Does anybody know a list of religions that mandate you must have long hair. I'm looking to get involved with one so if someone namely a employer tries to discriminate against me, I can say longhair is a part of my religion, then if they do it they have a civil rights lawsuit on their hands.
There are several hindu sects that require you to never cut your hair. Also, Buddhism has a tradition that allows you to grow your hair long during hermitages. (but usually they have their heads shaved)

That kind of lawyer would probably be too busy chasing after ambulances.
Hello,
I am sorry for my english cause i'am french and it's hard to explain what i want to say but i try it.
My origin is Sri-lanka and i had long Hair since 15 years !
My Hair grow 3.27 cm by month (it's anormal but i am lucky).
I had 1 Meter 27cm the long of my Hair !!! (this not world record). The world record is INDIAN "SWAMY" (it's mean : hindu Priest)and he have 15 Meter !!!!! It's very impressive.
I think For Hindu and red indians and japanese (Samurai)and some Ancient religions, the Hair is very important for the Mens because If you don't have a long hair they can't give a respect! For the red indians is very proud to have long hair specialy for warriors !
I am not Hindu but I belive this religion i don't why but i love to have a Long Hair because i know i am much stronger in Long Hair than short hair (maybe i am WARROIR TOO!!!)
Don't cut you hair like me please !!!
I 'll promise you i keep my to hair to grow Now (for me it's take just 1 year)
Noel
Your hair growth rate is probably a world record. Hair normally grows 1.2 to 1.3 cm per month. The rate you quoted is 39 cm per year. My hair grows fast at about 1.5 cm per month but your growth rate is absolutely amazing. My hair currently is long enough to tie into a 1 meter ponytail but the longest strands are about 1.11 meters long. As for hair 15 meters long, I DON'T THINK SO!!!! I do not believe any person on earth has hair longer than 6 meters. A man in Thailand who recently died at 87 years of age had hair about 5 meters long and that was a WORLD RECORD. Absalom
this is very very bad. shameful.
stand up on your own

Sikhs (who are definitely *not* Hindus) are supposed to never cut their hair or beards. So if you also want to have a big bushy (or braided or tied up) beard, wear your hair in a turban, and follow a number of other practices (like getting up at 3AM to pray/meditate), that may be the religion for you!
Even so, Sikhs often have trouble being allowed to keep these customs, particularly the full beards, in the USA. Domino's pizza, in particular, has been able to fire them as employees if they did not shave. Guess how many Domino's pizzas I've eaten in the last 20 years.
Rastafarians and Sikhs are the only ones that come to mind. Oh, Hassidic (sp) Jews don't cut the corners of their beards or temples, and nazarites didn't cut their hair or beards for the full duration of their vows (some for 30 days, some for lifetime).
That's a good list. Another "religion" may be native American traditions. I think some Native Americans have won cases in defending their right to have long hair. I wonder if the Eastern Orthodox Christians have long hair mandates--I've seen that many have long hair and breads.
That would be disingenuous to claim that you are something that you are not.
This gets brought up about once a year and some of the guys who are part of a group that holds long hair as part of their heritage or religion find it somewhat offensive when someone else wants to manipulate the system by claiming to be one of them for awhile.
If an employer has a problem with your own personal preference and cannot hold an equal rule for both genders under the same employment then trying to convince both your employer/potential employer and the legal system that you are in fact part of an ethnic/religious group that requires long hair and cutting it would somehow hurt you is a bit of a stretch to pull off.
You would be better off to claim to be a part of "Hair Religion"...because you already are if you are trying to grow it long.
I agree that it is intellectually dishonest to pretend to belong to a religion. Maybe, however, if someone is genuinely looking for spiritual enlightenment they might consider the beleifs of various sects on long hair. I'm an atheist, so I can't pretend that.
Rastafarians wear dreadlocks, and they are normally West Indians, i.e. from the Caribbean.
Sikhs are about the only other people who are required to have long hair (and beards), and they wear turbans, plus they are all from the 'North-West frontier' (of India). They are supposed to always carry a dagger too! However, I know at least one sikh who is clean shaven with short hair, albeit he has lived in the US most of his life.
I was filling up my car the other day at a place owned by sikhs, and the man there remarked to me how he was so pleased to see a man with long hair.
Islam allows you to have long hair.
Most scholars agree that shoulder length is very recommended.
Maybe you should have pointed that out to those guys who were trying to insult you because of you hair since they were Moslems too.
