Hi, I am 15, almost 16, and I have found my hair to be, how can I put this? EVERYWHERE! It sort of "fluffs" out, in the back, the front the sides, I have tried brushing it out, but that only makes it worse sometimes. It is about 5-6 inches front and sides, and 6-7 in the back. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, maybe a straigtener, or some kind of shampoo/conditioner?
It is also very hard to continue growing it out, I have recieved many complaints about it from people, and have been rejected from signing up for cross country (they require short hair on men), not to mention my family complaining about it. Therefore, I have chosed to live as the Nazirites lived in Biblical times, they were people that were so dedicated to God, that they grew their hair out to show from the outside, their dedication.
Any help would be appriciated.
Hey
I'm 17 so I'm near your age.
...and I have found my hair to be, how can I put this? EVERYWHERE! It sort of "fluffs" out, in the back, the front the sides, I have tried brushing it out, but that only makes it worse sometimes. Sounds like we're both at the same length, maybe my hair is slightly shorter at the back. This is called the awkward stage, and it can last a long time. It can be absolute hellish on some days I know. It'll probably last another 7 to 8 months until you're able to put it in a tail.
A straightener can make your hair much flatter, but you MUST use a heat treat before you straighten, otherwise you'll fry your hair. Even If you can't feel the damage afterwards, it's definately been damaged. Also, when applying a heat treat, sometimes It can make your hair look a bit too shiny, even greasy looking, and that doesn't look good. So I wouldn't bother. I use a straightener, ceramic plated, once every few months in between, but I would prefer to ditch it alltogether.#
What kind of brush are you using? If it's a boar bristle one, it's probably making your hair puff out a lot. Try using a plastic brush with small round plastic blobs at the end of the bristles. With shampoo's, Sunsilk shampoo sort of works. But if you just want it flat, don't was your hair for a few days and let your scalp oils do the trick at weighing down your hair.
As your hair grows longer, the extra weight will definately ease the bigness of it. Just ride it out, don't do anything foolish.
Dude, stop listening to other people for now. You really need to forget and ignore these comments and concentrate on longer hair. I bet as soon as you're able to put all your hair into a ponytail, the bad comments will all stop. And even before then, the girls might start to be facinated with your hair. Are you on summer holidays now, has school broken up? If it has, concentrate for the next 6 weeks (that's how long I have anyway) on growing your hair long.
Good luck!
Thanks, for the replies people.
And "ball" guy, For now I'm sticking with the hair, and using it as an ecuse if anyone says otherwise, say like maybe getting a job. After all, I too like grapes.
I think I have found another way to make it less messy: Just after showering, I brush my hair out with a soft flat brush, and continue until it is dried, it is a pretty effective technique, but I still have trouble with the hair on top to sort of "raise" instead of being flat on my scalp. I was also thinking about using Aussie moist, I have heard this product makes it less dry.
Just out of curiosty are you going the *full* Nazarite vow? It restricts more things than just hair cutting. Beard cutting, no unclean food (kosher diet) Touching no unclean dead thing, no eating grapes, grape skins, grape seeds, or drink made from grapes.
I actually considered it for a while but I like grapes too much ;)
Good luck through the akward stage! Just tough it out, it will get longer.
That "Ball" Guy
Sounds normal for one in the "Awkward Stage." This is when guys give-up so often. Glad you are going to stick it out. All WILL calm down and fall into place quite well given enough time.
You might want to experiment and try the following. No "Straightener" is needed (at least in my case) as this seems to do it all.
Use "Hot Oil" 1st. (Leave in 1 min. and wash out.)
Shampoo using Kids Shampoo.
When about 3/4 dry get some Aussie Leave-in Conditioner in your hair.............in particular have the greater amount of it at the ends of your hair. All of this gives you some added weight probably equal to another 4" or so of hair.
Thanks I'll have to try that. Would that also fix the problem of the hair fluffing out to the sides, and such?
Alas, if only I could see it..........but I will put myself out on a limb and say YES! A great differance WILL be noticed within the 1st hour of letting the hair "air dry." It will feel better than you have ever felt it before. By the 3rd day if it "Fluffs-out" a bit too much just use some more "leave-in Conditioner." I don't think there is anyway out of the "Fluff-Out" stage 100% until the hair gets long enough.
Anyway, there is absolutely no harm in trying my method at least once. Everyone has different hair-types so different results will occur. I really fail to see how you cannot be anything but happy with the results however. Let me know what you think.
all the best
You're definately in the middle of an akward stage where the hair kinda starts acting up and difficult to control. In a few months you'll be outta that phase and your hair will be more under controll.
