Hi everyone, I have some questions about hair:
1. I've read in a post that if your scalp is getting dry, you have to wash it. I thought that washing dries the scalp, because the oil gets away, isn't that true?!
2. My hair is tends to become really dry, is it right to condition every 2 or 3 days and to shampoo just once a week or after a hard sweating?
3. Is it right to massage the scalp very often, in order to make it less dry?
I hope to receive many answers, thanks a lot to everyone!
That is true for oily scalps, like mine. However, for dry scalps (my mother complains about this endlessly; it's amazing that she and I are related!), regular washing with a moisturizing shampoo can help keep your scalp moisturized and healthier. It does seem to be true that dry scalps can get away with fewer washings, but another friend of mine whose skin and scalp are incredibly dry does this: she washes ever few days with very moisturizing shampoo, conditions both hair AND scalp, and after detangling when her hair is still wet, she applies oil to her hair and a bit to her scalp. She never blow-dries.
There are a lot of women who frequent another long hair site who do what is called Conditioner Only washing. I don't follow the routine, as I have an oily scalp, but they absolutely rave about the process and swear that their hair and scalp benefit from it. You could try doing this, or maybe use shampoo once per week, with the remainder CO washing.
Yes, do this, and then brush (with a boar bristle brush) whatever oils are generated thru your hair, after carefully detangling with a comb first. I don't do either (scalp massage or BBB brushing), because my scalp already is oily, and I turn into a grease-head if I do them.
It really is amazing how different the hair care needs are between dry scalps and oily scalps!
