I'm always checking out dudes with longer hair, how they wear it, things like that. It's a "fetish" I'm told. So here's my question: how far do you guys go with this before it's really out of hand--or don't you? And is it a bad or "abnormal" thing? Just curious. I have a couple friends who are asking, prodding me actually, and I want to be sure I have things straightened out in my mind before I respond to them. Josh
A lot of people use the word fetish about something that somebody else is interested in when they are not.
Whether or not you really have a fetish, or just a very strong interest, I can't tell from here: you may not even know yourself.
Almost evervybody on this board is very interested in hair, theirs and other peoples'. NOthing wrong with that. Some of us, me included, just have to grow our hair in order to keep sane (that's an exaggeration, but we would be permanently frustrated if we didnt grow our hair). Looking at other peoples' hair is part of that.
So long as a strong interest doesn't become a dangerous obsession (it would if you constantly pestered people about their hair, for instance, or stalked people in order to look at them) there's nothing wrong with being very interested in hair.
Enjoy it - and learn from people here from every stage from beginners to experts.
That's not a fetish. Fetish is when you fantasize obsessively about long hair on people you may never have met.
You just have an appreciation for long hair.
Tell your buddies to mind their own business.
"Fetish" is one of the most abused and misunderstood words. In reality, almost all male sexuality is based on fetishes. It may be a face fetish, a leg fetish, or yeah, a hair fetish. People tend to apply the word "fetish" to what OTHER PEOPLE have, though, just like they say "other people" speak with an accent. But truthfully, any man with speech has an accent, and any man with a sexuality has a fetish. So enjoy yours. [grin]
Now, if you're not gay ("checking out dudes" implies that), then "fetish" is really not the right word. In that case, what you've got is "an interest". People with no interests are excessively dull. Be glad you're not dull.
If you think about nothing else night and day, be it a fetish or an interest, then you have "an obsession". There are shrinks who can help you with that. [grin] But your friend just said you have a fetish. Nothin' wrong with that!
All of us here have an interest in long hair, or we wouldn't be here....
Bill
Oh dear - I said just that in a post below. My liberalism slipped !
Ahhhhh, finally, now here's something I can talk knowledgeably about: checking out guys. And naaaaah, looking or even admiring is not a fetish (except voyeurism), it's merely interest. Sort of like a banker admiring a very well balanced balance sheet, it's probably not sexual.
And I don't think fetishes are bad. It is 'abnormal' only in the sense that it might be relatively statistically rare in cases as in eyeball fetishes, pedophilia, necrophelia and other such paraphelias. Some fetishes are much more common like foot, masochistic, sadistic, the list goes on.
As for myself, I don't even check out guys with long hair most of the time... Like, I might look, but probably not twice mostly because most guys that I see who have long hair really aren't my type. They usually have the scruffy/rough/homeless look AND facial hair.
Love,
Kiat T.
I'd agree that it sounds more like an interest. Some people just prefer a certain aspect when it comes to being attracted to someone. I love lots of things - hair, eyes, lips, neck, bum, legs, breasts... some people have stronger feelings towards a single aspect, which is what it seems you're feeling.
Nothing wrong with it whatsoever. You like what you like - go with it :)

I think there is a progression from interest, to fetish, to obsession, with hair or anything else. Certainly all of us on the board are interested in hair, possibly to the point of fetish or obsession, either of which could be sexual or not in nature.
I am always checking out hair, on both men and women, although it is not at all sexual or fetish in nature. Long hair definately helps to attract me to a woman, but it is not necessary, and vice versa, it does not necessarily make a woman appear attractive to me. I have admired the hair of many women and men without being attracted to them.
I've had a similar thought in regard to people's bodies. I'm a big fitness buff, amateur bodybuilder, and since that is something I'm into, I tend to notice a lot about people's bodies. I've been know to admire or make comments about peoples bodies, both sexes, although I'm not at all attracted. A an anology I've used to explain my thoughts to people is to cars (I'm big into hot rods, especially Mustangs and Fords). I may comment on the nice bodywork or paint on a Camaro, but I still don't like Camaros, just admiring the craftsmanship on one.
Anyway, back to your question. I don't think it's abnormal or bad at all, you're into hair so it's perfectly natural to notice it on others. Is it a fetish? From what you've said, I don't think so, but even if it was, it wouldnt be a bad thing. As Bill said, we all have our fetishes.
I also check out guys with face hair as I like furry faces
and if a guy has long hair and a big beard and is wearing biboveralls I tend to stare a lot as I am atracted to those things so if a guy has all 3 I look at him a bit more

If it in fact be a "fetish," I say so what. Is it a threat to the world? (no.) Is it harming anyone? (no.)
I wouldn't worry about it in the slighest. Perhaps think of it more as of an "interest" if the word "Fetish" be of bother to you.
Enjoy and be happy!
Lets face it.........Long Hair IS wonderful and in so many cases to be admired. Anything wrong with appreciating what Nature gave us?
Only way you're going to find out different styles is by looking at others. There's nothing wrong in that. I do the same as there's so few guys with long hair
