Wow, being able to tie a safe ponytail is such a relief that its becoming my prefered style. (Boring huh?) No seriously, if I want to wear my hair down, I have to wash/condition/blow dry or wet/conditon/blow dry, just to get rid of the kinks and flips. With a ponytail I can just brush my hair, tie if up and go, its so much simpler. It takes me 5 minutes to get ready in the morning rather than 20 if I want to wear my hair down.
Also I've noticed that my hair lasts longer between washes if I keep it in a ponytail. Its much less prone to tangles and therefore much easier to brush. I've even taken to wearing a loose segmented ponytail whilst I sleep, as it saves so much hassle the next day as I barely have any knots or tangles.
Well I should be posting my 18 month progress pictures this weekend, but I've been taking the easy option with my hair the past few days and wearing it in a ponytail. The only drawback is, once my hair is in a ponytail, it can't come-out without been wahed/wet again as the hair tie causes major waves and kinks in my hair at the back of my head. So the formal progress pics must now wait until my next wash.
But in the meantime please feel to offer your comments on my ponytail pictures. What do you think? Does it look alright?
Yes, looks very smooth & shiny & healthy.
Feels great in hot weather, right? When my hair is tailed
it feels much cooler than when my hair was much shorter, a few years back.
You are absolutely correct about your tail allowing you go longer periods
without washing, etc.
And sleeping with a segmented tail certainly does help prevent tangles and those dreaded knots.
Between washings, I can restore the 'fresh look' appearance
to my hair by simply working some Melting Gel through it,
combing it out a bit and re-tailing it.
Looking forward to future pics.
Thanx for posting and...
Good luck on your Journey!
Thanks Luckind, yeah it feels much better in the heat its been upto 38 degrees celsius (shade) this past week, absolutely scoarching, the tail really helps.
It was your advice on the segmented ponytail that got me going down this track in the first place so kudos. :-)
Sorted
Very nice.
I can well see why..........I do it alot myself. It's such a snap and looks really great! (Talking about yours here.......but you'll see mine later.)
It was Luckskind who posted (I am quite sure) about this very same thing. And yes, it does work great! I have been doing it this way myself for about the last month. But tangles for me are rarely a problem anymore thanks to "Hot Oil" treatments combined with Aussie "Leave-in-Conditioner."
Don't know if this would work for you but it does for me. When removing the Ponyband, use one hand to hold the hair close to the head firmly while the other slides the band off. And yes, wetting the hair 1st makes it easiest of all.
Alright? How about SUPER FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!
you're hair looks great. It seems the conditioner you use leaves your hair frizze free even with the ponytail (Or so it looks in the photo) It also looks like you'll never have a problem with a thinnig hair line...
So whats your goal length?
Thanks - actually the only frizze I seem to suffer from is those few stray hairs around my parting, you know the annoying ones which stick straight up and are about an inch long, I wish I could get rid of them.
I'm going to even my hair out at the back once it reaches my shoulder blades, but I plan on keeping my bangs slightly shorter, just about an inch or two below my chin.
Once I've evened out I'll give some thought ot growing longer. :-)
That's brilliant - quite awsome. It looks good bith ways but the tail is a milestone and in those temperatures...
Have you thought about shaving your sideburns clean at the top of your ear - those stray hairs look distracting at the least?

