I'd hate to think I'm the only fan here, but isn't football great? (Yeah - football - that's the correct name not "soccer")
OK - I was gutted that England lost to France, conceding two goals in the last 3 minutes, one from a Brilliant Zidane free kick and another from a penalty which but for a mistake by Gerrard would never have been conceded. But England have played worse and won matches. Plus with the Switzerland vs Croatia match finishing 0-0 we have a very good chance of getting through to the next round.
Plus if your English you gotta feel good about Holland's fight-back against Germany Tonight, it showed that the Germans can be caused all sorts of problems by a big centre forward, wouldn't you just love to see Heskey trample over their defence? (*Big England Germany Rivalry*)
I know football can bring out the best and the worse in the English but I'm just proud and pasionate about the sport and I'm curious if anyone else feels the same? Football grounds can be a breeding ground for Neo-Nazi Thugs and longhairs aren't always the most welcome. Stil if its in your blood you gotta watch the games... :-)

PS: having watched hHolland tonight I have a new respect for Dreds, Edgar Davids hair is awesome. (see pic)
Yeah, those have been in a while, and have had a long time to mature. I wouldn't even imagine trying to comb those out!
It's true wat you say. The U.S. should call soccer "football" instead of American football. When you come from an Italian family like mine, soccer/football is a signifigant event, especially during the World Cup season. It's too bad that I haven't seen any recent games since that all that's ever on ESPN is American football. Soccer/Football, if you think about it, may be the international sport of the world.
I've been /ing soccer and football so I can translate for both American and Euro users. I'm also a southern Bostonian, so I'm kinda like a close neighbor to you guys in the U.K., unless there's someone up in Maine or Eastern Canada.
P.S. Have there been any recent soccer/football riots lately?
I dont watch too many sports (or much tv lately) but I would say I prefer fighting matches with some hockey thrown in for filler as opposed to football riots. I think those people are really stupid for destroying half the town they live in just because one side didn't win. They can't both win can they? What a bunch of sore first place non-winners!
You couldn't write that kind of ending to a match if you were scripting it! France deserved to win, Sven needs to realise we are not Italy, we can't defend that deep against the best side in the world and get away with it.
To keep this hair related, Totti had an interesting style with the half tail and braids and Cameronesi had a bun!
I think we defended superbly and Sven's tactics were spot on, at the time when France were all over us in the second half he made 3 excellent changes: 1) bringing on Heskey who is great at holding up the ball and giving us a chance to get out our own half. 2) Darius Vassell who gives us an outlet to smack a long ball and let him chase and 3) Owen Hargreaves for fresh legs in midfield.
We were beaten by 2 set plays one (the penalty) gifted by a dodgy back pass that would only ever get made once in every 100 games at this level.
Our real problem was going forwards as we didn't great enough goal scoring chances, perhaps this was because we were too busy defending for half the game, but it was still dissapointing we didn't get a single shot on target from open play.
We may have defended well but you need to take the pressure off the defence to give them a breather which we didn't. We just played a 4-6-0 formation. Everytime we cleared the ball it just came straight back. It's obvious that we are going to make a mistake if the defence has no time for a breather and is forced into a state of panic.
Agreed, I think this is what prompted the substitutions, if you notice they did actually give us chance to get back into the game. But Beckham's Penalty miss was a huge pschological boost for France, it really spurred them on.
I'm not keen about football, but I couldn't watch the match as I wasn't near a TV. I bought the Adidas Euro 2004 special edition deoderant spray, that stuff smells awful, I cannot stress how disgusting that fragrence is. I vomited 2 minutes after smelling it, it's that bad. In fact, I feel sick thinking about it...
Hey Sorted,
Aren't you and English teacher? The sentance below "Plus if your English..." should read "Plus if you're English...". OK so I'm picky, and really just having some fun in catching you at your own game. I'm sure it was an innocent typo. :-)

Not an English Teacher - far from it I'm dyslexic and I was semi-pissed at the time of writing the message. Not a good combo for spelling.
I think its Rokker who is the English Teacher.
Sorry, my bad.
I do have some interest in football, but I don't know Europe's teams. I do know it's a very competetive sport.
More decent hair on the \italian and French teams than our own.
Which UK team(s) do you follow?
The only one that's actually in the competition: England!
Though how much longer they'll remain in the competition is open to debate. :-)
I'm also following my adopted country Spain. There's actually a good chance they'll meet England in the next round which will be interesting. :-)
