I have lately been getting a lot of discrimination for having long hair (although knee high moccasin boots don't really help, I look like a mountain man). My mom has been trying to convince me that I'm going bald (at 18?) to get me to cut my hair. I said: "Even if I do go bald, what hair I have left will stay long!" She says she finds clumps of my hair everywhere. I say "It's perfectly normal to lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day." She finally said "It's very unbecoming for a man to have long hair."
I replied with "I'm not becoming anything, I like being me :)"
My brother keeps telling me to get it cut.
Lots of adults say I would look better with short hair.
I don't care. I LIKE my hair long, and LONG is how it's gonna STAY!
Ivix
That's the spirit!
Be happy that you live in this day and age!
My father has told a story of how the local hairdresser (small town) called him in and said his mum had told him to get a haircut, and so he cut off his long locks. His mother had done no such thing, the hairdresser just didn't like that his hair was long...
Glad to hear your families negativity only encourages you to be yourself and suit yourself. :-)
This Heavy-Metal Guy is right behind you bro. You are not going bald either. I know she is your mother but she should be more like my mother, and let you wear your hair how you like. I don't have family problems with my hair. My brother wants his hair long too, and he is doing good progress. Don't listen to your brother either though. Listen to yourself. You look becoming of a man to me, so what is up with your mom???
Long hair looks great on you, and besides, I can imagine it feels great and that should be more important than anything your family says. Don't give into pressure, and when it grows longer, it will look incredibly awesome!:)
Yea, you shouldnt cut your hair because you like it. Dont be pressured by your relatives to cut your hair. My parents wanted me to cut my hair but finally settled for a trim. I didnt speak to them for 2 weeks, they got the picture. I think people with buzz cuts are the ones who look weird... Im pretty sure people werent put on earth with razors.
Knee high moccosins?? Cool. Where did you get them?
They should go good with long hair.
And BTW don't listen to anyone but yourself about your hair.
Sounds like you need to surround yourself with different people.
I would like all of you to be a young black man for a day and then come back and call this crap "discrimination"

Wishful thinking there friend. Would you also wish for me to be thin again too? With even longer hair (like I have much to begin with...) I like it when people pray for me like this even though it wont happen.
What he describes is more like harassment than discrimination. However, just being white doesn't mean we have never experienced discrimination. People who discriminate do so against anyone who is different from them. That includes against people who are black, hispanic, Irish, jewish, gay, bikers or longhairs, etc. Some of these things you can change, some you can't. I could cut my hair, but I'm damned if I know why I should. Maybe you can't become white, although didn't Michael Jackson used to be black? The point, if there is one, is that people who harass or discriminate against others need to change their attitude. It isn't the people they put down who need to change, and as you point out, some can't, and even if they could, why should they?
great!
never give in! It is clear they don't want you to feel good, they only want you to kneel down before them. never take such people's advices.
take care

Tell your Mom: "I'm not going to let a woman control ME or PARTS OF MY BODY!!!!!"
