Hi Guys
Just thought I'd share my June Progress Pics, this marks 17 months of growing my hair out.
Quick Update on my hair status:
My hair has gotten straighter with the extra length, so there is good news for those struggling with flips during the awkward stage as I did. However some of the extra straightness is thanks to the REDKEN Anti Snap leave in conditioner I'm using to prevent damage as I've started to find split and damaged ends and I don't want to trim yet.
Here your seeing me from the front where my hair is pretty straight, its a different story from the back which the following pics will show is still pretty wavy, but this is to be expected as my hair still hasn't completely cleared my shoulders.
Day to day my hair is pretty manageable, less so on wash days so I'm trying to get 3 days wear between washes, the leave in conditioner helps a lot with this. If my hair is a little wild then I simply tie it back or tuck it behind my ears, its nice to have both options nowadays.
I still don't feel I've really "made it" yet, another 5-6 months should get me to my goal length though. After that - it'll either be maintenance, or a new goal... :-)
Sorted.

From the back:
As you can see still pretty wavy as the hair hasn't completely cleared my shoulders.

And from the side
Hairs looking great Sorted! Its also looking err familiar? Lol its is quite similar to mine! Yours is longer at the back though I think...grrr :-) j/k
So, only a few months till you reach your goal? Wow thats cool! I think you'll e.x.t.e.n.d your goal when you reach it though, hair growth is addictive!
My exams finish tommorow (finally) so Ill post some update pics soon too.
See ya,
~Gaz
ps: how well does it stay tied back now? Even outside on a windy day? (mine doesnt quite yet if its windy)
Thanks Gaz - I probably will e.x.t.e.n.d my my goal once I reach it, but I'll get things evened up across the back first. I think though we are very similiar stages I just haven't trimed the back up as much as you.
Oh and to answer your question:
My Ponytail is pretty safe except if its really windy, but a light breeze presents no problem. My hair is more likely to fall out on a wash day, so I keep my tail for day 3 in my cycle. On a day 2 at the moment which for the past 2-3 weeks has been my best day so I wear it down on days like today :-).
I use the half tail if I want it 100% safe.

Looks fantastic! Your hair really looks a lot longer than I remember only about a month ago. Your hair will probably straighten out eventually too (maybe a gradual wave). Either way it should be excellent!
You're right about the thick hair!!! It looks heavy and thick, but I bet it's not heavy? Hope mine looks as thick as that.
Its thick, sure, I wish it was a little straighter still, but I love the feeling of it around my shoulders... well worth the wait.
Another 6 inches of length should straighten out the wave considerably. You will have the best of both worlds. Your hair will be pleasingly long but still easy to manage. Absalom
And it really is loking totally awsome. Glad you're enjoying it. A good example of really healthy hair and how much better you look than the short hair look of spring 2003.
Sorted, your hair is awesome!!!
Have you put on a little weight, comparing to your february pic?
Anway, It seems as though have arrived already!!:)
You must be a pretty cool web designer with that hair!!
Thanks SurferDude.
Actually I have put on a little weight, but not in a bad way - I'm 6'1 (185 cm) and I'm now 12st 12lbs (180lbs - 82KG) whereas I was just 12st 3lbs (171lbs - 78 KG) so I've gained 9lbs or 4 KG. Which actually suits me better. Infact I'm trying to put on another couple of pounds and reach 13 stone.
LOL - thanks - but hair hasn't helped my web designing... I'm not the creative flair behind my company, I'm the Analyst. :-)
Wow what a difference from January 2003 to June 2004!
You do not look like the same person: the longer hair
suits you much better.
You have obviously taken good care of your hair since
it looks to be in great shape: healthy, shiny and all
around great looking!
Good luck on your Journey (how far are you planning to go?)
Thanks Luckskind, actually most people think I look better with long hair, not just you guys so I feel vindicated in my decision to grow it long :-), Thanks for you support and encoragement.
I originally set a goal of shoulder blade length, which my lowest layers will reach in about 5 months time. So I'll hold there whilst I even out the back of my hair. (This will take another 5-6 months) Then I'll probably grow longer, maybe follow in Resonances footsteps.

