Hi,
I don't know why I didn't ever seek out this information before, but could somebody advise or link me to sites explaining the different ways hair is worn (particularly by men) when it is shorter and when it is longer. Also, ones for curly hair would be helpful for me. I think it's finally time I learn what it means when someone has a [hairstyle name].
Thanks,
Rick
Er - OK:
Buzzed (or Buzz cut) - Shaved Head, normally acheived by using hair clippers, at different grades (lengths) #1= 1/8 inch #2 = 1/4 inch #3 1/2 inch etc.
Short Hair - Highly subjective, usually though its considered short if the bangs (fringe) are cut above the eyes and the rest of the hair on top is a similiar length, Ears & back very short.
Mid Length - Several Inches of length, between eyes & chin varied bunch of styles. (See my profile pic - its "mid length" bordering "long")
Mullet - Short on top and at the sides, long at the back.
(Think Wrestlers in the 90's Or look at Blais in the User Directory.)
A Bob - Hair is cut to one length somewhere between chin length and shoulder length, (think the classic Page Boy Look.)
Shaggy Cut/Look - Varied bunch of styles between short & mid length generally little or no effort is made to taper in the back or sides, think 90's BritPop Acts, Oasis, The Verve etc. This look is typical if you grow out from a buzz cut with no trims.
long Hair - Again Highly subjective, generally accepted as shoulder length or longer, but its relative to your point of view.
Pony Tail - Er self explanatory long hair tied into a tail.
Half Tail - Pony tail where only the top most layers of hair above the ears are gathered into the tail, the rest hangs loose. (Think Legolas in LOTR on his half tail was braided.)
Dreadlocks - Think Bob Marley, need I say more?
Is this what you wanted or I am teaching you to suck eggs? Hope Not :D
You'll probably get better ideas by browsing galleries on Salon Web Sites, most stylists will describe the look and give it a name.
Sorted
That was pretty basic but it was what I was looking for--thanks! Can you recommend any good web sites?
Yeah this one... if you find a style, post a pic, someone will explain what it is... there are few stylists amongst our midst.
As for finding pictures, search for "Hair Salons in " on Google and you'll get a list full of pictures. Or browse celebrity sites, Yahoo Actors Profiles normally is a great source of style inspiration.
