San Francisco's Folsom Street Fair is the third-largest street event in California, attracting hundreds of thousands of people. Yesterday about 25 Internet longhairs met and did the fair, and the one thing those of us who have done the fair before commented on, over and over, was, "There are lots more longhairs!"
Hair length was longer in general. We saw lots less skinheads, and quite a few guys with inch and two inch hair who were probably buzz cut some time ago. But we also saw a lot of guys with hair in the "several inch" range, and guys with hair a little longer, loose or in short stubby ponytails.
Greatest, though, was to see the number of guys who were already longhairs - guys who had decided to grow their hair longer many months ago. Two years ago at the fair one could quite often look off through the crowd and see no longhairs at all. You couldn't yesterday. Any direction you'd look, you'd see at least one longhair, and often three or four, wandering through the crowd!
There was no mistaking it, we all commented on it, there were more longhairs. Since California is a style leader, hang in there brethren in the hinterlands, long hair is coming back!
Amen, brother! Back in the early 90s I got ahead of the crewcut wave, but it was never really me. I'm on the longhair side now, and I firmly believe that it's the wave of the near future. Even if the wave passes, I'll remain long forever, and my wife is totally cool with it.
Bill,
I can only say I'm relieved and look forward to your prdiction coming true.
Charles
thats great news I hope it makes its way to the east coast
I notice more in the San Diego area--of all ages, too.
Huzzah! Hurrah! Hurray! and all that jazz. That's the best news I heard in a long time. Wish they'd get it down here in Orange County, California. There are some, but never enough. I'm glad to have one at home whose hair is down to his shoulder blades now -- when we met a year ago, it was just at the nape(sp?) of his neck.
Chaeya -- Keep that hair coming, boys!!!
I have noticed the same thing here in Upstate New York. I see
longhairs almost every day now.
I was recently in Paris, and saw a similar phenomena--I was amazed at the number of ponytails on men, ponytails that were mostly in the six to eight inch length range, all one length. I live in the metro Washington DC area, and the contrast between there and Paris was striking! It was as if a whole bunch of great looking guys got together about a year and a half ago and all decided to grow their hair out! Vive la France!
Viva (Er -- how do you say "longhair" in French)
You say "Cheveux longs".
Merci boucoup messieur Denis C.
VIVA CHEVEUX LONGS!
CHEVEUX LONGS LIBRE!
Au revoir
Charles
I just saw a Propecia commercial on TV today which showed the short-haired and thinning subject of the commercial glancing with obvious pangs of jealousy at a guy with a shoulder-length mane that was flowing in the wind. An obvious change from the non-thinning short hair that I have always remembered seeing.
