Ever since I washed my hair with bar soap my scalp has been sooo dry and ive been itching it non stop. When I shake my head around I see white flakes falling. Im guessing this is dandriff (sp)?? Ive never had it so I dont really know what to do.
No, that's not dandruff, it is dry scalp and perhaps soap residue. Don't wash your hair with bar soap! Here is how I would treat this situation: I would rinse my hair thoroughly under lukewarm water to get any soap residue out. Then I would apply conditioner to my length. I would rinse my scalp with diluted Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) (might sting a bit). I would thorougly rinse my hair again with lukewarm water. I would wrap my hair in a towel for a few minutes, then I would put some oil on my scalp and hair, concentrating on rubbing it into the scalp. Jojoba preferred, olive oil would be next best. I would leave this on my scalp and in my hair overnight. If the hair was oily the next day I would rinse it with lukewarm water otherwise I'd just leave the oil in my hair. That's how I'd get my scalp back to normal.
Thanks gollan ill keep that in mind for next time; I just took a shower and read your message when I got back. It seems my scalp is back to normal, I washed with 3 salon shampoos then used a conditioner for a while and all seems good. Btw- Whats the deal with jojoba oil? I had never heard of the stuff till I came to the board, people here seem to love it.
I can't find it in any of the supermarkets in my city.
Jojoba (pronounced 'ho-ho-ba') oil is thought to be the closest oil to natural scalp oil. That is why it is good to put on the hair after shampooing (which removes the natural oil). Jojoba oil is commonly sold in health food and nutrition stores. Where I buy mine it is sold in the 'skin care' section (not 'hair care'). Be prepared for some sticker shock - it is expensive. Keep in mind you only use a few drops at a time so the smallest bottle will last for many months. It also makes a great massage oil and is good for dry skin. I will also say that Jojoba oil works for some people and some people don't get anything out of it. If you're not sure about putting oil in your hair you could consider trying olive oil first. This will give you some idea how Jojoba will work. (Olive oil will smell stronger and break down faster than Jojoba).

It's less expensive and the purest form. I swear by mine.

I second the suggstion for apple cider vinegar. It's been working great for me lately.
... or dry skin.
Don't panic!
You may need time to adjust to hot weather.
UUm....aren't you ment to wash using natural soap like apple soap from health and body shops and not normal Imperial leather soaps, I would have thought they are too harsh for the scalp!
