OK as promised at the weekend when I posted the "ponytail" pics here are my formal progress pics for July, (which in a rather contradictory way, were actually taken on August the 1st.) Anyway this represents 18 months of growth.
I kinda feel like I have arrived now, I am now recognised as having "longhair"; I can tie a safe ponytail, my hair falls well past my shoulders and people describe me as having long hair.
What's more I am finally happy with my hair and I feel like I am fulfilling a lifelong dream, I cannot ever see myself having short hair again, its a very weird realisation when you actually find something you are so content with that you never want to let it go. (Almost sounds like True Love doesn't it?)
Well I settle for calling it "contentment", I'm happy with long hair.
Congratulations.... It looks so silky. You have some great hair that you should be very proud of. Its good to see a guy stick to it. I need your determination.
Stand up and be counted, politically, socially and in regards to hair.
Hope its a good day for you.
Steve
Hey. Nice hair. I wanted mine to do a little flip/curl at the ends like yours but have no idea how so I gave up. Oh, the woes of having straight hair.
You're feeling the same way I felt when I tied a real pony tail for the first time! I felt like I've achieved long hair at last. Of course, then I got dumb and chopped it off then grew it back out right away (now it's longer than ever before, despite the idiotic stylist incident). And seriously, it IS something you never want to part with. I hope I'm like my grandpa, he died at 74 with his head still full of black hair. Oooh, I just wish.
Love,
Kiat T.
You may curse your genes, but remember you're blessed with strong hair genes - densely growing, great condition, strong coloured straight hair.
I've noticed many asian people have this fantastic condition hair! I do understand of course that you'd like to try different styles... most of us have at some point.
But you're luckier than many other people.. and looks like you'll not have to worry about thinning or balding!
wolfeyes
LOL. Thanks. I just wish you were right, but my genes really aren't great. My dad is 50 and he is alread half bald (he's always had thin hair too, and same for every male in his family) and my brother (23) has VERY thin hair. I may or may not be in this sad cycle. I hope I'd gotten genes mostly from my mom's side, minus the cancer, heart diseases, and diabetes. I'm not overly worried though, I do have hair mostly like my mom. At least for now...
Love,
Kiat T.
I understand you also have a picture of the length of your bangs...how about posting it as well.

I'm sorry Sorted, I meant posting it on YOUR site.
Just one word for it, Sorted.
A W E S O M E
I'm glad that you are now so happy after the torment.
Grats! Welcome to the club!
Thanks do I get a card a key to the washroom?
We have a washroom?
Nobody tells me anything!!!!
heheheh
Sorted, you have excellent hair. It is a nice color and you are keeping in good condition. Reaching the 'long hair' stage just creeps up on you, doesn't it? Do you know where you plan to stop or are you just going to let it grow and see what happens? Congratulations on reaching the 'long hair' milestone and thanks for the update and the great photography.
Thanks Gollan coming from a master like yourself that means a lot. :-)
Yeah only honestly it seemed to come out of no-where, but its most certainly here.
No plans to stop, I'm gonna get the bottom evened out a little towards the end of the year. So I'll hold at around shoulderblade length for a while whilst I do, then I'll go where-ever the hair takes me.
Sorted
It is interesting how before you grow your hair long, many people probably would have predicted you'd end up with a darker, more brunette color. Now that it's grown out, the actual lighter look of your hair comes through quite nicely, as seen from the back, which is less apparent when it's in a ponytail.
I mentioned previously that it seemed ironic for many guys to grow their hair long and to then often wear it tightly bound up in the back.
Through the years, I've noticed many males with long hair frequently wear it tied up, sometimes held together with multiple rubber bands, whereas women with long hair are more likely to have it in a variety of styles, free flowing in particular. I've sometimes wondered if this difference is because many guys, after allowing their hair to grow long, feel it remains necessary, for whatever reason, to wear their locks tightly pulled back so that the crown of their head still has the convenience of short hair.
I think your right, maybe there is a reluctance for guys to to allow hair to fall free. I think its because there's a social demand on men to appear "in control", controlling their hair is just one way to demonstrate this, think about it, short hair or long hair. Who looks more "in control" the guy with the windswept hair brushing his bangs across his forehead or the guy with the neatly styled, gel-held, latest fashion style?
