I was curious if anyone here knew the significance of wearing one's baseball cap backwards? Where/how did this get started? Does it have a cultural or street meaning of any kind? I have nothing against the look of it although many people do. I have done it in front of friends right after they slammed the practice, just for good-natured meanness.
Well, I asked around and people say that snipers had to wear it backwards when they take aim to prevent it obscuring their view when firing.
Another explanation is that it gets in the way of kissing someone.
I've also heard that it started with the hip-hop scene -- essentially a Black American scene -- as a form of protest.
Meanwhile my longhaired colleague is chatting up a new girl -- talk of the office.

Baseball catchers. Baseball catchers. Have to reverse the cap,
to wear the mask. Adopted by various people. There is almost
never a real "significance" to fashion accesorizations.
PS: I wasn't kidding about mullets.

Thank you. I like mine.
correct. The backwards hat comes from catchers. This 'fashion' statement dates back to the dawn of the modern baseball hat. Catchers are a proud breed, and when not playing often wore/where their hats backwards to identify themselves.
I have played catcher my whole life, and have worn my hats backwards since I was 7 years old, starting on my very first day of T-ball in 1977.
