It seems silly to me that so many people would be against men having long hair. Some of our country's most famous men had it! I just saw a documentary on Paul Revere, and most people don't know that he had hair down to his butt, as did many others of his era. George Washington had shoulder length. I work for the Government, and I see very few long-haired men. The ones I do see are VERY respected. I think because they are so respected, they are allowed to be the exception. Almost anyone growing their hai below collar length is reprimanded.
Personally, I think long hair on a guy is very attractive, as long as it's not stringy and messy...just as most guys feel the same way abou a woman's hair. I think if a guy has a really thick head of hair, he practically has an obligation to grow it out...I mean, why would a guy want to waste that luxury by chopping it off???
Exactly the point of most of the folks on this board, Julie, including
me.

P.S. By the way, how did Revere style his butt-length hair? I don't
recall seeing pictures of him with his hair down. OM

He almost always wore his hair in a single braid with a small ribbon at the end. But when he had engagements with his commanders or politicians, or anyone from "high society", he bundled his braid with a ribbon and tucked it under a wig that had a short ponytail. They showed a picture of his skeleton in his casket (he was recently exhumed) and his hair was in a long braid and most of the hair was still on his skull... it was gross looking, but proved that it was the style to have long hair then. The longer the better.
Julie, I think that you are right. If a guy has nice hair he should grow it out and many probably would like to (me included) the thing is society for whatever screwy reason looks down on long haired guys. It is a big double standard because girls can wear long, short, very short whatever, but guys are only supposed to have very short hair.
It isn't fair. I have nice healthy shiny hair and I would like to grow it out and get a chin length bob with bangs but everytime it starts getting long the people around start pressuring me to cut ut because "it is getting too long and girlish". So what about these girls with super short cuts, is that not manish? I just don't understand. So what is your opinion on a guy with a bob?
