Picture Purged
As of August first, I have reached my 3-year mark. I have attached a mosaic of photos showing how I looked following my very last haircut in August 2001, followed by an image from August of each successive year.
If it looks like the growth slowed in the last year it is because I have been doing little trims trying to get the layers out of my hair.

What a fascinating series of photos......all look great, but it is amazing how drastically different your appearance is, based on facial hair......my favorite is mustache, no beard, least favorite is clean shaven.
Lookin' good ! Thanks for sharing.

My least favorite is also clean shaven. I have this little "cupid's bow" mouth that I prefer to keep covered up. As a result, I have been clean shaven for a sum total of 15 days since November 1976!
Your hair looks great in that 3 year photo. Those little trims really did help even things up. Thanks for sharing the update photos. Absalom
You have some excellent growth, it looks extremely thick.
You mentioned just now trimming to even out the layers now that you're into your third year. Since the question has come up a lot recently, and since I'm getting very frustrated with layers still being in the awkward stage, I must ask you a question. Are you happy you waited to trim, or would you recommend some along the way?
If you look at my 1-year pic, you can see that while my hair was shorter, it still maintained its natural wave. It was not until my second, year did the hair begin to straighten under its own weight. So it took it 2 years before the layers were visible enough to allow the trims. Even at my 3-year mark, I still have about 2" (5cm) difference between the layers and am due for my final trim.
Looks fantastic BRO!!! Keep up the great progress!!!!

Looks great! I can't wait till' this time next year when it will be 3 years for me. :D
I think your hair is magnificent now... and I hope very happy and pleased... I enjoyed looking at it!

Scott,
You have consistently been a source of support and encouragement. I sincerely appreciate your kindness and positive influence!

Great hair William, looks great, the beard really adds to the look too, it gives you an air of wisdom and authority, (almost Gandalf-like.)
Well grown.

Why thank you Sorted. And may I add that you look rather Samwise Gamgee yourself!
I'll take that as a compliment, Sean Astin is cool. :-) Personally I think I look more like Smeogle, before the ring corrupted his soul.
I take it you were unimpressed by my comparision. (It was meant in a good way.)
Sorted
It was meant as a compliment. Sam is (in my opinion) one of the best characters in the story. It may sound hokey, but I find his "stalwart and true" character to be most appealing. You have a honest and open face, and since I associate those characteristics with Sam, I compared you to him.
I wouldn't exactly say that I was "unimpressed". I know it was intended as a compliment. But all of my adult life, I have been compared to "wise and mature" architypes: wizard, professor, shamen, etc. I guess it has something to do with the eyes and the beard, but not really sure....
I understand, its not nice to be pigeon holed for anything, thought all these architypes command respect, and personally I can think of no better form of reverence.
Congratulations - great progress. What is your ultimate goal length?
You may find this odd, but I really don't have one.
Fair enough - keep on g(r)o(w)ing!
Wow, congratulations William! I have to say your hair looks great in every one of the pictures. You long hair is magnificent. Great beard and mouchstache styles too. Are you still trimming to remove the layers? Will you continue to let your hair grow? Thanks for the update.

Thanks Gollan! Yes, I still have some layers. I estimate the last layers are about 2" shorter than the rest. I am just about ready to do my last trim. Of course I continue to let it grow and just see where it goes from here...
Wow William-
What a differance and what a great success! :-)
Thanks so much for sharing the pics.

.
William,
I haven't read all the replies below, forgive me if this has already been answered.
Have you been doing your own trims, meaning a do-it-youself trim?
If so, how?
The hair & beard really suit you well, congrats on the 3yr mark!
No. Lucky for me that I have a friend who delights in helping me with my hair.
...from picture to picture! You hardly look like the same man!
Anyway, thanks for the progress photos and
congratulations on your THREE YEARS of growing!
Good Luck and Best Wishes!
Same person, same face, only the hairy features have changed. (in addition to getting a lot greyer over the last 3 years)
