Hi I posted here before.
I have been growing since Sept 2003, so to celebrate approaching the year mark i done a little web page.
Comments please.
Do you see any split ends etc. Plus I was reading in some magazines that even if your desperate to grow your hair long you need to get a little trim every 7-8 months. So I was maybe thinking of going to get a LITTLE trim (specifying only split ends and a clean up), do you think I should do this.
the page is:

Also how long do you think it would be until I could tie most of my hair back, Im hoping that by about October I could tie it back with the bangs push behind my ears because I really want to be able to tie it back for the christmas period (which would be about 14 months).
You've got excellent hair. It is shiny and it looks like you've been taking good care of it. You are well into the awkward stage. I think you have a good idea with the hair bands. The partial ponytail looks very good, probably because your hair is so thick. I don't see any obvious damage and I don't think you need a trim unless it will make *you* feel better. I wouldn't take magazine advice too seriously. The article was probably written by a stylist! During the awkward stage the shape of your hair is going to look a little odd. The best solution is to let it grow. As for a full ponytail, your bangs (fringe/frontal hair) have to reach into the ponytail for them to stay. See if you can measure the distance you have left. Thanks for the update!
Hi Chris
The photos you supplied are pretty good resolution, I see no evidence of split ends, what I see is just a little "fluffiness" from growing out. A little trim would probably not make much of a long term difference to your hair. Cos it'll back to where it was before the trim inside of 2 months. There doesn't seem to be any reason to trim because of damage, only maybe for "neatness". With this in mind, if you do get a trim, then get nothing cut off the top. That can wait until its longer, just maybe get 1/2 inch off the back and sides. But Like I say, theres no reason to trim because of split ends, I can't see any!
As for your question about a full tail it took me about 16 months before I could tie a relatively safe tail, still though at almost 18 months my bangs still fall loose unless I'm careful.
Sorted.
Based on my expereinces, do not get a trim. I decided to start growing my hair out a year ago, and have been getting the "ends snipped" every 4 months. I think my hair would have been a LOT longer if I would of just let it go. I would not get a trim until your hair is the length you want it, and then, only cut the ends to maintain the length, otherwise your in for a much longer haul.

You hair is looking really good for your growth level, and I dont see any signs of splits.
When I grew mine long previously, I ran into split ends somewhere between 2 and 3 years. I trimmed about a 1/4 inch to get them under control, then every three months or so I would have just the tips clipped off, a small immeasurable amount (I had a very trusted friend who was also a stylist for this, othewise I would not recommend it)
I think you're doing fine, don't worry much about the ends, just keep an eye on them.
Awesome
