Yep, I'm starting to get negative comments from people. I was at work on my break and a girl I work with asked me if the hair in my eyes bothers me. I said not really, to which she replies "you should cut it." Just out of curiosity, I asked her how short. She said "I dunno, like normal guys."
I guess some people just don't appreciate individuality.
Don't worry about it. There's plenty of girls who love long hair.
I know that feeling's like being kicked in the stomach, just pick yourself up and show her you're superior to her(not in a sexist way), you could have shown her you were disgusted with that comment.
And anwya, she was probably jelous, how long is your hair anyway?
Take a look around at how great 'normal guys' are in general. Need I say more?
And just how long was HER hair?
Just out of curiosity, I asked her how short. She said "I dunno, like normal guys."
The term "NORMAL" as far as I know has yet to be defined.
I guess some people should just learn to mind their own business.
Would that imply that you look 'un normal'?
Not to sound big-headed but in my experience this kinda reaction generally quickly turns into envy within about 4-6 months.
Sorted
Next time someone asks you if the hair in my eyes bothers you, say, No I love it actually. Doubt you'll get a nasty reply.
Carrying on, if she or any other woman says You should cut it, reply with "Why"?
If she saids because it gets in your eyes, then say "but I love it!" Try it next time.
Realize that with a comment like that she shows that her reality and understanding of the world consists of a tiny fraction of what is actually out there.
Smile with this in mind and continue with what you are doing.
I guess she should limit her choices to plain vanilla ice cream, while us ordinary people can enjoy hundreds of flavors of cake and ice cream.

You should have asked her to define what is a "normal guy"...
I have got many negative comments in my 25+ years of being a longhair and now I am pretty immune against them. I ignore them in most cases. You will get immune too eventually.
BTW The most frequent comment in my case is being called a "mountain man".

I almost never get negative comments. People almost never comment on my hair one way or the other, but I do get noticed! I tend to get chatted up in a crowd where others are being passed by. It is often from other longhairs or wannabe longhairs, but also also often not. If people comment on my appearance it is usually about my shirt or my bandanna, or that I look like a certain celebrity. My hair itself, as I said, is seldom mentioned.
Last night I was with three shorthaired friends. We were waiting to take a ferry boat. There was a big crowd waiting on the dock for it - more than was going to fit in the boat. A longhair came walking down the dock and we greeted each other with the usual "How's it goin'" as he passed by. He paused, said he was going across the channel in his boat, and asked if we would like to ride across it with him. You bet! It was fun getting to meet him. The guy also offered us a smoke, and it wasn't tobacco. [grin] I don't smoke myself, but I sure get a lot of offers!
We had a very relaxing ride across the channel and met a new friend, while everyone else jostled for a spot on a crowded noisy boat.
Life is good. Life with long hair is even better.

The most benign comment (should I take it as a compliment?) is to be compared with Jesus (though I doubt he ever had a beer belly...). Sometimes women compliment me for my hair, and my wife was initially attracted by it - it was a picture posted on a Yahoo profile that stared it all...
Right!

Hey Bill, just curious, what celebrities are you compared to?

Most often, Willie Nelson. Second, Jerry Garcia.
When I had short or "normal" length hair, I sometimes got negative comments. When I had somewhat long hair (awkward stage) I got a lot more negative comments, especially when I let my hair fall into my face. When my hair got long enough to tie into a pony tail, I got fewer (still get fewer) negative comments than when my hair was short.
I feel your pain. For several months I had my picture on www.hotornot.com, just curious to see if I was "hot" or not. My picture with short hair scored a 9 on the scale of 1 to 10. I recently posted a picture of myself with my hair growing out, and my score went from a 9 to a 6. I guess the bad-hair phase I'm in is not "hot", lol

I actually did the same thing, and while mine went down somewhat it wasn't as drastic as yours. From 8.5 to 7.7.
I personally think that I look a lot better in the picture with the longer hair...
The poll may not show something going on beneath the numbers. If you had average or boring hair, maybe one or two votes may say a high (good) number. But if you have long hair, maybe 30 votes say "good" and 50 say "bad" bringing the average down. But think of it this way, your "good" votes go from 1 or 2 to 30 if you grow long hair long!
Hair tends to look like cr*p when you are growing it out. A lot of people respond to that by saying you should cut it, but if everyone followed that advice no-one would ever grow their hair out. With a girl it might work if you specifically tell her that you are growing it out. Or not, in which case just ignore what she says.