I actually wear my hair down as often as I tie it back. My confidence and control comes through my voice not my appearnce. I'm comfortable with that, many other less secure people aren't.
The few times it seems to be just the opposite is when performers in rock band are on stage. Or even non rockers, for that matter.
I still recall reading a music review of a Don Henley concert, around the time the singer had let his hair grow long. The critic said it was distracting when Henley, after having his hair tied back during the earlier segments of the show, let it loose and fall down over his face.
When someone has nice silky hair as you do, it looks too good to not want to run my hands through it. Too good, IOW, to be pulled back and looking like (as seen from the front) its on someone whose head is closely cropped.
Your individual lifestyle dictates how much you have to protect your hair. I keep multiple tie bands on my hair to keep it from being destroyed by knotting, tangling, and tattering due to high wind speed (20 to 30 miles per hour) encountered while riding my bicycle. My ponytail is about 39 inches long (click on my photo to see my hair loose) but would only be half that length (or less)if I allowed the wind to have its way with it. Absalom
If you look carefully, you will see that many women wear their hairs in ponytails or up, too. The longer hair gets, the more often you need to get it out of your way, and the more you need to protect it.
Yesterday was a hot day, I was in the city and saw almost no one with their hair long and loose.
Maybe I just notice guys with long hair more than women because such a style is less common on a male. But in all the years I've come across people with long hair, the guys more than the girls seem to more frequently wear it tightly bound up. By comparison, I don't recall ever seeing as many long haired women with their hair braided up with many rubber bands, as a guy like Absalmon does. Also, I guess as a woman I can put my longer hair in curlers, and thereafter wear it down, whereas a guy would look silly doing the same thing.
Maybe it's true about men. For me personally, when I last had long hair I rarely put it in a tail or anything, but just let it flow.
It was mainly for excersize and sometimes school that it came in a tail.
Well one thing's for sure, it will be rare for me to put my hair in a tail.
Your hair's still pretty short, in the cosmic scheme of things. You'll find, as it reaches mid-back, that you will have to tie it back often in order to keep it out of the way.
In the very least, you will need to keep the hair out of the food and the food out of the hair.:)
I've worn my hair that way, but I find it more comfortable in one or two braids.
I couldn't put my hair in curlers to save my life, and if I did, it would never dry. When your hair is really long, it's just easier to wear it up, so you never get it caught in a seat belt retractor or on a doorknob. There are so many more styles you can do, and there's more impact when you do decide to wear it down. People forget very quickly, and then you get lots of compliments.
Love your hair let it get real long It is beautiful.
Looks great! Congratos!
*mock annoyance*
Hey - you cheated... you saw before... :-)
*grin*
Ha Ha...but it doesn't hurt to look again right? :o))
Btw, how come you don't have contact info on your website? Is it for security reasons? Yeah I know this might be a dumb question. I usually don't put mine online as well, but because I'm getting a hosting account, I will have to for my clients. Do you have any other websites to show that you've made? Sorry for posting on here, but there seems to be no other way to communicate.
Security is part of the deal, but also time, I didn't want to post a mailto: link as I don't want spambots harvesting my personal address. But I had plans for putting in a contact form which I could use like spam filter but no time of yet to do it.

Great Job!
One word to describe your hair: Beautiful!
The trim on the sides look really good, something I will do when I reach my one year mark.
You must be very very proud of the way you look, and feel about a hundred times more confident now than 18 months ago.
The cousin IT pic was jaw dropping.
You've been taking great care and I know for sure now your hair is probably the healthiest hair I've ever seen.
Congratulations mate!
Thanks Mate, :-) You're too kind...
Hey Sorted :-)
Hair looks great! Congratz! Glad your enjoying your hair , it would have been terrible if you had made this much progress and then decided you didnt like it!
*Virtual handshake!"

Fantastic as always, dude.
Also glad you're so happy with it - that's the main thing. Looking good is just a bonus.
wolfeyes
Also looks like you've lost that camera-shy part of you (you mentioned you always stare awkwardly at the lens) - now you're all smiles.
Congrats.
wolfeyes
You so right... I'm happy with and thats what counts most for me, though personally i didn't think it looked that great, so I wasn't expecting this kinda overwhelming response. Its been nothing short of incredible... (must have been a slow day on the board. :-)) No seriously I really appreciate the fantastically kind feedback I've receive.
