine, I just wanted to rant and rave for a while, I feel a little better now.
Thanks for listening.
Don't let them get to you. A few days earlier Cactus Jack posted a message about his abusive step-dad and step-brother. So this is just some stupid critisism based on stereotypical a-holes. I don't smoke pot, I never have, nor ever will. I'm not going to smoke anything! So tell whoever criticises you based on your appearence, to take their opinions and blow them out their ass!
A bit of inspiration would be listening to P.O.D.'s "Youth of the Nation". That's who we are. I'm only 16 and I don't let this stuff get to me. So they're only words, not actions.
Picture Purged
You think anyone would call this guy a "bummed out hippie"? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... I didn't think so.
And you buy your niece's critisism when she smokes pot! That does some weird stuff to the mind. I'd just brush that comment off my shoulder, don't worry about it.
Don't stop posting here, even if it means walking 3 miles! I walk nearly 3 times that everyday.
Ee by 'ek lad you're lucky. When I were nobbut a lad missen we ad to walk 22 miles t'mill everyday and that were in us clogs.
Hey Surferdude, is that in your job? Your commute? Or do you just enjoy hiking? It's not rare at all for me to hike out to the zoo, walk along the beach for a couple of miles, and then walk home through Golden Gate Park and the Haight. It's about fourteen miles, and I'll often do it before lunch.
Any other hikers on here?
Bill
Hi Bill, I enjoy walking, not that I have to. My parents don't drive so I ave to catch a bus into school in the mornings, which is about nearly 15 miles away. But in the afternoons, I usually catch the bus to Swansea, the town, and walk the rest of the journey home. Takes me about an hour and a half. I have done The Duke of Edinburgh Silver award scheme last year where you have to walk 30 miles over mountains, basically hiking, for 3 days, so much fun.
I find that sitting at my computer for longer than half an hour really screws my back up and therefore the only way to improve the condition of it is to walk:) It also gives me time to think and focus on my goals on becoming a better musician, I literally play the music in my head and work it out how I would play it in real life while I walk, and I walk home about 3-4 times a week, the rest of the days I'm down the beach:)
It's great that you walk so far, that you're not giving it up as you get older, I really respect people like that! Not to call you old, I didn't mean it in a nasty way, but you know what I mean:)
So I guess I commute half the journey, then walk the rest, I'm still in school, and I enjoy walking/hiking for long distances:)
That sounds like a lot of fun. Do you do that with lots of other people? That could make it awesome. When you do long distance hiking, it seems you do a lot of it alone.
I, too, do my best thinking while walking. Much of the articles and programs I've written was hashed out while afoot. Guess the brain works better with all that blood flowing in it. [grin]
Hey, it's not nasty being one of those who gets to grow old, it's awesome! It sure the hell beats the alternative. [wink]
The other day I said to a friend I had friends mostly younger than me because I am probably in better shape than most 57 year olds. He said, "You're in better shape than most 30 year olds." If I'm not 30 yet, I guess that means it's like I've been in my 20s for 37 years now. Sure can't complain about that.
A lot of guys lose their playfulness as they get older, and I guess I never did. That's probably another reason I have younger friends.
Cool! Keep it up and you'll be young for a very long time. [grin]
Bill
I walk through my woods (all twenty acres of them) all the time!
I don't mean to make light of your situation, but it sounds like you've got some typical teenage blues, and I'm sure all of us can relate. I hope your comment about slapping your sister was in jest, there's too much violence in the world, some of which has come up on the board.
Be true to yourself.
"a bunch of burned out hippies,"
I might have long hair, but I'm no smelly hippy. :) I love eating meat, working out, drinking, listening to Metal. Stuff like that. 4 none-hippy acts if you ask me. :)
Show her this post, see what she says. :)

Yeah I agree with Nicol - LongHair doesn not equal hippy. I'm not a metal fan or heavy rocker either - I'm just a "normal" guy. Funny the misconceptions people like your niece have. That said we have hippies on the board too, but I dont think any of them are burned out. :-)
Ivix, there is a saying which I think you should remember:
"You can choose your friends but not your family."
Your friends are your choice and you should never let your family compromise them.
As for work - I don't think there are many longhairs on this board suffering unemployment at the moment so I think you stand a good chance of getting a job on your own merits I wouldn't let this be an obsticle.
Your biggest problem with finding work at the moment is not your hair but your age and your lack of experience, if you've just left high school then this is what is going to stand in your way, not your hair. (Oh yeah add to that 4 years of dumb economic policy from the Bush Administration - that works against the whole damn world at the moment.)
Sorted.
Me too, Elektros. I guess I'm a hippie, people call me that. I never made a conscious choice one day to be one. I came of age during a time when "freak" was one of the common social choices, and it's the one that most fit me. ("Hippie" back then was my father's generation's word. We were "freaks".) I like music from that era, like the fashions from that era, etc., but I never did the drug scene or failed to bathe. On the other hand, I do certainly dig your political line.
So "hippie" is different things to different people, and some of us smile when we're called that.
Proudly flyin' the freak flag,
Bill
