I heard that guys with widows peaks are more likely to lose there hair as they get into there 20's and 30's? Is this true? And is it your mothers or fathers side of the family who you get the hair loss gene from? For example, my dad has a full head of hair into his 40's, as did his father. My grandpa on my mothers side started to lose his hair in his late 20's, about 40% from the time he was 28 to his late 30's. But it slowed he lived into his 70's retaining 35-40% of his hair, with a fair amount on top.
And how about Reagan, how the hell did he keep a full, thick head of hair into his 80's??? Even his wife commented that he got haircuts at the age of 90 and the barber had to thin his hair out before cutting!
Just so I am clear on this, what exactly is a windows peak?
Thanks :)
Its more of an ol folks tale I think. People keep telling me that I am losing my hair but it still looks the same to me. A widow's peak is when your hair on top in front grows out in kinda a V shape closer to your eye brows towards your nose. Think of it as a reverse balding man thing. Thinner on the sides with more on top. Like Eddie Munster. Yeah, you know eddie munster, right?
It's probably an old wives tale, cos the temples are one of the first parts to receed.
I don't think there's a standard by which everyone inherits their hair from one other family member. I know I was lucky and inherited my hair from my mum's mum 'cos her dad went totally bald, and my dad's dad went bald at the crown.
Thankfully my hair is very thick and shows no sign of thinning. Just a little premature grey, which is from my mum's side.
Best to just cross your fingers and hope you don't have the genes you don't want.
Of course, if you do start to bald, it's not the end of the world - my best friend's growing his hair and his has receeded to the crown. Regina's husband has fantaswtic long hair and he's bald on top.
You're dealt the genetic cards you're dealt for a reason - I know it can take a while to become comfortable with looks etc.
Good luck.

I don't know about widow's peaks, but there is a belief that you get your hair from your maternal grandfather. Mine had a full head of hair, but white as snow, and that looks like where I'm heading too, so maybe there's something in it.
I am at least one counter-example. As you can see in my photo I have a pronounced widow's peak. I'm 41 (soon to be 42). I had the normal male hairline thinning in my early 30s but there is no sign of baldness. Premature baldness runs in my mother's side of the family and it affected almost every male to some degree yet there is no sign of baldness or progressive thinning on me. I expect to be one of those 90-year-olds with some hair left to braid!
p.s.: In some of my progress photos there is a patch of scalp showing on my crown. This is due to my hair being thin and is visible because my hair is very dark. It is not the start of a bald spot!
Hair pattern is linked to the X chromosome, so technically men receive it from only their mothers, as men are XY. If you're a woman, you inherit your hair pattern from both your mom and dad and are XX. Hairwise, men get the short end of the genetic stick because if your mom's dad is balding, this significantly increases your chance of being like Gramps. However, men have to look at your mom's mom's parents hair situation, too.
Hairwise, women are luckier 'cuz we have two X chromosomes thru which to inherit hair pattern, so if dad is bald, but mom isn't, we have a higher chance of not showing much baldness, as there are just more hair pattern genes that can show up in us. We can look at dad's mom and her family, as well as mom's mom's family, adn mom's dad's family. It can get confusing, but basically explains why far fewer women show signs of balding than men do.

Wow, youre everywhere! LOL
I think rather than tracing your geneology or analyzing your hairline (which doesn't make sense right of the bat to me.. widow's peak and baldness?) you ought to look at your hair if you're curious. What I mean is, my mother's father had really thin, straight hair. My mom has really thick full hair. Well, I have one brother and his hair is thin, straight, and lays flat on his head. Mine, however, is a bushy mess. For this reason, I have a feeling my brother and I have a good chance of having our hair go in different directions later in life even though we obviously have the same grandparents.
Thin hair doesn't mean bald though.. my dad's hair is thin, and he's still got it. His dad's was thick, like mine, and he had it his whole life too.
I guess don't worry about it, and rogaine up if you feel the need.
I have a small widow's peak, but it's been there my whole life. Good hair genes all through my family, so I figure it'll stay here.
Yeah, Reagan had a truly exceptional head of hair, did you notice how niether of his sons inherited it though? Showing that it really is something that comes from the maternal grandmother and grandfather. A persons lifestyle also plays some part in it, so maybe there was something reagan was eating(or not eating?) that helped.
Men with a widower's peak (what you call it on a guy) are supposedly destined to outlive their wives.
