Hello,I have been growing my hair for 8 or 9 months now and I have to say im a bit disappointed with its progress. It looks long enough but its not really what I want.Im looking for *really* long hair that could best be described as an 80's hair metal throwback.I came across this site while browsing and I was wondering if someone here could give me some advice on how to achieve *really* long hair.Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Boru:
Welcome aboard! Congrats on deciding to grow your hair out. Unfortunately, there's no way to achieve really long hair other than patience. Contrary to popular belief, trimming your hair doesn't make it grow faster, and the effectiveness of vitamins that claim to encourage hair growth is widely disputed. Hair grows about 1/2" month, so you can expect abotu 6" of growth a year. There are several awkward stages and many days of frustration, but in the end it's worth it. And always follow the two-week rule: before you have anything permanent done to your hair -- cuts, color, highlights, etc. -- wait two weeks before having it done so you have lots of time to think about whether you really want to go that route.
This board is a great source for inspiration and information. Again, welcome, and we're glad to have you around!
Jeremy
Cheers,thanks for your help.
Welcome to the board!
There's really only one truly sound piece of advice anyone can give to someone looking to grow their hair long: don't cut it.
As for how long it's going to take you to reach your goal, most of the hairmetal bands in the 80's didn't have any longer than shoulder to mid-back-length hair. If you're going for an 80's style length, it shouldn't take you more than about 2-3 years. Waist-length will take you about 6 years. Sadly, there ain't nothin' you can do to speed up the process.
If you want to speed up the process, try shrinking :D
Since I am so friggin tall it might take me 7 to 8 years to reach my waist. Not my goal though, I want much longer like an inch from the ground or longer. at Hair Religion's site it said hair like that I will be a Hair God hehehe :)
Or crazy. Imagine the hassle of having to try and avoid water puddles on a rainy day, with ground-length hair?
GAH!
;)
I don't care. Water is good for hair, and I enjoy the rain :) Yet funny with muddy hair lol, but I wouldn't care.
I think you couldn't enjoy the rain cause your hair will be pretty heavy form the water!
But I like your goal! Having such long hair must be a great feeling, so lets try to!
Keep growing
On rainy days you just wrap it around your neck like a scarf when walking outdoors!
There's always a simple solution.
;-D
Welcome Boru, your hair is probably at that difficult unruly awkward stage. All of us here have gone through (or are going through) this in our journey to having really long hair. Growing your hair long requires you to be long on patience. Your hair should grow about 6 inches per year, maybe a little more or a little less. My advice is to just let it grow, you may not like the way it looks now but it will look better when it gets longer. To get through the awkward stage in the shortest time I recommend to aviod trims. I am giving generic advice here since I do not know what type of hair you have. (straight, wavy, curly)A photo would be helpful. Absalom
