It looks like the sect is still around, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Their vow to forego haircuts may interest a lot of the guys on here. Their vow to forego sex may not. [grin]

How has a sect managed to stay around since the 1600s if they vowed to forego sex? It must be rather difficult to keep recruiting new members.
Maybe their like the Catholic Monks at the school I went to in England: the vows got forgotten after a few years and the college Matron became the ob ject of much affection. (We won't go into what happend the pupils all boys aged 5-18.)
I guess its easier to hide having had sex than it is to hide having gotten a hair cut. (Am I just the biggest skeptic or what?)

Could this be due to the fact that they all wore their hair in braids?
Or might their be some other explanation?!
What disturbs me is the fact that the cult leader deflowered their fiancees before they got married. IMHO, that makes the guys look like real chumps even if they broke their vows of celibacy later. Gullible cult followers who missed out on real joy because they got brainwashed... not the image of longhaired men that I really want to propogate.
