Does anyone know of a good salon in the Richmond, VA area? I looked up on George Michael on the web and it listed Gladys C. at Upstage hairdesigners in Richmond as a long hair specialist. I want to call and make an appt. but I first want to make sure this is a reliable place and I don't go in there and they say my hair is more damaged than it is and they have to cut out the tangled parts and cut 3 or 4 inches off. I don't want that. I haven/t had a trim in two years and I need one, but I 'm hoping and praying nothing will go wrong at it won't be an awkward experience.
Thanks for your help!

Anyone listed on the George Michael website should be reliable. If money isn't an issue, maybe you should schedule a deep treatment of some sort first, rather than a trim. Then you can discuss and get a feel for the stylist without committing your self to the scissors.
The best way to get a trim which is exactly what you want is to be extraordinarily specific. Tell the stylist exactly how much you want taken off, hold up the ends of your hair and show with your thumb and forefinger where to cut, and say it's ok to leave some damage, and that you can get it trimmed off next time as your fear of trimming improves. Tell them the length you want trimmed is the MAXIMUM you want taken off, not the minimum. Etc.
Good luck.
VERY Good Advice...
What exactly is a deep treatment? I might try that with a hairdresser that another guy recommended to me. The guy who recommended her is actually an employee at a hair product/beauty supply store WITH long hair, so I was glad to get a recommendation from what should be a safe source. However, this deep treatment might be a good idea first.
But, I won't be getting a trim no matter what for around 6-12 months, I'm just thinking ahead :)
They apply a really heavy conditioner, sometimes just an oil, and then use gentle heat to help it penetrate into the hair shaft as much as possible. After they wash it out, the hair should be in much better condition.
