Here is a question. WHat does everyone here do for a living? Which professions have you had, or not had, a hassle while having long hair.
I'll start. The last 8 years I've been a cop, going back to college recently to finish my English degree and will eventually be a high school English teacher.
Mac
Dough boy/Pizza maker/Cook . Saving up for college and possibly getting into something with teaching or art or music. Haven't had any hassle regarding the hair. Infact its pretty leanant vibe through out the resturant.
Nothing right now. I'm only 17 so I get to watch TV all day. Though I must get a job soon.
Well,
I used to do biotech research but was downsized. For now, there's a McJob (customer service/tech support) until I can transition back. Gotta love the downturned economy :-)
What I do for a living is mostly online. I do computer and Gaming programs/scripts, and now have my own domain. I also write novels, poetry, comics, songs, ans short stories. Nothing published yet, and I am also an Abstract Artist and do all art for my comics and games, and everything else. Nothing published in my art either. I am also in a "Struggling" Band for right now which I have founded and do all the songs/Bass/Indian Flute riffs for. My brother is the singer. His true voice is awesome, like 80's Heavy-Metal and can mimic just about any popular Band's voices. As you can see, I am Multi-Talented hehe.
I work for a large software firm. I do facilitation of requirements gathering that lead to primarily to database design, but can facilitate nearly any kind of software artifact.
I've been at this same company for 14 years, the last 3 of them as a longhair. No hassles at all. There are 2 other guys working at my company with hair longer than mine.
I'm a patent agent
I work as a Geologist on a major DOE/Government Project. I also have a side business as a Piano Technician. My long hair adds some character and mystique to both the Musician and the Scientist. For safety; I tuck-fold-tie-cover the hair when working around mining or drilling equipment. Also occasionally I must trim my mustache to wear a respirator. These are safety considerations of my occupation which I accept and not hassles about my hair length. There are many in my trade, from field geologists through management with long hair.
The best job in the world. I grew up in Canada (but we're from the States) where I learned to play hockey. I was a winger. Still play. After college a few years ago I began coaching full time here in Denver (big time hockey town) and also teach English. About once a year, for a semester, I also teach a night class for a nearby junior college. Busy! I guess you could say I have hockey hair, eh? Josh
Hey Cody, I been trying to talk to you on messenger, but either your offline, or I am offline. My Stepdad used to be a Truck Driver, and he might be again, because he is like off and on with the Truck Driving Biz. The Trucks are awesome, and the job pays good, and is a good job for any longhair.

I'm a Web Developer, I've been doing this for the past 3 years. I'm self employed and its the first and only 'real' job I've ever had. So no problems with Hair Issues as I make my own rules.
Sorted
Nothing, still in school doing Advanced levels, only 17. Applying for music college at the end of this year. I think music and long hair is a great mix.
Still living off of the parents! I'm a student in HS, but I also go to acting school. I love to act and i've done plays in my HS as well. I plan on being a full time actor once I graduate.
I am a demographer working for a government agency.

no hassles here- our longhair census varies- currently i'm one of two- the other, a newly hired press operator- upon seeing me commented that he wish he hadn't cut his hair shorter for the interview- apparently he had taken off 6 inches. fortunately my place doesn't make hair length an issue.
I graduated from Michigan State and the University of Ill. School of Public Health and and I am anEnvironmental Engineer with a private Consulting business.
Professional Artist (painter)...
so my long hair fits in nicely,
and has never been a 'problem.'
Currently doing skilled labor (custom doors for building contractors).
I am finishing up my bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and shooting for working on control systems.
That "Ball" Guy
Hi,
I'm not a "longhair" yet but my desire to become one has come from the head of our department at work. I work as a PC Help Desk Technician for our county's public libraries. Most of my time is spent at the administrative building with the two other long-haired guys in the department. However, some of the problems require an on-site visit to the libraries and interaction with staff and sometimes the public.
This leads me to my question...are public libraries generally "good" places for longhairs or are they "bad" places? None of the staff had a problem with me wearing an earring to work. I'd think you'd have a lot of "open minds" at the library. The head of our department recently took a temporary position as a manager at one of the libraries, and also cut off his ponytail. I am hoping that it was just a coincidence.
What do you think?
Rick
The Fairfax County libraries are certainly good. One day I was there and the guy at the help desk had straight mid-back hair that was... here's the kicker: hot pink. You just don't forget an image like that.
I seem to vaguely recall some other longhairs there too, but none of them stick out my mind because of that one guy.
