Is washing your hair only once a week good for it? This is not my plan, just advice someone with long hair gave me.
Thoughts?
Mac
Sorry for the blank message. . .
I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week, and it's ok.
It all depends on the amount of oil in your hair. For me, about once every 3-4 days is optimum, although I tend to leave it longer than that as I always seem to be too busy.
Well, I do it, and it usually looks fantastic afterwards(especially in comparison to how it looked before it was washed). I don't like to wash my hair too often during the summer, because I like to leave it some natural defenses against the sun, and since oil just doesn't distribute through my hair, horsehair brush or no, I have to leave it extra long or the oil won't get to my roots. Actually, it doesn't usually get past my ears. I'd probably have to leave it unwashed for a month, giving my mom an aneurism in the process.
Be warned though, if your hair is oily, you'll have to disguise it by wearing it up, or you're going to look dreadful.
I can go without washing my hair about 5 to 6 days between each wash, it depends how fast the sebum coats the strands. If I've been doing a lot of exercise, I may need to wash it every 3 days.
Back when I had really short hair, I could go months and months without washing my hair!! Serious, and It never smelt bad either, I never had any bad comments. I never gave my hair a first let alone a second thought, until I had an extreamly awful haircut my my sister. Now I'm very delicate with my hair lol.
Hey Mac, I can go once a week without washing it, but I love washing my hair, and getting out of the shower. I Head Bang after I get out of the shower, and it really has a positive output on my hair hehe. Though don't recomend everybody to do that. Washing hair once a week can be good, but it is best to see if your scalp is getting dry or not. If it is getting dry, then it is time to wash it. Your hair looks great, and in your last post, you said it was curly, I only see slight waves and mostly straight hair. I know washing hair once a week is better than say... Once a year (EEEGGHHHWWWWWWWWW) Well most of us Cherokees have great hair, and you and I are 2 of them :)

I don't think there's anything wrong with the frequency of your washes, as long as you're comfortable and your hair condition is happy too.
Personally I have to wash every day, because I have been cursed when it comes to skin, but there are times I'll go an extra day. Everyones hair is different and so do whatever feels right for you.

I don't think so.
Though now I wash my hair less frequently, a while back
I used to wash my hair almost every day.
Conditioners + other hair products can create lots of build-up
rather quickly. And what does that do?
Well, it can actually make your hair feel like straw and rather 'thick' + dry.
Starting with freshly washed hair can make managing your hair much simpler.
Also, it gets rid of a lot of loose hairs.
Sometimes washing your hair once a week can be an invitation to
tangling and knotting.
And when a whole week goes by with any washing or untangling
you can be in for a real surprise--or even a disaster!
Don't know how good it is for me, but this is what I have been doing for the past year and I see nothing wrong and it is growing great. (I washed my hair more frequently when it was shorter.) And.........when very shorty every day.
I use "Hot Oil," Kids Shampoo and leave-in Conditioner. I let all "Air-dry." Never has a Blow-Dryer been used on my hair. The only "heat" that gets to it is when in the Sun.
Now, if at this point I were to be suddenly covered with soot, naturally I would wash and not wait for a week.
