With all the "I'm cutting my hair" posts, I've decided to ask a question. Who here is in it for the long haul? I mean, how many of you definitely will not be cutting your hair for any reason? I know I'm one of them because I once had long hair before and I cut it for some of the same reasons other people did. To be more socially acceptable, avoid rude comments, etc. And cutting it was the biggest mistake ever...it won't happen again. I love my hair long and plan on keeping it that way for the rest of my life if possible. So who else is with me in this endeavor?
I'm definately in for the long haul, I will not cut my hair for any reason. I simply cannot go back to the way I used to look.
Since growing my hair, I've had far more compliments of women and hardly any negative comments from anyone. So don't expect an out of the blue post from me announcing I'm giving up, trust me, that will not happen!
I think a lot of older men would look awesome with long hair, even if they were balding. I just don't see why all the older men 60 and up that have full heads of hair just don't let it grow. Being old and having long hair is a sign of wisdom.
I know one guy who had short hair all his working life and grew it long when he retired. The wierd thing is that I used to work with him and I have long hair, so it's not like he actually had to keep it short for work!
I am not concerned about the awkward stage in the slightest. I've never really given it a thought. So I'll definitely be letting my hair do its thing and grow. Hopefully my hair and roots will become stronger now that I've actually started caring properly for my hair.
Matt.
i feel much more emotionally strong and self confident since i have long hair. and i think it is not a question of age.
I think the same as you dude, you are not alone! im willing to be deported from hong kong if necessary (check my other post for info) :-)
It won't come to that, Singapore is the one with the long hair ban (also Albania and Turkmenistan).
I'm for keeping my hair long. I've kept it long for over 10 years. About the social acceptiability and rude comments, I found that rude comments were MUCH less frequent when my hair got long enough to tie back into a pony tail. Also my hair is easier to manage when it's long enough to tie back to keep it from falling into my eyes or bothering my nose. During the awkward stage it kept falling into my face and drawing negative attention, but once it got long enough to tie back I never cut it again.
I'm with you. For the last several years I have been a cop with really short hair. Recently I decided to go back to college to retrain myself to do something else with my life (tired of being shot at). I figured since I will be in college for two more years, this is the best time to grow my hair out. I started a year ago, getting mantinance cuts every 3-4 months, and Im not happy with my progress. If I had it to do over again, I would not have cut it at all (just deal with the mullet).
I'm here, looking forward to making it all the way!
Mac
Well Im around the two year mark and if my hair continues to grow up to at least the three year point I will be keeping it for a long time.
I am a longhair for life. I have been patiently growing it for about 12 years and I like the results. To see the reward for 12 years of patience and dedication, click on my photo, don't be shy. Absalom
I do not plan on cutting my hair again, but must also qualify that with the "never say never" catch. I had long hair once before for about 5 years, cut it when I finished college to find a job in my chosen field. Now, about 8 years later, my desire for long hair has not gone away, and a combinations of several things has taken over: I feel more established at my job, I am more established financially so that I could afford to make less money if I had to in order to keep my hair, and after all of these years I have realized that it really is a part of me that will not go away!
I have no thoughts of cutting at all. Never thought I
would have ever let my hair get this long (mid-back)in the first place...
and now I have no idea of just how long I want it to grow!
Guess I will let it keep on growing until the question
answers itself!
You "beat me" to an answer like this since I have been away and just got back today. But THAT is my answer also. If it be an addiction, it sure is a blast, is so completely natural and harms no one.
Hey........Luckskind...........have you ever noticed how great it feels against your back the longer it gets? I love it!
And...........the fun long hair affords just to play with it? The feel of the wind blowing it around. Fantastic!
In short, (for myself anyway), the TOTAL sense of freedom and happiness it brings. Even compliments from men and women who I don't even know are much more frequent now. (Admiration compliments..............not ONE "Downer.")
Hope mine can make it to my waist or longer before "Terminal" is reached.
Yes, lately I have been touching my tail when it falls forward.
Sometimes I think of it in the same way someone would touch
a rabbit's foot--for Luck!
I always though long hair would feel sort of 'itchy' against
my skin...but the opposite is true.
Only thing that does bother me is when some little stray hairs blow into my eyes or around my forehead.
Then it tickles & annoys!
He he he..........I do it all the time. And when NOT in a tail sometimes swoop one side over to the other, (over the shoulder) and let it stay that way. An "Aysometric(sp?)" look which is lots of fun. Let's face it........Long Hair IS Fun! :-)
ooooooooooh..............how true. Like Silk and so "dreamy feeling." (A free massage so to speak.) Isn't it great!!!!!!!
Yes, there are "some" set-backs..................but all and all these little things would NEVER make me cut a single hair!
Nice hearing from you and many thanks.
Justin~
not while I still have my hair. I have my moms hair and it grows very fast.
I have been growing it for 2 years from a buzz cut and it is at about nipple length (for lack of a better description) and I have the genetics to grow it beyond my waist. I am 17 right now so I have a while.

P.S. I would post a pic but I have no digital camera/webcam/anything.

