Hey guys. I recently decided to grow my hair long, well about a month ago. I dont know if any of you can watch Big Brother in UK but theres a guy, Stu, and he has the best long hair i have ever seen. Its amazing. However my hair takes a long time to grow and i really wanted fairly longish hair by time i emmigrate to australia in 3 months time...... Does any one have any tips or hints to speed up the growth? ive seen products online with vitamins to help, do they actually work? cheers. Richi.
There is nothing you can do to increase the speed of growth of hair. Hair grows at an average rate of 1/2 inch per month. Period.
Well, some people do grow a hair faster (no pun intended) than 1/2 inch per month, but that's beside the point.
I think what people are experiencing is reaching the maximum genetic growth rate, be it through better diet, vitamins, excercise yada yada.
No one is going to speed past their genetic rate however, not in my experience anyway.
Some people have noticed faster growing when dangling their heads over their beds for one minute before going to sleep every night. Something to do with more blood going to the scalp.
I hope your being sarcastic, I posted something like this ages ago but I was joking of course. Actually there may be one thing which could theoretically increase hair growth but its unadvisable - that being topically applied tretinoin (retina)possibly isotretinoin (accutane) would have the same effect also. Retin-a is prescribed in conjection with proprecia, however this is for bald/ing people so people with hair would likely not benefit... just an idea, tho you'd get terrible dry scalp so you couldnt realistically use it (plus its not in scalp application bottle!!), and your hair would go dry and nasty due to the loss in sebum production so its a no on retina. Retinol (vit a) is a similar thing I guess, maybe increasing your intake of vit a would help w/o bad side effects, retinoids increase cell turnover rate in skin especially this could possibly translate to the hair follicle, this wouldnt dry out your scalp badly, and would also improve your skin if you suffer with acne.
Taking vitamins otherwise would most likely not do much for your hair growth speed unless your otherwise lacking which is stunting your growth. Adequate protien in diet is also important as the body uses it for most important things first before hair growth etc, also essential amino acids like tyrosine- used to create melanin to colour your hair, are all needed for hair growth i guess.
Where I mention vit a, its toxic if you go way over the RDA.
Some say no, some say yes, Im in the latter category because Ive seen this with my own hair. Hair and nails are made of the same thing, so when you take the right vitamins and see your nails grow faster then it makes sense that same thing would happen to your hair. At least thats what Ive noticed, the thing is that hair always grows slower then nails so even sped up the change isnt going to be obvious right away. try them and see for yourself. But most importantly be patient.
Yes, Stuart does have really cool hair.
