OK maybe I'm beingmelodramatic. But I was really gutted this morning when I caught a tangle in my hair where about 15 strands had physically knotted together about 4 cm from the tips.
I couldn't unpick the tangle and I had to cut out the knot, cos I kept snagging it with my comb and breaking the hair at the point of the knot.
This is first time this has ever happened to me so I was really annoyed I had to resort to cutting it out. So tonight I'm in mourning for what has been the largest length of hair I have cut in over 2 years.
OK - I'll get over it... just feeling annoyed with myself for not detangling more carefully and causing the knot in the first place. :-(

15 hairs is about 10% to 20% of what you lose in one day anyway.
Just be carefull. I try to detangle my hair with my fingers - and you shold see tangles in my curly, 20+" long hair, after a hike on a windy day, they take one hour or more to sort out... If it's too tough, then I wash it and continue detangling it after it dries.
A Linux Longhair
I guess I'm Lucky then really... 10 mins detangling is enough to irritate the hell outta me! I really couldn't hack it if this was an everyday occurance...
Ahh, it happens.
My only detangling is the days that I condition, and I gently pull knotted chunks apart. It's much easier for me in the shower.
That is a bummer though, and at least it wasn't all of your hair being trimmed that much!
nothing to be overly alarmed about The back neck area of my hair gets tangles like that all the time and I have had to resort to cutting a few times as well. Most the time with a little pain and some work I can get them out there the most annoying part of long hair imo.
Years ago, with hair probably halfway down my back, I went water skiing with my friend and his family (he was also a long hair). After skiing we spent the afternoon cruising the lake in the boat, good speeds, lots of wind, lots of time for our hair to dry and tangle up. We were freakin', must have spent two hours untangling, even had to untangle the hair in back for each other, probably looking like a couple of monkeys grooming each other!
Same thing happened to me not long ago.
As your hair gets longer, you could get into LOTS of real trouble
if you are not extra careful.
It might be a good idea to gently comb out your hair with your fingers only
before going to bed.
Then make a tail with a couple of hair bands (in segments)
to prevent your hair from moving around too much.
Melting gel is a great detangler and can keep your hairs separated
when you add just a bit to dry or damp hair.
NO WAY SORTED!
I really hear you on something like this. Long Hair to us who love it is Sacred. Something like this is a terrible attack and loss that only a Long Hair could possibly understand.
I am sure you tried everything before being forced to cut..........and doing that is a KILLER! There is plenty more long hair left, true............but still, I know where you are coming from and the feeling inside. Funny, but it is VERY DEPRESSING.
A few months ago (Before discovering the "Hot Oil,") I too was on the verge of having to cut. Luckily I somehow detangled only losing a few hairs that snapped. Whew! (And even that to myself was a blow.)
But...........the worst for me was the 1st time I ever tried "Cleaning-up my neck" of unwanted hair such as Gollan does. A great chunk of my Ponytail was suddenly severed. I stood still almost in a state of shock. It was terrible.
But, with time one gets over it and the loss that when 1st happenning is seen in restropect just a "slight dissaster."
Sorry this happened to you. Your hair is just so fabulous!
Justin~
Did you shave your kneck upwards or downwards because
upwards is the safest way to avoid making 'mistakes.'
Neck . ..not 'kneck'. ..he..he...
Unfortunately downwards. (And I have still been doing so.) Yikes!
BUT NOW............, I'll do it the correct way! :-)
I cannot thank you enough for posting this little tip Luckskind.
All the best-
Justin~
Sorted,
First off I like the picture of you looking like "Cousin IT"
So in your picture post of looking like "Cousin IT" with it all combed down over your face. Since you had to cut 4 cm are your BANGS now uneven? When you comb them down? If so hopefully not has bad as the other guy.. But I did a conversion for 4cm and that would convert to almost 2 inches..
Keep it growing.

Thanks, I was really just showing off... *grin*
No... I only had to cut our a small knot which equated to about 15 strands of hair. This really doesn't make that much difference to the head of hair. Whats more the hair I had to cut was several layers down so I doubt I could even find the hair again, it certainly doesn't look uneven as a result. But thanks for your concern.
