Hi,
I'm 18 and I've noticed that as my hair has started to turn lighter from its original deep red, there's about 5 or so grey hairs lurking in the under layers. They're all as long as my other hair which is about 4 inches or so, so they're not new, just that my hairdresser noticed them for the first time. I have vague memories of finding one or two when I was much younger but is this cause for concern??
Thanks,
Since you are young, the grey hair is not a thing to worry about. Stress can cause premature grey hairs. Even if you were 40, I still don't think grey hair should ever be a concern. The only thing bad about grey hair is your color is gone. Since you are young, it is realy not an issue. I had grey hairs a few years back, because I was stressed out all the time. live a little, and be happy. That is your best solution :) Good luck and let that hair grow.
If your hair turns gray it won't fall out. So look forward to it.
I have had a few grey hairs since I was a teenager. They stayed relatively few in number until my mid-30s. I now have a significant number of greys at 39. I wouldn't be concerned about something that naturally happens.

I noticed the same thing a few months ago while checking for split ends to trim off. I have several strands that are completely white all the way to the ends indicating they've been that way for at least a couple years (I am 18 also). I haven't worried much about it though since they are covered by the rest of my hair and not that noticeable.
A couple grey hairs at 18 is unusual, but it could be a lot worse.
One of my room-mates in college had an actual grey *patch* about an inch around. He was in ROTC so he always had a buzz, and his hair was blonde so it was not to sharp a contrast, but it was still unusual.
The other oddity I've seen (this could be an Asian thing because I've only seen it on Asian guys) is a bald patch that isn't in the usual MPB spot, but off to the side or something.
I spotted my first grey in my late 20s when I grew out the first time. I've heard that CRTs can cause grey due to radiation, and I did indeed spend many years with a CRT. If you still have one of those beasts, get an LCD. Even if the radiation thing is a myth, at least it'll clear up desk space. I still only have 1 or 2 greys at 36, except for the beard which has too many greys to pluck on the sides now. That's the last place I wanted it too, because I like to leave the sideburns/moustache and shave the rest of my face.
It depends. Whether you'll go completely grey or just have a few stray greys depends on premature grey hair running in your immediate family (mother, father, grandparent(s)). If so, there is a statistical correlation with premature grey hair and auto-immune disorders such as diabetes, thyroid abnormalities, lupus, etc. Mind you, we're talking PROBABILITIES not absolutes. Otherwise, you'll just have the few that you have. As for me, I started going grey at 17 and am fully grey (well, salt & pepper) at 40. But I still have hair :-)
Take home message: don't worry, keep it long, and see what happens.
I'm 17, and I think I've got a few gray hairs too. Thing is, my hair is two colours, blonde and dark brown, all natural and I haven't ever dyed my hair. Sometimes, a cluster of dark brown hairs mixed with blonde ones in the centre gives the illusion of gray, but when I separate grab all the blonde's in 1 hand and the dark brown ones in the other hand, they are those colours, not grays.
Stress can cause over exhaustion and damage to your folicles, that's why people sometimes develop the Salt n' pepper look I believe, but after a short time of relaxation, the colour returns. Just chill man, and everything will be ok (not encouraging you to do any drugs or anything lol!)
at least in my case and has since I was born.
When I made the STUPID MISTAKE of falling for a very short haircut two Summers ago, what was revealed was almost a "Salt and Pepper" look.
The hair is now almost 13" long now. The "salt" is very hard to find, and the overall colour is a very very "dark" brown. My lifestyle and what I eat has remained unchanged throughout.
The ONLY thing changing is being "closer to the Tomb than the Womb!"
Cause? I haven't the slighest idea.
I have had some white hair for as long as I can remember; only now they are freakishly long so it's stranger when I find them!
I don't think you have to worry. What would it change? :)
