I'm getting sick and tired of spyware. I had to reformat my hardrive and reinstall my OS to get rid of all the spyware. Is there any free programs that get rid of all the spyware.
Adaware doesn't detect everything.
norton....adware will get most of it though. you could also try housecall.
I too had too reformat because I got the sasser worm from spyware that was installed. Some programs you get are here, this is from a previous post of mine:
Youll probly want to download avast! antivirus home, its free and really good. Some other good programs to get would be WinPatrol, SpySweeper, X-clean, spyware blaster, a2 scan, spybot search and destroy. Those are the best programs out there and they are all free. You could find them by typing the name into google. Another thing that may be happening is, everytime the virus/spyware is removed, it is brought back by system restore. After you finish scanning disable system restore, reboot and then enable system restore again. It may be different depending on your operating system, but if you have windows xp, just click start, right click my computer and choose properties. Under the system restore tab, put a check in the system restore box. Hope this helps.
Kenneth, Helgast is correct regarding turning off system restore if you're OS is XP. That solution should work. A combination of a good virus detection software with spyware detection plus using AdAware to detect and delete or at least quarantine spyware type files offers good protection. One other note is to run AdAware and your virus protection software after you've turned off system restore and rebooted. I'd then reboot one more time and turn system restore back on. Good luck. spybot works real good ,and i use stinger by McAfee for the up to date virus scan both are free to use (Cody)
Don't use Kazaa, it's full of spyware!
I use avast! blocker. Yahoo pop up bloacker is actually very good at stopping annoying adverts. that's all I can think of that might help you.
What is spywhere?
Sometimes the Window's modem connection icon shows reading (or transfering of information to my computer) when I'm not viewing any web pages. I wonder if something is being sent to me without my being able to know what it is. My browser pre-load function is off so it shouldn't be preloading pages. This only happens when dialup connected to the internet; and sometimes it happens after dialup connecting but before I open the web browser or email program.
It's programmes that tracks and sends data about you and what websites you surf on, to what your interests are so adverts can target you. Dodgy stuff
I have a cable modem and it's probably just the modem keeping connection with the target server, maintaining the connection, just incase you send something.
I found a web site that gives some definitions of what is spyware:
http://www.spychecker.com/spyware.html
I think spyware should be considered an illegal virus, because spyware ...
1. is downloaded without the viewer's expressed consent.
2. does things on computers without the viewer's expressed consent.
3. is difficult if possible for the average computer user to remove.
If more people knew what spyware is and what it does, I think more efforts would be made to get rid of spyware so more people can enjoy the Internet.