Thanks
and, of course, it's shiny, very thick and looks well taken care of. (which I'm sure it was!)
18 months is a major milestone, of course! And from now on every
extra bit of growth will allow you to FEEL the WEIGHT of your hair more & more...and what a nice feeling that is!
I've always heard that at 18 months (or 9 inches) one is officially a Longhair,
so that is certainly something to celebrate!
C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S ...
and Good Luck on your continuing Journey!
OK as promised at the weekend when I posted the "ponytail" pics here are my formal progress pics for July, (which in a rather contradictory way, were actually taken on August the 1st.) Anyway this represents 18 months of growth.
Thanks Luckskind, appreciate the compliments. :-)
Actually I'm already feeling the weight of my hair (strange as it can't weight more than a few grams, but I'm now aware of gentle pull down my back :-D And that only 11 inches.
Hi Sorted
I don't know what it is that you do, but whatever it is, keep doing it- Your hair is amazing with great shine and the waves are cool too.
Thanks!
Thanks, I'm not actually doing anything special, just washing with Redken Smooth Down Shampoo & Conditioner, and I use their AntiSnap leave in conditioner as required. I have a really good ionic hair dryer with a full power cold setting so no heat damage for me, my naturally thick hair and sunbleached highlights does the rest.
I guess your just a lucky man! Keep up the good work and we're all looking forward to your next batch of pictures.
...progress, Sorted. I actually think your hair is as long as mine now!! In fact, your hair looks longer than mine in the back. Glad to see/hear that you're so happy.
What fantastic hair!!
Sure looks good....I would have thought it was more than 18 months growth. The color is incredible. Thanks for sharing.
I think that hair color is called HONEY BLONDE if I am not mistaken. Absalom
Wow...looks awesome.
Ed
Looking great, Sorted, keep it up. Is your hair getting lighter through the summer? Glad to see you're having success and happy with it, it sounds like you're well past the point of no return, safely through the awkward stage, so congratulations. I'm looking forward to being there in the next 6 to 9 months.
Hi Sorted, you are getting some really good length now, it just looks better with every photo update. Kudos for your patience. It is good to see you are finally happy with it too. Absalom
YOUR HAIR IS SO COOL LOOKING
Such nice and neat hair.
Felt compelled to write and tell you that you look like that French actor guy...Gerard De par blah blah. Ha. I hope you take that as a compliment! :) Hey, since I'm here, I could use some advice. My boyfriend has hair past his shoulders now and it is still poofy. Anyone try a relaxer or is that only for African American hair?
--------------
Relaxers can work on any hair that is curlier than you like, but they are damaging, so if he's planning on growing his hair longer, it's a really bad idea.
If he just wants to keep the length he has, and is willing to trim off damage regularly, you might want to try it.
Relaxers should not be used on lightened hair. Period.
Also, if you mean a chemical relaxer, it will cause terrible damage and isn't advisable unless your boyfriends hair is shoulder length or less. If he plans to grow it longer, try using straighteners (heat) instead, and apply a heat treatment to protect the hair before using the straightener. Chemical relaxers and hair straighteners are two different things, as we all found out when Blonde (a member here) showed us the results!

You're the second person to say that in the space of a fortnight.
I know its intended as a compliment, but the guy has the ugliest nose I have ever seen. It long and narrow until the base which is extraordinally wide, and it has a little divit in the middle.
He's also about 40 years my senior, I dunno - I appreciate the sentiment, but I can't feel flattered by been compared to Gerrard Depardieu. (Sorry)
Yeah, you're much better looking.
Actually, you remind me of a guy I was working with last spring. His hair was your type and color, but quite a bit longer, and his ponytail curled up like you would see on a picture of a classical composer at a soirée.
Last time I saw him he had cut it short, and it stood up on top, making him look very pointy-headed. Undistinguished.
Wow Sorted..............does your hair ever look fantastic beyond belief! Thanks so much for posting those photos. I am so happy for you that you stuck-out the growing stage and now can enjoy magnificent Long Hair. I fail to see how anyone could give you a negative comment at this point. But positives? Lots!
All the best-
Justin~
