Since receiving a lower-end Dell Computor about 6 months ago, I was naturally put on their mailing list. Every month in the mail comes the "latest" deals etc. Catalog.
I have noticed what I consider to be a bit of an indirect "slam" at guys w/long hair in the Aug. issue. Hardly a help to the masses to see a Longhaired guy up to no good............at least this is how I read the photo. Doesn't help our "image," especially to guys like us on this Hyperboard.
This catalog abounds with "Happy Faces," Computors, accesories, special deals throughout. The center stapled insert is for an ad: "Keep The Hackers At Bay." The photo that accompanies this ad shows a younger guy w/long hair doing(?) with a computor. In the foreground is a big yellow bag which reads: "While you were out HACKERS tried to break in."
Strange that they had to feature a Long Hair as the "Bad guy."
Much better taste I feel would have been this ad without a photo.
Anyone else notice this?
Or perhaps I have "read" this photo incorrectly and the Longhair is really the "good guy" with a messed-up computor?
But the main point is that ANYONE chosen for a photo such as this is almost (to myself anyway) like pointing a finger at any nationality, ethnic group etc. (Even if it be a little olde lady of 90 years of age.)
In short........an ad of bad taste.
By your rational then all ads featuring a "bad guy" are attacking that group. If there's a burglar for a Schloman Shield commercial that's a white guy with short brown hair and is a bit overwieght then that ad is trying to make all white guys with short brown hair and a few extra pounds out to be bad people. Lighten up a bit and the world will seem like a nicer place to live.
If you say so.
Yes, for those of us who have had long hair for a time it's a familiar reoccuring theme.
One would think that a much more effective way to portray a hacker in advertising which is trying to make them look bad would be to have a faceless or monster-like image.
Remember this, the White House is run by short haired imbeciles that is incompetent to ever make one precise decision, that'll benefit citizens as a whole entirely.
My suggestion to you is simple, Sport a mullet and be proud your not caught up in the robotic schematics that are mapped out for short hair wearing drones!
Yes, because, as we open-minded longhairs are BOUND to assume, every male in America who consciously chooses to wear his hair short is a mindless drone, and probably votes Republican.
You ruin the party for the rest of us, Hawking.
"Strange that they had to feature a Long Hair as the "Bad guy.""
Have you never heard of the stereotype hacker?
I have a Gateway computer now. I guess when I need to upgrade it in the near future, I just won't buy a Dell!!!!
