How often should you shampoo long hair? Mine is bit past shoulder length. If I go 3 or 4 days without washing mine, it gets oily and ugly. Is it ok to wash every day? As far as brushing goes, is hair supposed to come out a lot more when you have long hair? There isn't a huge amount in my brush after I comb, but enough to have to spend the time to pick the strands out. Also, everytime I run my hand through my hair it seems a strand or two will end up coming out. Do you just notice it more since it's long?
You're pretty typical for a longhair. We took a poll on here sometimes back, and most guys wash between "every other day" and "two times a week". "Every day" and "once a week" were much less common responses.
It is normal to lose between 50 and 100 strands a day, and that many generally grow back. It's just that when the strands are longer, you notice them more. Remember all that hair that used to end up on the floor at the barber shop? Now that you are not cutting your hair, it is ending up on your floor at home. After all, you are still producing the same amount of hair, and it has to end up somewhere.
The amount of time between washings depends on the person. Things
such as the oilness of your scalp, your climate, your shampoo, and
whether you have dandruff will influence how often you wash your
hair. From what you've said, maybe you should try every other day.
Mine is shoulder length and I wash my hair every two or
three days. In general, you should shampoo frequently enough
for your hair to be clean and comfortable. Washing does put wear
and tear on your hair so be gentle and never brush it while it's wet.
On average, 100 hairs fall out per day. It is much more noticeable
when you have long hair.
I have hair that is almost shoulder lenghth and wash it every day.
I usually wash just once I dont repeat. Then I condition it and leave
it in for about 3 minutes my hair gets kinda oily if I dont. I think everyones hair is different and mine gets oily fast. Not only does it look clean it keeps its shine and smells good.Hair is porous and can absorb odors too and this helps prevent that. And I think its normal to see your hair shedding.(just like a dog)After brushing mine I see 3 to 5 hairs in the brush this is normal brand new hairs are taking their place every day.Use a detangler brush after shower and brush GENTLY because Ive noticed the longer it gets the easier it breaks off I like Thermasilk
moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and a medium blow dryer with a diffuser(it works good!) and stop just before its completely dry to avoid overdrying and it smells sooo good all day. Ive gotten compliments on shine and also the smell. Hope for it to touch shoulders by December.
i shampoo every day if I dont I get oily hair...........I have very oily hair
I shampoo my mid-back length hair every other day or, sometimes, on the third day. I loose TONS of hair! To stop the sewers from backing up, I removed the shower drain cover and replaced it with an inverted, plastic hair catcher had have to scoop out a huge wad of hair after EVERY shower. The bathroom floor has to be vacuumed weekly just to suck up the carpet (literally) of hair that covers it. The brushs and combs must be cleaned by gripping and pulling wads off them. I'm not going bald - just lots and lots of hair made more noticable by its length. It's friggin' everywhere! I have two Yorkies. Guests ask if they shed. Hell, it harder to clean up after ME than the yip dogs.
thanks you the advice......before i read your letter I used to wash my hair everyday now i wash mine every outher day and the funny thing about it is I like the way it looks and feels the days I dont wash it
