I hereby withdraw my membership to this forum as in the thread about the draft I merely stated my beliefs and opinions and I have been attacked on all fronts from everybody just for my beleifs. It's tantamount to those who make fun of longhairs because they have long hair and believe in long hair. I would stay just fine even if everybody stated they were anti-war but barely anybody did that, instead they just attacked me. One person even gave hint that they thought I was a Nazi. Obviously not worded that way but if you read it you can pick up on it. If anybody would still like to carry on a civil debate with me or just talk my email is in this post. I thought this was a good place where everybody could state their opinions and still find this a safe haven but I was horribly mistaken. To those of you who attacked me for stating what I believe may God curse you for you have acted in a terribly cruel way.
If we quit something everytime we had an argument our lives would be rather boring and secluded. I think the lesson you learned is that this is not the place for discussion about things other than hair. People have passionate views. I don't remember the actual topic, but I believe you said something along the lines of "Everyone should have to do service in the army". Fact is you can't speak for everyone like that (especially on such a sensitive issue). You offended people by saying that just as they have offended you. It's a two way street.
Stick around, we lose too many posters over heated debates. It'll all cool down.
It was rude of them to hurt your feelings, but I don't think they meant any harm. Your beliefs they just probably don't understand and I think you would be a hero if you did go to war even in a draft. It proves you love this country and I think it is great you do. I was about to go a few days ago, but I seen how much these people actually care, and they are good-hearted people (Most of them) I will always be your friend and I don't wanna see you go, because of a few hurtful remarks.

Actually *I* didn't say a thing because you're entitled to your opinion. I stayed out of that thread because it is a controversial topic. You stated your opinion and some people provided a rebuttal. That is a classic debate. Some people launched an attack. That happens when you discuss controversial topics. I have an expression for this: "don't turn over a rock if you don't want to see bugs". In other words, if you don't want people to attack you don't talk about controversial topics. On the other hand, talking about controversial topics can improve your skills at debating and in very rare cases could even change your mind when arguments are raised that you didn't consider (of course you have to listen carefully to the other opinions to get this potential benefit). In this case I suggest you stand your ground and let this hot wind blow right over you. You'll be wiser and tougher for it.

In case you hadn't noticed, there's no membership required to post here.
Thanks, we love you, too.

ROFLMAO!!!!!! :-p
The only requirement for membership is a desire to have long hair (from the Preamble of Longhairs Anonymous)!
Or having previous experience with long hair (*hat tip to Evil Milkman), or just enjoying long hair and being too chicken to actually grow it. : )
I sure wish I could find God's phone number. I have a few questions and He has a lot of explaining to do.
When you get that number, I'll be needing it too!!! LOL
The reason I started this thread was not to start a flame war. My reason was as I was thinking of ways my hair could be sabotoged GWB came to mind. If I was drafted not only would I have to fight in an illegal war, but I would have to cut all my hair off.
Sounds very on-topic to me.

Dangit, every time I want to do something everybody changes my mind. As for the "God damn you" remark that much I do resign and hope there's no hard feelings on that part and I offer an appology to those it was directed to. I suppose I must come clean, I always, and in this case do, enjoy debates to a good degree yet the problem is some nameless people strayed from the rules. There are certain rules to be followed and I get very frustrated when nobody goes by them. Anywho, let's focus on hair and the massive ammount of unrelated cans of worms. And I use that phrase quite much for this board because many of a thread may be described by said phrase. Lastly, the only other reason I did this resignation post is because I wanted to excersize my big words. Whenever I'm in a ferver of anger or what have you my words get big. It's fun! Oh great, there they went. Now it's all simple talk. :/ Thank you to the responders of this thread. To you I offer this--> :D
Apology accepted. Thanks.
Marc
When you call draft dodgers "cowards" and "un-american", you will offend people and in turn you will get a negative response, because you are judging people's actions by your motivations and beleifs not by their own.
You clearly do not see room for a person to oppose their government, but you have never had to oppose your government because you've always believed in what it stood for. I wonder how you would feel living in the US if Ralph Nader became president?
Maybe if you went and lived in a country like Cuba, you would know what it was like to feel policially sidelined by your governement.
If you look at the thread, the response you received was triggered by your own sweeping judgements, if you consider for a moment that other people may not share your philosophy, then you can first consider how you might broach a topic in a way that is pursuasive but not inflamatory. You'll see that this technique generates a much less hostile response.
Personally I think you'll do better to stay on the board, atleast you'll learn how to handle liberals without shooting them as desserters.
