Hey guys, I just found a great thing out from my mother and father.
I was curious to find out when my hair would start to turn gray, and was there any family traits of early graying. I asked my mother, as my father and mother are divorced, was my father's hair gray when she left him and I was born, he was 48 years old at the time. She thought for a while, and replied with "No"
I said, surely he must have had some Salt n' Pepper, but she said no, he still maintained light brown hair, and he's never used hair dyes in his life. I imagined the average age to begin to turn gray was something like 45, but he was 48 and still had no grays. I'm not sure when he started graying, but it was in his 50's at least. Also, my Mother didn't start to go gray until she was 51 as well. There's no MPB in my family, and my grandfather on my mother's side was able to keep his natural hair colour until his middle 60's!!! And my hair grows at nearly 1 inch a month. Sounds like I have the perfect genes for growing out hair :P
Now the upsetting part, why didn't I grow it out earlier lol!
Well, then, that's a good clue as to when you might begin the graying process.
But remember, if you put yourself under great emotional stress
all your life...or if you abuse you body by not eating properly, etc.,
you good see graing much earlier.
That reminds me of a story I heard from a friend: she was
visiting someone in a nursing home and say this woman who was
in her 80s...and her hair was naturally dark brown.
She asked the nurse if the old woman dyed her hair, and the nurse
told her:'No! It's her natural color." In fact, the woman's entire
family had seemed to have no gray-haired people in it!
Great news Surferdude!
Most likely the grey won't "attack" you until at least your late 40's, or with better luck perhaps 100!!! lol
All genetic..............but perhaps inside awaits a "surprise" in those genes? Perhaps try and find out from both sides of the family what your Grandparents and their Parents as well as children ended up with and when. With luck..........no gray sneeked its way into the whole picture. Then you will know that you are really safe almost for sure.
Hey, perhaps you might have an answer for this one? When I STUPIDLY got a short Haircut 2 Summers ago I was AMAZED to see the beginnings of "Salt and Pepper." But now at 13-1/2" length all looks pretty dark brown to me and the "salt" seems to have almost gone away. Doesn't make sense in the aging process.......but hey, I'm not complaining. Any ideas why?
Hope you have a nice weekend.

Preety cool huh, I'm still very happy about it.
100's! That would be cool to some extent, except I always wanted long white hair, like Gandalf's wig in LOTR.
Yea, all's real cool.
OMG! Thats awesome news for you. I think as your hair was very short, the Salt n' pepper look was far more obvious, but by growing it long, the thicker hair hides any imperfections and your normal colour can be seen. Another way I think of it is: Thousands of years ago, when men had long hair, the only ones who didn't were likely to be struck down by an illness, and so they were clearly labeled as bad partners to mate with. (Possibly poisoning, mpb, or scalp infection caused hair to fall out) So it was all part of natural selection. Gray signified old, and another mate would most likely choose a younger person to mate with instead. But by having nothing wrong with you, which meant long colourful hair, you could keep the graying at bay, therefore attracting more potential mates. Of course, there would be some ill people who did not lose their hair, but it's a fairly good indicator, what do you think?
Thanks man.
Odd because I have experienced exactly the SAME THING!
I had more 'gray' hairs 2 years ago than I do now!
for letting me know of your own experience. So, there MUST be others who have had the same thing happen to them. Since Childhood, my hair has been in constant changement of colour. Almost white to start off with, then Blond later turning to light brown turning eventually with the passage of time the darkest of dark brown. (Almost black.) Did your hair do something like this also? Hope your day is going well.

Dont worry about going gray, worrying could actually increase its onset. I cant even remember my dad having colour in his hair, but that doesnt necessarily mean I'll go gray in my 30's (hopefully). Anyways gray hair can actually look good if you look after it properly, plus you have the option of experimenting with low lights like george clooney (at least it looks like he has them). Gray hair tend to only look nasty cos of mineral deposits in ur water. If you use a de-brassing shampoo like avede blue malva you could get shinning silver locks which sounds cool I think anyway.
