Just commenting on a post you made further down concerning testosterone levels. You mentioned 'Testosterone is a major player in the development of your beard'. Does this mean that if you cannot grow a beard, or haven't started to grow a beard then the testosterone levels in the body are low? Is that how it works, or is it alot more complicated?
Thanks
I don't think so. I've seen a few balding men with rather thin, patchy facial hair, so I don't think that's true.
I thought the test levels only have something to do with facial hair... Considering that Im trying to grow a beard (not working well) But my chest is like a fur rug,
I am also curious about this. I know that DHT promotes growth of post-pubertal body hair (such as armpit, arm, chest, leg), while paradoxically wreaking havoc on poor scalp hair.
I have little body hair, other than my legs which are of medium density. My arm hair is entirely vellus, and I have no chest hair. The only thing near a beard that I can grow is crappy sideburns, but they are very thin.
That would lead me to assume my testosterone levels, and hence DHT levels, are low. There are two guys at work who are very hairy, one had a receding hairline and the other is a fellow metalhead longhair, with a full head of hair. So that doesn't really add anything to my assumption.
I am tempted to enquire about a test so I can get my levels checked out, instead of just sitting here theorising.
Matt.
Same here, although I have very little chest hair Couldn't even grow sideburns to save my life, what little hair is there (sideburns) is very light blonde colour. My Dad has a hairy chest though, so I don't want to think that there's nothing I can do to lower my levels of testosterone.
I just want to add, What things can be done to change and lower your level of testosterone safely, without using medication?
The only thing I could find was that plant based fats help to reduce testosterone and 5 Alpha Reductase which, combined, produce DHT that terrorises hair. If you are serious about altering any testosterone levels, check out as many sites as you can with information about illnesses brought on by low levels, plus of course professional advice.
Why do you want to lower your levels anyway?
Thanks, I'm not going to lower them, I was just interested, so If the time comes where my hair begins to thin, or I develop health problems accociated with too much testosterone in the body I'll know how to combat it :)
I am pretty sure that your testosterone levels are pre-set by your endocrine glands (pituitary, thyroid, etc.) and there is not much you can do to change it. I have heard that soybeans contain estrogens. (a female hormone) Eating a diet rich in soy might help but I am unsure on this. Absalom
I am in my 50's and my facial hair is somewhat sparse but well capable of growing long. Usually men with high testosterone levels will have much denser facial hair growth, and at a younger age. Absalom
Thanks guys!