Sorted
now that last line about God cursing us was just uncalled for, and seemed pretty offensive to me
the only reason i responded the way i did in the thread below is because you came off as insulting the beliefs of the Liberals and Hippies on the board (like it or not, being a Hippie is a REAL political/social Philosaphy that many people do indeed follow, and is not just an insult you can throw at someone) and by saying that all people who believe in God MUST go to war and serve, again i'm sure im not the only one on this board who believes in God and finds that statement offensive.
however, while i do disagree with your opinions you do have the right to have them, thats not what it was about, it was about you putting down other people for theirs, but i'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and saying that it might have been acadentaly worded like that,
but regardless you don't have to leave the board because of that, just try to be carefull of what you say because it CAN open up a can of worms you dont want to deal with when you start talking anything like that
I never said that believing in God meant going to war. Reread all that I said and you'll find yourself mistaken. Secondly about the God cursing thing read my "Unresignation" post and you'll see I retracted that statement and appologized. Why not read a whole thread before you assault a person?
what you "retracted" is not even what you SAID so how can i say you aplogized for it?
second, i'm not the one here "assaulting" people, if you remember you were the one who was putting down hippies and people who are anti-war, looks like you just put your foot in your mouth
Resignation accepted!
Three cheers ! Now run along and go play at soldiers.
Yeah but you don't always answer your emails!
I thought this was a good place where everybody could state their opinions and still find this a safe haven but I was horribly mistaken. To those of you who attacked me for stating what I believe may God curse you for you have acted in a terribly cruel way.
Dude, you might not know it based on what I said about the draft, but I've voted Republican in most elections, independant in a few, and only once did I vote for a Democrat, and it wasn't over a war issue--it was over the environment. The R on the ticket had presided over a notorious river pollution incident.
I've labeled myself as a conservative before on this forum, and although I'm leaning Libertarian for November, I won't hesitate to label myself conservative again on any number of other issues, and let the chips fall where they may.
I don't know about you, but I enjoy a good argument. Yes, the ad hominem lamers are a drag; so just don't engage them. Just ignore them. Don't let them ruin the fun. You ignorant slob. :)
Stick to the topic of the board and you will not have any problems, you opened the wrong door
... I don;t share your political views, but I hate to see any longhair feel unable to remain on this board.
I consider the mutual support of this board is very valuable, and I hope that even if you just lurk for a while, you won't disappear entirely. Your inou is as valuable as everyone else's.
Your intent shows in the two posts you made.
The first post was about needing a place to go in order to avoid the draft, then you posted a "verbal spanking" for those who replied stating how unmanly you felt it was to avoid the draft. I see nothing but malice in the posts you made.
I say put down the fake gun and uniform, and sign up for the military today.
I reread the posts below after posting this comment. I realized too late that Kenneth was the original poster.
*caught having a blonde moment*
I believe the correct phrase is "Open foot, insert mouth," in fact. *grin*
I allready did say I am no longer resiging upon the complaint, a jocular complaint mind you, that every time I try to do something I always get talked out of it. Sherri, you said to put down the fake gun and uniform and join the real military. Well I would like to let you know right now that the guns are not fake little toys. They're real things. For Spanish-American War and before it you only use repros, sometimes an original but they all can fire a bullet and are real guns. WWI and beyond you use original weapons from then. All the Mausers the German re-enactors have are the Mausers the real Germans had. All the M1s the Allied re-enactors have are the M1s the real guys carried.
But are you enlisted in the United States military? That was the main focus of her inquiry.
I know but I was hoping I could...dare I say it...dodge the question. Hoo hah! Actually I got caught up in making sure it's known we don't use toys that I forgot that part of the question. I am only 17 and my parents said even though I'm young enough they said that if I want to I have to wait untill I'm out and on my own. My thinkerins are either National Guard or go on Reserve if I even do anything military related. I'll probably, though, just find a nice job at a park service, hopefully either Gettysburg or Sharpsburg (Antietam for you Yankees) but if both fall through I'll pick Valley Forge because even though Revvy War kinda' puts me to sleep they are looking for people.
I should explain what I meant and why I said it, although I can't seem to find the original quotes. I know this risks making matters worse, but it seems you didn't understand me.
You denigrated Germany for staying out of Iraq, apparently on the grounds that it was not like them to avoid a fight, based on their history. Germany was only founded in 1877, beleive it or not, and their military history consists largely of World Wars One and Two, in which they were the agressors, and which reflect nothing good on them.
