First of all, hello everyone - I've been following for a while and have now decided to start posting. My hair is about 6.5 inches long pretty much all the way around. It's blond with a tint of red, and pretty thick. My hair is straight on top, then curls quite a bit at the bottom, and it's getting in my eyes to the point where it's hard for me to wear my contact lenses (I have allergies, making my eyes more sensitive to things like that). Problem is I need my contacts so I can wear my sunglasses - plus I like them much better than glasses, of course :). So what are my options as far as keeping it away from my eyes? I've tried wearing a hat, but after a while it starts to bug me and I have to take it off, only to find my hair is REALLY driving me nuts :P.
Thanks.

I may sound TOO obvious, but maybe you should put it behind your ears. Perhaps some gel and spray could help keep it there. Or you can try slicking your hair back.
What would you recommend for gel?
Hi, With gels experiment a bit. Cheap is ok, but try to avoid things that are likely to build up, e.g. wax which does not have water as the principal ingredient. I think Swartzkopf is good. Some products will be too light and will readily dry off. A more costly product is REDKEN Concrete (22) which is in a grey tube. Good, it sets hard for max. control. Fudge is okay too, in a small pot.
Aim for a shampoo that allows control, even one that enables you to wash your hair a little less often.
Products called gel-wax are a cross between two things, these are worth experimenting with.
I am not a hairdresser, this advice is just my personal opinion gained by trial and error.
Cheers everyone!
Wes.
Thanks everyone for all the advice :)
I got some Clairol herbal essences styling gel and so we'll see how that goes today :)

"Live better though chemisty". In other words, gel/spray/mousse your way through the awkward stage (or at least part of it) until you can put your hair behind your ears.
Keep in mind that cheap products dry out the hair and potentially damage it. You wouldn't put cheap wax on a nice car, don't put cheap products on your hair.
Best wishes

Don't forget you can use a cap/beanie/bandana/headband!!!!
good luck

I am nearly at the same stage as you, hair's nearly 6 inches and a problem for my eyes. Most gels I have used don't work unless you have straight hair, or otherwise if it's curly/wavy, it's gonna flick up and look really frizzled. I am learning to get through it, just part your hair if it falls in them, or wear a bandana, a headband could be used if you're at home.
Alternatively, let your hair curlv up in the condensation from the shower so it curls up yout forehead or eyebrows, but it doesn't look very good:)
Allice band works well to avoid this if you experience it- and looks quite good as well.
Decent ones in the UK for £5.00
Thanks UK, I ive in Wales actually so that really helped me a lot. I'm just slightly put off by the idea of going into a womens shop like Claire's, I might get someone else to get it for me. Superdrug probably sell them, just got to pluck the courage and go in there one day lol.
If you want to order one on line try

Takes aabout three days to come.
Its a UK company
I wear contacts as well, I suffer from eye irritation too, but not from a reaction to hair in my eyes. Mostly from eyestrain from stareing at a computer all day.
My hair has been getting in my eyes for ages, its 10 inches long :-) but I have trained my hair into a part so unless I throw my head around or get windswept my hair won't naturally fall into my eyes. But even when it does, I don't let it bother me, its just part of having long hair.
maybe try wearing a headband?
i know what you feel, i'm going through a second stage of "hair in eyes", sort of. It is now the hair more on top of my head that is exactly at the length where it's a pain because it gets in my eyes/nose...
But I guess that should be the last layer of hair that does this, so i bear with it :)

What type of headband should I get? and where? heh...I've never worn a headband.
I don't know, the only one i could wear with short hair i didn't buy myself :( What i use now is a simple piece of cloth like in the picture shown below...
I'm actually not sure headband is the term i want to use.

It's a square piece of cloth. A bandanna is the right size because "tying it around your head" is one of a bandannas intended uses. You can find bandannas lots of places. Here's a great page by one of our members on how to tie one:
If you wear your contacts you don't need your glasses. So use your Glasses to hold up your hair!
I always did it like this when my hair was too short to tie it back.
But believe me, I am glad, that it's long enough now!
Keep on growing and you'll see what I mean!
