Hello everyone, I have a question about balding. I know the topic is redundant, But Im more or less looking to see if what I describe is "Normal".
First off, Im 18 yrs old, Ive been growing my hair for about a year and a half or so. Currently it is around 12-13 inches long, and I did get it trimmed slightly about a year ago.
My hair is pretty much exactly like my mothers, mostly straight, and dark brown in color.I have always been told my hair is very thick, likewise, my mother has been told the same. But onto my point, I have always parted my hair right down the center of my head, basicly since ive been able to. Lately ive started worrying that im going to go bald lol (its just the way I am, I always worry about things that i cant control) so ive been paying more attention to my hair and whatnot, it seems like the hair along the part is thinner than elsewhere, it just seems a bit odd to me. Even when I brush my hair straight back and put it into a tail the part remains visible right till the little swirl thing toward the back of my head lol. Im figuring this is partly due to the fact that the frontmost hair on my head doesnt make it straight back to the tail band and as a result just kind of falls to the side? I dont know but its just been bothering me. I would like to take pictures but am unable to for the time being. Would anyone here happen to have pictures of the top of their head with their hair in a pony tail? Strange request probably, but just so i can see if it is just me. Anyhow sorry to ramble on but any input would be greatly appreciated.
Dont worry about that hair has to be alot longer then 12 inches to stay in a slicked back pony tail while dry. Why dont you wear it in a ponytail parted it should stay in at that length?
Hi, if you always part your hair at the same place it´s normal for your hair to stay at that place no matter what you do. With the time your hair even gets trained to being parted in the middle. So you can also see that little scalp stripe on your head even if you do a ponytail.
The same thing happens for me and everything is normal with that. If you want to solve that problem you should part your hair in a different way or you could try using some hair spray, gel or something like that to cover that place having your hair in a ponytail.

Remember that with long hair, the extra weight will pull on your parting and make it seem balder than it really is - it doesn't harm your hair or make you bald in any way.

Sorry I don't have a pic on yet but hope to next week after relatives leave.
The same happens to my hair when brushed straight back. The part "kind-of" automatically wants to seperate and does so all by itself. Perhaps because there is a space there, you think the hair is thinner?
do what i do and switch up the part for a while then switch back, currently i'm wearing my part 2or3 inches off centre. it makes ur hair get used to different styles and it looks better when you switch it up a bit. works for me at least
My husband has had a middle part since he started growing his hair long many years ago. His part is fairly wide, but his hairline has receded less than 1/2 inch in all those years. And he's got quite a few years on you. :-)
Something to keep in mind: Dr. George Michael, world-renown long hair specialist with his chain of long hair salons, believes that long hair is less prone to hair loss than short hair because long hair follicles are stronger than the follicles of short hair. The teensy, tiny muscles that support long hair follicles become stronger because long hair strands require extra support, so that can give you hope.
Something I have observed for several years is that long haired people generally do not have the "100-strands-per-day" fallout that supposedly is the average for everyone. For long hairs, the average seems to be far less.
Parts do tend to become fixtures in hair if you keep the same part for a long time. My husband doesn't have to part his hair, even after washing it. It falls into place after brushing when it's dry. For me, I wear a side part, which just looks better on me, but my parts tend to want to wander all over my head.
Some long hairs don't wear parts at all, or let the hair part whichever way it wants. I prefer more order than that, as odd, angular parts distract me, but to each his/her own.
Dr. Michael actually suggests changing your part periodically and recommends that people wear parts that are slightly off-center. Center parts do tend to spread wider, and changing parts is supposed to help prevent this, but I don't always follow everything Dr. Michael recommends, anyhow. I simply like my side part, so I stick with it.
