I have updated my website and posted my June 2004 progress pictures. Again I took my pictures outdoors and I think the natural lighting is very nice. My hair looks wet and dark because I had to use a lot of hair product to overcome the windy conditions. My June bonus pictures page is packed with pictures, including some braids! There is quite a bit of new material on my website as explained on my home page. I've also included some thoughts about my next goal, 'belt length'. It is *not* a given that I will reach that length but I will have fun trying! Thanks to everyone in the community for your ongoing encouragement and inspiration.
Dude, your hair looks incredible. It is soooo thick, almost as thick as a man's wrist at the base of your head. You definitely should grow it to your waist, you are a natural for really long hair. I calculated that a 20 inch ponytail will reach your waist assuming you are 5 feet 4 inches in height. You should be able to reach your goal easily. (I am between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall and there is a 23 inch span between the base of my head and my waist.) And lastly the braids. Your hair is not long enough yet to look the best with the high woven braid. Give it about a year and the high braid will work well. On the other hand the low braid looks fabulous right now. Keep on growing it and thanks for sharing the photo updates. Absalom
I am about 6'5, how long in inches do you think it will take to reach my waist and beyond?
For a ponytail to reach your waist it has to be about 1/3 of your height. For you that would be about 26 inches. Best wishes and happy growing. Absalom
Did you do the braid yourself? It looks very impressive!
Thanks, my mother did all the braiding. Mine would not have been impressive at all.
Incredible hair, Gollan! You seem well-suited for wearing it unrestrained, the low tail, or the low braid. I agree with Absalom on the high braid, it seems to put things out of proportion for a clean look, at least until you have some more length to reach further down your back.
I noticed in the latest pictures some distinct differences in hair color, is this natural or maybe because you mentioned using a lot of products that day? Do you find you still need to use gels and the like to keep it back in the tail, or will it stay on it's own?
Congratulations on year 2!
Thanks for the complements. I hardly ever use gel now. I just use leave-in conditioner or Jojoba oil and sometimes a spritz of detangling spray. The tail stays completely on it's own. My hair color is... interesting. I naturally have several different colors, mainly dark brown. But there are a *lot* of mid-brown and some reddish-brown hairs. After my hair is freshly washed it is fully a shade lighter than it is when it has product or oil in it. One of these days I'm going to get brave and take a "wash day" photo.
Awesume! It looks great Gollan. (Bet it grew better than you ever thought possible.)
I too am going for waist length if I can make it.
Can't help but think at this point you are receiving many compliments and NO negative comments. If not, you have a compliment from me easy.
Hey Gollan,
Great update there, and I really enjoyed your pictures. Its great to see such a regular set of updates, really helps you gauge your own progress.
Very well grown, and good luck on your Journey to "belt" length.
Sorted
PS: The low braid style looks really good. I'm suprised more Guy's aren't more comfortable with it.
Welcome man, you've defintely arrived.
I had no idea your hair was that long just yet. Congrats!
It's awesome!
The length in the back is really noticably long now, as well as the bangs. I like the low braid too! Good luck on your journey to grow it to waist length!
Man, you've really come a long way of two years of growing. Time really flew by huh?
Waist-length sounds cool, go for it!
Fantastic looking braid. I was also wondering if you braided it yourself.

Gollan your hair looks great. Hope you can make it to your buttocks. LOL.

The software screwed up. Let's try this again.
Your hair must grow really fast. I've been at it 6 months longer and I think we're even.
The low braid looks great. Is it comfortable? Can you do that yourself?
Thanks. The braid is very comfortable though it feels a little odd when it swings around. My mother did all the braiding in the pictures. I can braid but I need more practice.
I think that the high braid isn't a very good style for you, BUT!
You should try a french braid. That will give you the length of a low braid and the awesome look of the french braid against the back of your head. Dreamweaver braiding has instructions on how to do this yourself (I've been braiding my hair this way for awhile, though my length isn't as well suited for it as yours is).
