I've been growing my hair for 25 months now. I'll admit I've been *combing* my hair all this time. I have a wide-tooth detangling comb, of course, but for the finishing touch on my hair I've been using the same nylon comb I used on my short hair. A few weeks ago a young lady *brushed* my hair in preparation for braiding it. The brushing made my hair look great so I set out to get a brush. The kind that is recommended amongst long-haired ladies is a boar bristle brush (BBB) rather than the more common metal-spike-with-plastic-knobs brush. Today I finally located a BBB. The improvement it made in the look of my hair is astonishing. I have straight, 'medium-fine' hair. Today I washed my hair and started out with terrible frizz. After I used my new brush the frizz was gone and all the fly-a-ways were smoothed down. I think the brush is much better at distributing hair oil (in this case leave-in conditioner). Furthermore, I now suspect that the nylon comb was generating a lot of static (electricity) in my hair (I had thought wetting it before use would eliminate this problem). Finally, the brush makes my hair very smooth and without the parallel tracks from the comb. I am very happy with my discovery. I just can't believe it has taken me this long to switch to brushing my hair!
If you have a problem with frizz and fly-a-ways I suggest you test out a brush. It might work as well for you as it did for me.
Ive been meaning to try a BBB brush do they clearly mark on the package that they are BBB brushes?
Definitely, it's a selling point. It will never say "BBB", though, it's "Boar Bristle Brush".
I need to get me a BBB too.
Gollan,
Did you get a BBB for 'fine hair'? I noticed that the brushes are made for certain hair types.
(I have one too and they are great as a finishing touch and don't generate the static)
The brush was not marked for any particular hair type. I mentioned my hair type because I really don't know if it will work as well for curly hair or thick hair.
If I may interject, I have very fine hair and do not use BBBs. But I have an oily scalp anyway, with no desire to increase the oil by stimulating the scalp to produce more, LOL. I do find that BBBs cause both tangles and static.

I've been using one for a few months now, often in conjunction with jojoba oil. It produces the smoothest texture I've ever had in my hair, and is great for distributing the oil. Plus, it tends to hold the oil, so you can give a light touch up just by brushing, and not reaching for the oil bottle again.
