Yeah, I usually wash my hair in the mornings, but I'm sick of waiting for it to dry so I can "start my day" without being annoyed, so I figured I'd wash it at night now. The only problem is that I know if you sleep a certain way with wet hair, it can turn out looking pretty brutal. Do any of you guys have any tips for sleeping with wet hair so as to let it dry easily without any major problems?
I know what you mean, I tried sleeping with damp hair several times and I woke up with such bad tangles that I had to wet & condition my hair the next morning just to get a comb through.
To avoid the tangles I tired tying my hair into a single braid, the problem was only the hair that was exposed to the air dried, the "inside" parts of the braid were still wet the next morning. That was no good either. The best results I found were from a segmented ponytail.
But I gave up on the notion of night time washes for the forseable future, as my hair is still short enough to be awkward, so my hair looks best if I wash/wet & dry it in the mornings rather than letting it go wild as I sleep.
Sorted
When I have to go out and my hair is still wet I put it in a bee-butt bun. It looks fine and when I remove the bun later the hair is always still damp and nicely moisturized. The wet bun also leaves my hair with nice waves. If I was going to sleep with damp hair I would put it in a bun on top of my head for the same effect.
Hi Michael
I used to sleep with wet hair and found that tying it in a pony worked best for me. The only thing with doing that is you end up with a wave effect that runs all the way across the back of your hair. I personally quite liked this effect.
I also found that the quality of my hair the next morning was also heavily dependent on whether I had a good or bad night's sleep - usually if I sleep well my hair looked bad, and likewise if I slept bad, my hair looked good. No, I don't understand it either.
Because of it's length now (a similar length to yours) I have to blow dry it because it will still be wet when I wake up in the morning and look minging.
Ive had nothing but problems attempting to sleep with damp of wet hair. I just make time a few hours before I go to sleep to wash my hair or on my days off anytime in the day.
If I wash my hair before going to bed, I try and stay up as long as possible to let gravity dry my hair downwards. But if it's still wet, I just put a light cotton hat on and sleep. But with your hair length Michael, that's never going to work!
Put a clean towel on the pillow for the first half hour or so. It will move itself off if youre too tired to stay awake. It does two things:
a) drys out your hair faster
b) keeps the pillow from becoming all danky (it will in about a month...)
Its gonna look scrunchy the next day. Thats a style though.
