Hey guys (and the few gals that lurk)!
Haven't updated in awhile...I think my hair growth is slowing down. It hasn't stopped, I know that. I really hope that it can go longer than this. I'd be real happy with near waist length. Anyhow, I haven't updated my site, but here's a couple of pics for now. Incidently, I'm at 3 years and 4 months!!!

Sid's 'File is inaccessible'
Dang...so it does.
Fargin' Yahoo. The album is completely missing for some reason. I'll attend to it immediately.
Sorry

Brett,
Honestly? I can see that it's gotten longer since April, but it was in better condition in the April photo. You need to seriously think about your hair care routine if what you want is waist-length hair.
I'm speaking as a person whose hair used to break off rather than get trimmed, who believes that terminal length is generally knee-length or longer, and who loves to see long hair on guys.
Katherine
Actually I think his hair's condition is quite good and has not changed, only the lighting in the photos has changed and plus I have seen the photos on his site and my summary is that he is taking good care for his hair.
I actually agree with Marc, the condition of Brett's hair seems to have changed little since his last set of photos. I don't think there is anything necessarily wrong with his hair care routine.
Brett has grown without trims and his hair is pretty straight and looks quite fine. So it shows the naturally uneven finish of his ends more so than say Bill who has pretty thick curly hair.
I'd think this was perfectly normal following 3 years of growth without trims, though personally, I'd agree it might look better if it was gradadually trimed level, but Brett has his own priorities and I don't think he's necessarily doing anything wrong.
Sorted
Maybe it's because I'm looking it as a woman, and I'm looking for something different. But I look at that first picture and say to myself, Eventually he's going to have to trim 3", and it will be blunt-cut. Then I look at the second picture, and I think, That's what my hair did.
Sorted agrees with me?! OH MY GOD! I might as well say it is damaged because when Sorted agrees with me then worlds collide and the heavens fall.
Who'd-a-thunk (for those of you not from the South here's the translation: "Who would have thought") that the subject of my hair would be the catalyst that made 2 polar opposites agree on something. Thanx for the compliments guys!
You see, we CAN all get along!
Take care & keep it growin, y'all!

OK, here's the deal with the April vs. August pics. In the April pics, I used a blow dryer to dry my hair (on the "cool" setting) while using a detangling comb and/or brush. It always looks a lot better when I blow dry it, but I hear so many people talk about the damage that is caused by blow drying that I have been having it dry naturally. Frankly, I have always felt it's looked it's best after blow drying. Natural drying doesn't really leave my hair as soft.
As far as my routine goes, I used to wash it nearly every day. In the past year and a half, I've cut back the shampoos to 1-2 per week. Any other days that I wash it just involves water rinsing and conditioning. I've told people this before, I really don't believe that even if I cut it all off and started fresh it would still end up like this 3 years later. I've got really dry hair and there's absolutely nothing I can do about it other than letting the natural oils seep in and do it's tricks.
Thanx for the comments!
Consider getting a little spray bottle. Fill it with an ounce of water, 1/2 teaspoon of jojoba. If you have a favorite fragrance, add a few drops. Shake well and spritz whenever your hair feels dry.
I've also had luck with working a few drops of coconut oil through my hair.
I agree with Katherine, it does look better in the April photo. Looks very dry in the other one : ( you look like your hair needs a protein treatment to be honest. This may help with the drynes as damaged hair is more porous so more prone to drying out easier. You could try something like joico k-pak reconstructor and leave it on for like 1/2 hour. Then use a cond afterwards. Also the use of a leave in cond may help (soz i never read your routine so I dont know if you already use one or not) Jojoba oil is also good as Katherine pointed out. However its not really conditioning.
Brett, congratulations on your 3 years and 4 months of growth. Your hair looks great! I especially like the colors. I see we are both members of the 'no trims' club. I suggest you measure you hair to see if it really is slowing down. I recently though mine had slowed down but a measurement confirmed that it was still growing at the usual rate. Good luck with your waist-length goal and thanks for the update!
Totally awesome! What's really interesting about your hair is the way your gray and natural colour comes through, like a sort of timeline for when you started going gray. It's really unfair for people to turn gray!!! I admire your non trim approach, and of course, your hair!
Take care
Actually, Surferdude, it's more like a timeline showing when I stopped having it colored...which was over a year ago. I've been slowly "graying" since before I was 30. I used to go to a local salon and pay an ungodly amount of money for someone to color treat it. After awhile I just got tired of having it done...not to mention the cost...and it never seemed to completely get rid of all the gray. I just really didn't want to get too old before my time!!!
I admire your non trim approach, and of course, your hair!
Thanx for the compliments. Eventually I may get it trimmed. Who knows. I really don't think it will make it look that much better. Plus, I don't think I could trust anyone to cut it anyhow LOL!
Brett
Fab color! Free-flowing and wavy!
You did not mention how you 'prepared' your hair for picture taking.
If you just combed or brushed it out, that is perhaps why
some here think it might be damaged.
I have a different opinion: Hair that is combed out when dry (Not wet)
tends to fluff out--especially at the ends.
For example: I sleep with my hair tailed. When I get up in the morning,
I gently remove the tie and let my hair gently fall around
my shoulders. It looks wavy, moist and nicely separated.
BUT if I then comb it out when it is dry, it can fluff out
like cotton candy near the ends.
Wetting the hair and then combing it with the fingers allows the hair
to separate nicely inot wavy sections again.
Anyway, I thought I'd add my two cents worth!
Congratulations on the long Journey you have been on!
I just brushed my hair before taking the pic. As far as looking damaged, well...maybe it is. I don't know. But I do know that it's always been really dry no matter how much conditioning I would use.
I do that often as well. It feels and looks great in the morning, doesn't it?
Your hair looks great!
Keep up the good work!
Thee Longhaired Gal