Yes - but my sideburns finish rather high, I'm frightend to shave them as I might take some hair which I need. What makes it harder is that my beard is really light and I grow practically nothing along my sideburns so I have nothing to blend it in with.
Suggestions welcomed
The only suggestion I have is what I did, cos I used to be in the same boat.
I'm not sure exactly what age you are, guessing in your early twenties, but I'm sure they'll grow more over the next few years. Basically if you lower your shaving line - that is, don't shave your sidies up as high - let it grow for the next few weeks, trimming back the stray hairs that don't go behind your ears, just so they look neat.
Then, as it thickens, your sidies *should* blend in more with your hairline.
Just an idea, not sure if it'll work for you like it did for me... and even then it took me maybe a year for it to blend in and grow together.
Good luck.
wolfeyes
Thanks Wolfeyes - As it happens I'm 25, though judging by my facial hair you'd think I was 17...
Nor do I shave my sideburns up that high, I only shave to mid-ear, its just that my hairline finishes about 1/2 inch before my beard begins (and the beard is very light.) What you see in the photo are the hairs on the edge of my hairline with very short terminal length, they wisp around and are interspersed with hairs that grow much longer.
With no natural join between my beard and hairline I'm reluctant to shave or trim these hairs cos I'll only take my sideburns up higher. I guess I'll try your suggestion of trimming off the stray hairs so they finish straight and see if they thicken up any over the comming months.
Looking great, Sorted. Having your hair in the tail still shows the smooth lines and texture, and shine, very healthy looking, plus quite an alternate look to wearing it down.
Wow, that is such a cool looking tail!
I'd love the simplicity of only spending 5 minutes on my hair intead of 20-30 minutes. And it doesn't look that good even after that!
I definately love the cool ponytail look, must be a great option to have now :) Thumbs up!
Your hair looks better and better as it gets longer. As you now realize, ponytails are very convenient, and they are a real time saver. As your hair gets longer you will see less wave from the hair tie. (Click on my photo to see.) Now that you can put your hair in a ponytail you are through the most difficult part of growing it and from this point on it just gets easier. Absalom
Wow, you know, for me it's quite the opposite. I always wear my hair in a ponytail (I prefer the ponytail look) and I am quite obsessive about it. Like, I always have to get it to be PERFECT all the time (and most of the time it's not), no loose strands, snug (and the right amount of snugness too), but not tight, and a million other things so it takes me pretty long to do and I always have to run into bathrooms to touch it up. However, on days when I'm too tired to tie up my hair or try several times and fail I'll just say 'fuck it' and wear it down which only requires combing.
And yeah, tying your hair does give a little wave, but I find that leaving it down for a while or better yet sleeping a night with my hair down helps get rid of it.
Oh, and I do love your ponytail. How can you spend 5 minutes and get it to look like that?
Love,
Kiat T.
Hi Sorted
That ponytail looks really ace! I found your comments about less tangles after having your hair in a ponytail to be exactly the same as what I experience. If I leave my hair tied back all day I never get any tangles but if I leave it down (which I hardly do because it's always too hot) then I get tangles and start to resemble cousin IT. I get the wave effect too but this is something I like because it's an extra feature.
Like I said, great hair Sorted and keep up the good work!
Down or up, you have cool hair!
I know what you mean about it being easier in a ponytail - I'm keeping mine in a topknot most of the time, to keep it out of my face.
So when I can manage a ponytail in a few months, I'm sure it'll spend its fair share of time that way.
However, I love the look of hair when it's down, so if I want to look better I'll probably find another way to wear it down.
Congratulations on your growth, and your tail.
wolfeyes
I must say your hair looks very good, congratulations on coming this far!
I was just browsing through your old progress pictures, and looking at your 10 month picture (I'm at 10 months) your hair seems to be about the lenght I have now. Sometimes I feel it will never get to be long, but looking at how far you've come in only 8 more months makes me realise that the same will propably be true for me!
So thank you for helping me along :)
This isn't in regards just to you but to anyone who has long hair. It seems that if guys pull their hair back and put it in a ponytail, that for all intense purposes they end up looking not too different from when they wore their hair short. Is there sort of a contradiction in all this? (and I'm assuming such people aren't FORCED into braiding or tying up their hair out of necessity, because they want to prevent split ends, etc, or because their boss or friends frown upon long hair.)
Well, in my case (my hair is elbow-length and straight), I keep it back in a ponytail for practical reasons. I keep it back if I'm having to drive somewhere, if I am doing labor-intensive work, sometimes when I'm playing the piano (it's almost always pulled back during lessons, but never during performances), et cetera. I see no contradiction in this because when most longhaired males pull their hair back, they don't do it to make it look short. Most of the time, it's practicality that dictates when most of us tie back our hair. Sometimes, it's for a social reason. I have never been in a social climate where I am having to "fool" someone by putting my hair in a ponytail, but I have been asked to because it probably looks better than if my hair were to, say, fall in front of me or get really frizzy if I had walked around in the wind, so on and so forth.
Have I answered your question adequately? If not, feel free to email me.
This might be true for some, depending on how they wore their hair short, but my looks could not be more different. My hair, when short, stands out very large. Wearing my hair in a ponytail makes it lie very close to my head, and then the tail plumes out fairly large and flowingly. A very different look.
When I wear my hair loose or in a half tail, still a very different look.
Robert
I certainly don't look the same from behind. :-)
I guess you have a point from the front, but we don't live in a 2 dimensional world do we?
Is there sort of a contradiction in all this? (and I'm assuming such people aren't FORCED into braiding or tying up their hair out of necessity, because they want to prevent split ends, etc, or because their boss or friends frown upon long hair.)
Well I like the ponytail look and I like my hair down, but as explained there are a lot of practical benefits to the ponytail too.
And also, just thought I'd point out, your hair colour is dramatically different (blonde) now to when you had short hair (dark), so you don't look the same in that respect either!
Ofcourse you look good!! Can't wait to see how it will look like in a braid when it's longer! :)
I just got back from my very hot vacation...it was like 36 degrees or maybe higher, so my hair got a real beating from the sun. But I had some good products to help keep it in balance!
Can't wait to see your progress pics!
Hi longhaired gal, so you've just got back from Ibiza?! That's cool. I'm going to Northen Spain (near Barcelona) next monday for 7 days.
Do you think I can bleach my hair and turn it much blonder looking in 7 days in the sun, at Barcelona's latitude? My hair is already more of a dark golden blonde normally, and that's with very little exposure of the sun (I had this colour in february, too cold to go out much then) Even while I'm surfing, the sun does bleach my hair quite a bit, but will the stronger sun exposure in spain bleach it even more? What's your experience? Thanks
Yeah I got back yesterday, it was awesome!
By the sound of it, you've got the same colour hair my brother's got. And when he's in the sun alot, his hair turns to bright blonde. And if you gonna surf as well, it will def. get lighter in colour! I think most blonde guys or girls will get "more" blonde when in the sun alot. In some cases the hair will get natural "highlights". You should, however, take care of your hair before going into the sun. Maybe use a similar product that I used when I was in Ibiza. It's a conditioner that protects the hair against the UV rays from the sun, but your hair will still get lighter, so you don't have to worry about that. You should just protect your hair against the sun, as it will cause the hair to get frizzy and even cause split ends.
How long is your hair now? Do you have a pic of it?
Anyways, enjoy your holiday! And be safe!
Thee Longhaired Gal
That's great to hear, I'm definately ging ther with my mates when I'm just a little bit older, like when I'm university age.
My mothers hair colour is blonde, and Fathers is Mousy, sort of light brown, but at the the time, blonde, lol very weird. So I'm lucky I come from blonde parents, but my hair has lots of natural highlights, even at the roots, as well as a bit of sun highlights on the tips.