The war in Iraq was another war of agression, and it is to Germany's credit for staying out.
Maybe you have been getting a little too much into character?
Well when I say about Germany's history I meant more about where Germany is and the Germanic people. Because when it was first adapted by man they called it Germitzig. So somehow you get the word Germanic out of that, don't ask me how, and down the line you have many many wars where the Germanic people are always ready to get into the fighting. I know it's a terrible example, but Adolf Hitler in WWI kinda proved the desire to fight that is inherent in those of Germanic blood when he rejoiced upon the war being declared and when he signed up he was very nervous and worried even suffering panic attacks that he'd get a desk job. But upon hearing he was going to the front lines of the heaviest fighting he stepped lightly and with glee. He even felt he was an instrument of God due to many close calls. Very odd man. Some times he's just plain goofy, other times he's the Devil himself and in some aspects, and very few I assure you, he did do one or two good things, primarily Germany's economy. Pre-Hitler you'd be paying 42 Billion Reichsmark for a loaf of bread. Within two months of Hitler's rule this horrid inflation was down fifty percent. In another two weeks it was gone. He also united the German people into one community. Borrowing from a speech he gave he said that the goal of the Nazi party was to "be interested in the community's desires over that of the minority." That was taken far out of context when it came to the Holocaust but I basically mean he brought the Germanic states, Austria and such, into one big group. Lastly, for Germany, he brought back a little bit of nerve. The Kaisers just kinda bent over come end of WWI and the nasty treaties and all leaving Germany in the pooper and no where to go. Come Hitler time, though, you had guys ready to go back out and fight again because Hitler brought them back their nerve. Those are some good things he did, nobody in the world save Satan can be 100% evil. Now as for the downright evil things Hitler actually did do theres practically no need in mentioning them. The Holocaust, a war tha caused millions upon millions of casualties, in the end destroying Germany saying that if "Germany cannot win then she must be destroyed." You see for him the world was set down as "Alles oder nichts," all or nothing. If Germany couldn't rule the world then Germany won't allow it's self be ruled and will destroy it's self. I went waaaay off topic. Sorry. Not resigining, I'm staying, that's the main point.
Picture Purged
Hahaha!
Dude, i'm not even a democrat but what's the point of even posting that? your just looking to strir people up again it seems.
just chill out man
And no doubt if anyone gets annoyed by it he will say their reply is antagonistic
Yeah, who needs the agrivation of it. it's what he wants anyway it seems, mabye if we just ignore the nonsense garbage posts like that he will just give it up and stop posting it because that's what people like that want, a reaction from someone
anyway this topic has been up long enough and it's gone so far off-topic i say let's just end it and get back to other things
this will be my last post on the matter
IT'S A JOKE PEOPLE! LIGHTEN UP! HAVE YOU PEOPLE NEVER HEARD OF HUMOR?! I mean come on, that was meant in jest, I thought if you guys are thick enough to laugh off when you're called a girl then you can laugh off a picture I found on the internet. If you guys can't take a funny picture how can you stand it when people make fun of your long hair?
That's a fair question.
Re being called a girl. Firstly, since I beleive in equality, it shouldn't be an insult to be called a girl, otherwise that would be saying that they are inferior. Secondly, they usually take better care of their hair, so if someone thinks my hair looks like a girl's hair, that usually means I am having a good hair day. Of course, some people mean it as an insult, but they are simply a*s*holes and I ignore them.
Re general long hair insults, it is just something you get used to, and it is balanced by the compliments you invariably get. It's nice to get compliments from strange women. If it also means that some idiots shout "get a haircut" from a moving car, then that's life.
I guess an ad hominem attack on a political party is only funny if you support an opposing party. I have seen that as a sticker in some workplaces and also on an e-mail list, but I have yet to meet a Democrat who thought it was funny.
Besides, I get FAR more positive comments than negative. Yesterday I was out traveling around with a friend who also has long hair. Three separate times people commented that they really liked my hippie T-shirt, and one of them wanted to know where I bought it. I doubt I would have gotten those comments without the hair to match. One guy who was 65 and had very thick gray but short hair told me he had hair as long as mine once, but that he cut it because he lived in a conservative town. I could tell he was crying inside. But the best comment was from a guy and his girlfriend. He had really short hair and she was never able to get hers longer than shoulder length. They were asking us how we got our hair to grow so long. He wanted to grow his hair way out, so we gave him tips!
We got no insults at all yesterday. [grin]
Celebrate it long!