Hey Sorted -
It looks fantastic!!!!!!!!!! You should be proud of sticking-out the earlier period of growth.
I am now in my 22nd month and well know of what you speak of when it comes to "weight + Straight." Ha ha ha..........I still get flips also, but they are diminishing all the time. (My secret is the weekly use of "Hot Oil" and leaving in some Aussie "Leave-in Conditioner." Seems to give the ends of the hair extra weight.
Think you will find a sudden dramatic change (to the better)
during the next 5 months or so if your hair is anything like mine.
Again, your hair is Awesume looking!
Justin
Thanks Justin,
If I'm honest I didn't really believe the "stick it out" philosophy that the senior board members were touting when I was in the worst of the awkward stage. But I was so wrong. There is light at the end of the tunnel if you have patience.
I've been so much happier with my hair since I gave up trimming it every 3 months, the faster progress, the reduced stress of worrying if the stylist will cut too much, the fact that your hair naturally starts to look better and straighter.
I still believe trims have a part to play in growing your hair out, but patience has a much bigger part and I feel like I'm living proof that things do get better. The past month or so I've felt much better about my hair I can see now that by what your saying in 4-5 months time I'll be happier still!

Hey Sorted-
There sure is............no question about that. Better put on your Dark Glasses cause the light's so bright!
Yes, but it IS true............the hair eventually just falls into place. I myself was "tempted" a few times to get a "trim" myself, but glad I just refused to look in the mirror. Afterall, I wouldn't want that to break! lol :-)
How about "living proof of great success?" There seems to be such a debate about trims. I say ea. to their own when it comes to these as they ARE (if done well) a quick fix at looking a bit better for a little while. (And really, every guy wants to look better.) The REAL BETTER comes when your hair at long last has grown for a couple of years and the compliments start "out-of-the-blue" from strangers.
And when it comes to being happy, just you wait. It will be more like extasy!!!!!!!!! (There suddenly seems to be a total freedom that emerges, and with that great inner happiness.)
But you are staring to experience it even now. GREAT! It is ALL up-hill from now on. Patience is such a killer.........but still, the reward at the end far outweighs all you had to go through.
Yes, your hair looks great. It IS! And it looks terrific and goes with you perfectly!!!!!!
Now the "fun time" really takes off and I am so glad for you that you stuck it out. Regrets? NEVER! Compliments? You will start noticing more and more. And, (and this is really funny), those that earlier may have said some nastys are all of a sudden in awe of, stunned, or jealous? (Who knows?) Please don't be surprised if you get some questions from these very same people as to: "How did you do it?" That is really their way of telling you that THEY are very much interested........desire long hair for themselves..........but are trying to gather-up courage enough to "see what it is like for themselves." (Otherwise, why would they even ask?) In the meantime with hair like yours, YOU end up bt stealing the show. It is a blast!
Hope you are having a nice evening.
Justin~
I am very impressed with your hair's thickness. Have you measured its growth rate? It seems to be growing at least at 1/2 inch per month.
Looking good Sorted! It appears to be very healthy and cared for. You're actually one of the main guys I pay most attention to when it comes to haircare tips and product recommendations - which brings me to this question: Have you tried Aussie Leave-In Conditioner? Are you in a position to compare it to REDKEN?
Thanks DV, much appreciated.
No I haven't tried any of the Aussie Products, you can't buy them in Tenerife, mind you you can't by REDKEN either, I buy that online. I've tried a few different brands but I've found REDKEN works for me well, though its not cheap.
I also find that Herbal Essences is really good too, but I've never tried Aussie so I can't compare.
Sorry mate

Great update, your hair is excellent and thickness is incredible. The curl in the back might resolve itself as your hair gets longer but seriously it looks fine now. That ponytail is already great. In a month or so you'll be wearing it with out a care. Good luck reaching your length goal!
I think you look really nice with either long or short hair---some people tend to look better one way or the other. Regardless, your long hair does give you a --- OK, I'll say it --- sexier tone. If I were your gf, I'd tell you that I love the sense of all those locks falling about your face, on a windy day, while you were eating, or during moments of, well, whatever ;)
Another great update from one of the Hyperboard's best regulars. Keep it going man, and keep posting, it's always great to read what you have to say.
What fantasitic hair!! I was disappointed that there were no back or side views.
There are - see lower down the thread. :-)
I like your progress.
Dude, your hair looks just great. As for growing it out I would suggest 6 more inches or another year. It will give you more options of how you can wear it. With 6 more inches a ponytail should hold together on windy days even if the hair tie slips down a little. Best wishes and keep it long. Absalom