Thanks a lot for the advice, I will shop tomorrow probably for a UV protector conditioner, do you have any suggestions?
I have got a pic, but as it was taken indoors, makes my hair appear dark brown, so it's not worth showing. Been growing for 8 months from a buzz, currently it's about 6.5 inches long, or lip length when pulled straight, because I have wavy hair.
Thanks very much.

I've just found a pic, 4 months old, of me trying to show the camera how blonde my hair is, have I convinced you lol?
In rality, my hair's a slightly different shade of blonde to that photo, I used my crappy old camera.

I can give you the names of the ones I used when I was on vacation. But I am not sure if you can buy it in your country as well.
Here it is:
1. Guhl Suncare protection hairlotion - Protects the hair against the sun
2. Ghul Suncare Sunshine Gel-spray - Gives light styling and protects against the UV rays of the sun (I used this one)
3. Ghul Suncare After sun instant Repair - Repairs the moisture balance of the hair after sun and sea exposure (I used this one)
The difference between no. 1 and 2 is the fact that no. 2 has a gel formula that gives extra styling. So it's a protector and styling gel in one.
I've taken a picture of it so that you can get a idea of what the product looks like.
I spelled no. 2 and 3 wrong...arrgggg...it should be Guhl
sorry...
and your hair looks great keep it growing!
Hi Longhaired Gal
Hope you enjoyed your Vacation - I know what you mean about heat - its been the same here in Tenerife.
Maybe I'll try a braid again soon, see how it looks, the back is getting quite long. I've actually taken my progress pics tonight but I figured that I've had enough attention on the board for a while so I won't post them for another few days. But if you want a sneek peak, they are already on my web site :-)
Sorted
Hey Sorted!
Yeah I had a very nice vacation thanks! It was very hot in Ibiza. The hottest day was, I think, 38 degrees nearing 40!
I took a look at your new progress pics and you look handsome! If you don't mind me saying so - you are very photogenic.
Anyways, I will be finishing my website soon and will have a page where I'll have some progress pics of my hair and others on it.
Keep your hair growing and all the best with your company as well :o)
P.S. I didn't know you could speak Spanish...interesting
Thee Longhaired Gal
Mind? Not at all, but my camera would disagree with you, it whines in dissaproval everytime I turn it upon myself. :-p
Look forward to seeing it, be sure to post a message when you have finished so we can take a look.
Thanks - and Spanish... hey after 16 years living in Spain it would be a travesty if I didn't. :-)
What's your url?
I personally like it better down. It frames your face nicely, but I understand the practicality of having it in a ponytail!
Congrats and keep it growing.
You have a very good ponytail (in Italy we call it "codino").
Have you got any other images of your ponytail? I'm growing my hair and I would like to have a great ponytail as you are.
Have you cut your hair under your ponytail?
Can you make a photo with your ponytail in the top of your head?
And a photo without the ponytail?
Great! Thanks!
Simmi
Dear David,
I visited your site. I'm an Italian 24-year-old boy, and I'm trying to grow up my hair. I want to tie the ponytail too.
You have a great ponytail! Can I see other photos of your ponytail?
Now what's your hair length? Have you got a photo of your hair now (without ponytail)?
Have you ever tried to tie your tail over your "ear-line" (middle of the head)? If you can, make it and send me a photo. It'll be great!
Pls. answer me!
Simmi

About 11 inches.
See my Profile Pic - Top left.
Hmm... not really my thing... I doubt I would style my hair that way and any pictures I take I share publically rather than mail to individuals - I'm not one for private correspondence.

Oops promised the profile pic didn't I?

Dear David,
thanks for the pics. Waiting for updates on your site... within some months!
Next month, perhaps, i will publish my growth photos.
Thanks.
Simmi
What can I say... it looks great!
