Hey guys I just got back from another week at pennsylvania. I got to fire guns for the first time, an AK-47, AR-15 and a 22 gauge rifle. It was pretty fun but anyway, my grandma asks me if I always wear my hat and I say most of the time. She comes out with "you know wearing that will make you go bald." I say how do you figure that and she tells me it cuts off circulation... funny I thought hairloss was caused by something called DHT. Anyone know?

Uhm, a lot of people wear hats (and even more used to 50 years ago) and a lot of those people aren't bald.
I think that the wear and tear on your hair caused by it is the worst you have to worry about.
I've seen this myth de-bunked on TV. It's not true.
Someone pointed out on here that back when men wore hats in the 19th Century, there were just as many bald men as there were non-bald men.
I should imagine you could get a scalp infection if you constantly wear a hat everyday if the conditions are similar to foot rot in your cap. Then you might lose some hair.
The "Wearing-hat-causes-baldness" myth stems from the fact that many bald men wear hats because they are bald and so many people (granny) come to the conclusion that the hat must be the reason for the baldness. These poor guys are just trying to cover up. :)
"...These poor guys are just trying to cover up..."
POOR GUYS ! OH GASP !! HA!
Actually, the hat-causing-baldness is a myth, but we "thinning" fellows will tend to wear a hat to cover it.....not just for vanity.....sunburn hurts !!
Old wive's tale - quite untrue.
I've heard a few people say that keeping your hair in a pony tail all the time will cause your hairline to recede. Sounds like bunk to me. Anyone have the facts?
Thanks,
JBC
If you pulled your hair so tightly that you pulled out some hairs, the loss would be temporary. When they started growing back in, they would be too short to catch in the ponytail, so it would grow back.
I think you'd have to pull it painfully tight to see this hair loss.