If God really convicts me that there's something wrong with it, I'll cut it. The last time I cut it, that was the reason; but I think I've been wrestling with an overdeveloped religious guilt complex for years. That's at least part of the reason I grew it to begin with--as an antidote to the irrational "everything you do is sending you to Hell" mentality. Actually, this reminds me a bit of the other guy on this board who has OCD that caused him to get lots of cuts. Also, I would never jeapordize the welfare of my family. If I had to do it for a job to put food on the table, bye-bye hair. Finally, I may just decide that it doesn't fit me. I've "tried on" a lot of things over the years. Long hair has been a recurring theme, but it's definitely had cycles and I can't say I won't phase out again. I'm 31 months into this grow-out, and that's the longest I've ever gone. So, I've been thinking a lot about cutting lately.

Hi all, I am new to the board and thought this would be a good topic to get started. I am 21 years old (one month away from 22) and have had long hair since I was 10. I've thought about cutting my hair many of times but could never bring myself to go for a "short" hair cut. I want to enjoy my hair now while I still have it, just in case it starts falling out later in life. The shortest I've had it since I was 10 was last october I went to a salon and the women cut it way shorter then I wanted. It was still long by most standards, but it was really short to me. Just below the top of my neck. BTW the photo I am adding is of me three days ago
Include me on this one. Right now, at 24 months, I live with a this is the last time that my hair will be this short outlook. In fact, my hair will never again be as short as it was when I began typing this post! This sentence! Oh, how things can get carried away...
Count me in! I'm dedicated to stay with my look as of right now and in the future for more length. I couldn't imagine myself quitting my hair growth and looking like a douche bag. That's just not me.
The only one who makes rude comments of my long hair is myself heh. I guess because I live in a large city more things are allowed here. I have no reason to cut my hair and I certainly wont...
I'm one of the guys here who won't be cutting my hair until *I* decide, and nobody else. At the moment that's going to be a long time away if I've got anything to say about it.
I am. I've been growing my hair out for the past 3½ years or so, and I did cut it off at one point. It was unavoidable at the time, but it still bothers me, thinking how long it could've been.
I'm definately not planning on cutting it again.
In fact my cousin asked me yesterday when I was getting a haircut next, and I said in 1½ years time or so I might get a trim. She just said alright, no problems there.
The awkward stage isn't really bothering me at all, as I think it isn't too bad for me this time around (it was horrible last time)
After more than 30 years, I have no intention of ever getting a short haircut.
If I've discovered 1 thing over the last 18 months, I'm much happier with long hair. Its definitly in my blood.
I'm not saying I'll never cut back or trim, but I certainly plan to keep my hair long just as long as I have hair.
I'm in baby!!!
I've always wanted long hair and, now that I have it, I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Every couple of weeks there's a new sensation where it tickles my back in a new place or even the back of my arms. I've never been more content with myself and haven't received any negative comments (at least to my face). I really don't see why I would need to cut it!
Keep it growin', y'all!
Brett
I'm in this for the long-haul for several reasons. First, I find long hair easier to care for; my hair's so thick and dry that when it's short I have to use lots of product to make it look decent. Also, I receive many compliments about my hair; I've yet to have anyone say they prefer me with a buzz cut. But most of all, I feel much more comfortable with my long-hair self than I ever did with with my short-hair self; I truly feel this is the real me.
Cheers,
JBC
Almost four years here... the pics from January... I'm growing mine AT LEAST to my butt!!! However long it gets after that is gravy...lol....
Rob
I'm also a lifelong longhair... I ahd hair almost to my ass 4 years ago, but had to cut it. Now I'm growing it back and intend to keep it long for the rest of my life. Next stop butt length!!!!!
Longhaired for life!!!!
Rob
What was the reason you had to cut it the first time?
I haven't even had a trim in ten years. I plan to live another 40 years or so, again without any trims or cuts.
I think as with all interests, there are some who are definitely into long hair for the duration, others have a short term interest. Good luck to both kinds of people, I hope they all have a good time growing.
Been in for almost two years (first week of Oct) and no plans on cutting or trimming. Haven't had any doubts up to this point either.
I am in it until I get to my goal, which is shoulder legnth. Once I reach my goal, I will start trimming regularly.
I have had long hair for most of the last 30 years or so and I don't even think of cutting it - not in the foreseable future anyway. I consider myself "a born longhair"; my long hair is an inseparable part of my identity. And even if I would want to cut it my wife won't let me do it :-)
A Linux Longhair
i dont see any reason i would want to cut my hair in any way.
I haven't cut my hair since 1992 -- beard since 1996. I'm still thinking of cutting the beard, but I haven't made a decision yet.
I'm new here, so I don't know how qualified I am to answer this question, but as someone who once had long hair, and then cut it, I can tell ya, I'm not doing that again! I was so totally depressed afterward, it felt like somebody cut off an arm. So, I'm with everybody else who says Never Again!
Besides, it seems when I had longer hair I got a lot more attention from women, and tons of positive comments from them.
The only negetive comments, for me, came from other guys, or female family members (my mother & grandmother especially)!
I actually have a friend who got mad at me when I cut it! (not half as mad as I was at myself but still!) I think it was because she liked to play with it, oh well, whatever. She's overjoyed that I'm letting it grow again! I just wish I hadn't let my mom talk me into cutting it! grr!
Oh well, just thought I'd share,
Austin
