I've been a spectator of this board for nearly two years - Just wanted to let all of you know that, in large part due to your influence, I just went over 8 months without a haircut. My hair is now just past my collar in back, and down to my earlobes on the sides. I work in a corporate office, and have not had any problem yet, although the the office culture leans toward the "man in the grey flannel suit" look, and my hair now is longer than anyone else in the building (except the computer guys). I also grew a beard! What's kept me going the most is the "two week rule" - if I feel like I want to get a haircut, I wait two weeks. If the feeling is still there, I'll get it cut. So far, so good. How long will I grow? I honestly don't know. I'm fortunate, I guess, since I have not yet faced the dilemma of hair versus job. I never had long hair in my first 38 years, and I really like it!
hey keep it up ......that 2 week rule is a good idea ........i started growing mine at age 42 now im 45 and i really like it
I'd like to join Belisarius in his gratitude to this fourm. I've always wanted my hair long, so when I came across this site last December, I decided that my Thanksgiving haircut would be my last. More recently, I've decided to try letting my beard grow, too.
I work in government, but as an intern, I am given some degree of lee-wa, and my eventual goal is to teach in my local school district, wher long hair is accepted on guys, and I've even seen some of it! (I'm not sure about beard-length. I find the two-week rule is a good standard, and I figure that I at least owe it to myself to see how I look in both departments. I can tell you one thing-- I feel more confident and happy in how I look, in part due to all the compliments I receive at work. (My dad is still skeptical, though.)
Thanks again and keep it growing!

[Sorry! I put in the wrong photo. This one shows my first pony tail, which I tried this week Monday.]

Looking good, Adam. My fiance has a beard which he keeps cut in his own style and his hair is now down to his shoulders (growing since November of last year). Keep up the good growing!

Looking great - keep letting it grow longer
You're looking good! A beard will fit your face real well, and help strengthen the line of your chin. Nice hair, too. Keep it up. Give us a post every couple of months

Here's a tip if you get a little pressure at work while your hair is growing out. Keep the hair at the back of your neck trimmed to the bottom of your collar (which is generall acceptable in corporate America) while you let the hair on the top and sides continue to grow; comb all your hair straight back, using gel if necessary to keep everything in place. This is sort of a Euro-trash" look and is considered stlyish generally. In time all yoru hair will be to the bottom of your collar. Then you start the small pony tail, which may raise a few eyebrows, but it is such a small veriation on what you had been wearing to the office it is unlikely that you will get any overt grief. From there you just let it grow and before anyone knows what hit them, your a certified long-hair.
See Adam's post for an example.
Good luck!
Gary
Glad to know that you are enjoying growing your hair out.
I started growing my hair out at 35 and let grow to the middle of my back. I cut in January 1999 to my shoulders for a women of course. The women is gone and I'm back on my way to growing it out again.
Here is a site for what to expect on growing your hair long.
Keep it going.

you realy should grow it at least down to your shoulders so you can put it in a nice ponytail
I'm glad to hear you're hanging in there. Just remember to do it your way.

It sounds like both my hair and my work setting are similar to yours. I've been growing for about the same length of time, too. Good luck!
