Seriously, I feel like that guy on CHIPs. Curly hair really sucks when you're trying to grow it out. If this were 1977 I'd be right at home.

  Heh. My friend with curly hair is having an awful time. He's been trying to grow it out since September and he insists on getting undercuts for some sort of reason. His hair like molds into an afro. It always sticks up so he always wears a cap or uses gel to try to hold it down...

    Hi there from Southern Africa : have your friend ever tried to use lemons on his “frizzy” hair and with the use of a decent conditioner found that it is more manageable and after washing it not as “afro”. I am Portuguese and as you very well can imagine have long dark curly hair. As I have to take care of it and yes pamper it by washing it and then treating it again with a decent Conditioner. Its is truly more manageable and last longer even in coastal areas.

  Yes but when you 'turn the corner' on the awkward stage you and your curly hair are going to look awesome and very unique. Long curly hair is very, very rare because it is so hard to grow. Keep your eye on your goals, and good luck!

  I have curly hair as well, and my ceramic flat iron has been my source of sanity. The key is finding a good one (mine's a Farouk CHI iron) and not using it more than you have to (so as not to damage your hair).   just stop worrying about your hair.
  if it was ok in 1977, it should still be so, no? otherwise it's just a trend change, and trends don't matter anyway
  put your mirrors away and wait a few months, you will be pleasantly surprised
