"...a giant leap for Mankind"
On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong was the first Earthling to set foot on the Moon.
I was 14 at that time and I was in a summer camp on the Black Sea coast. The camp leadership didn't allow us to watch the live broadcast from the Moon (it was after midnight local time) so that I had to jump the fence and go to a nearby restaurant to watch the first moonwalk on their TV. I can still remember it as if it was yesterday...

I was nine at the time. I went over to my friend's house across the street. It was the residence for the Kuwait embassy. They had a "color" television, which was a big deal to us then. They also had central air conditioning another unheard of luxury. I remember it being a real hot day in DC. Both the air conditioning and the color TV seemed new and special to me.
I remember tingling all over the moment Armstrong stepped off the LM. I knew instinctually that this was a really, really big deal. Funny, after 35 years, it still seems too incredible to believe. In just 66 years after the Wright brothers took the first flight, we landed on the moon. Still one of the greatest accomplishments ever.
Thanks for reminding me about it!
You know What I think is the real shame with the moon landing. That we never went father than the moon.
I vividly remember watching it on TV at the time. It was
after I had started to grow my hair long. I had startd growing my hair long in 1964 when the Beatles started hiitting it big.
Has it really been 35 years? Wow do I feel old.
Of course about the same time I remember watching TV and
seeing this senator on TV talking about some accident
where he drove off a bridge. (Ted Kennedy).
Here it is 35 years later, my hair is still long,
we haven't been to the moon in years, and Ted Kennedy is
still in the senate.
