Picture Purged
Hi All,
Well my hair is growing nicely and the layers are "almost" gone....for the rest of the progress pics, you can look on my website...it will be updated monthly.
I'm very happy with it so far...and once again thanks for all the support and advice that I've gotten on here!
Best of luck to all of you growing your hair!
Thee Longhaired Gal
Your hair looks fantastic. Looks like it has tremendous body and conditioning. Awesome soft curl too.
Dawn
Hi Dawn :)
Thanks alot for the kind words!
I just hope I can maintain it this way...when it gets longer, it gets difficult-if you know what I mean.
Especially the weight of it when it's wet...Like I said to Sorted, I just hope the headaches will stay at bay, and let me grow my hair as long as possible :P
Hi Longhaired Girl
You hair looks great - long and very thick. :-)
Are you trimming out your layers or just letting it grow terminal?
Hey Sorted
I'm growing my layers out, which would be terminal I guess...as long as the headaches don't return :o)
Actually, that was the "main" reason for cutting it into layers in the first place (doctor's recommendation)
And thanks for the nice comment, really appreciate it!
People come up to me all the time and ask if I get headaches from my hair. I just say no, but lots of people say their doctors told them to get it cut. I say, take advil and the unrelated headaches will pass, we are designed to have long hair.
One woman even told me that having long hair gave her daughter a fever. The doctor said to get it cut, and she didn't get sick again. Give me a break!
Well as a matter of fact I DID get alot of headaches...imagine your hair being pulled by 20 - 30 kg of weight (figure of speech)...it should give you an idea of what I went through..I used to think it was caused by something else, but as my hair got longer...(back then my hair was past my hips and it was very thick and heavy), it also increased my headaches...so I guess some people get them and others don't...
Thats so strange, ive never heard of people getting headaches from having excessive long hair... I mean its not that heavy! if it was it would pull itself out. What possible could cause them however is heat. Given that hair has excellent insulation properties a very heavy thock head of hair could cause your head to overheat slightly making you feel funny.
I just plopped my hair onto my kitchen scale, and it looks like it weighs 4-1/2 ounces, less than a hat. Given that each hair is individually anchored, and I have about 150,000 hairs (I calculated this once, very boring task), that means that each hair weighs .00084g. Not very much.
Wow, thanks, yep it would probably weigh a tiny bit more tho unless you just shaved it all off (u didnt did u!? lol) you head would have supported some of the weight but it does give a very good indication that yes the weight of hair is very unlikly to cause headaches. : )
Given the inaccuracies and assumptions in every step of this process (can you imagine how long it takes to count the ~700 hairs in a quarter-inch lock of mine? What's the ± on that?) I wouldn't be surprised if it's somewhat off, but most of my hair (2'+) was in the basket, and my head was on the counter.
Don't try this at home. :^}>
lol sounds like one of those things you just need to see! Just to be pedantic the scales also probably werent that accurate on such small measurments, you really need to use the sort you use in a lab but for the life of me I cant remember what they're called. Not that we're being totally accurate!! : ) You could estimate your total hair count maybe easier (and possible more accurate) by taking the whole lot then dividing it in two ten times. Then count these number exactly then multiply by 1024... since 2^10 is 1024 - just an idea if you bored one day).
I think the only way to accurately measure the weight of hair is to weigh it not attached to a head. Those lab balances are too accurate for weighing a bundle of hair still attached to a living head. So everything is an estimate.
Actually, the method I used was based on real data obtained from my own hair. I tightly twisted a lock to 1/8", counted all the hairs in it, calculated the hairs/sq.in. of my hair. (Two reps) Then, measuring the circumference of my ponytail, I calculated the area, multiplied it by the number of hairs per square inch.
I think it's probably pretty accurate, ±10-20%. It is in agreement with the fact that my hair is finer than most, and the general estimate is that typical scalps contain 100,000 hairs.
...Or you could do it that way : ) yep - balence thats the one im thinking of.. I miss using them : ( Anyways which ever way you do it, it still comes out as hair doesnt weigh much.
Go ahead and flame if you want, but from the FAQ:
Ladies are welcome here. However, the conversation must stay on topic. Illustrating hair styles with female pictures is fine, for example, if the attached message refers to some aspect of hair style on men. However, if a male picture that illustrates the point just as well is also available, please use it instead.
I don't see the relevance of your post. What's the point of having the above rule if it's not enforced? The web is a big place. You're free to create your own message board about women's long hair and post there.
Thee Longhaired Gal has been very supportive of male posters, and told us that she had received better support here than she had received from other (female based) boards. For those reasons, I think we should welcome her posts here - mutual support is what we are about, even where the rules may not be strictly observed.
Keep on growing!
That's a bit harsh.
I think TheLonghairedGirl is very supportive and helpful in her posts. If she's upsetting you in some way, mention it to Bill or someone.
Personally I don't have any problem with her posting.
wolfeyes.
I agree 100% with wolfeyes on this one..........especially in this case.
The rules state that unless she's giving advice in some form, it's against the rules.
This is a MEN'S longhair hyperboard. I know this will come off as a major double standard to some of you, but think about it. What if three more women posted just pics of their hair? This board would be far from Men's only.
Amen. I have nothing against women doing everything a man does but do men go to salons? Do men go to manicure shops? Do men watch Lifetime? I hope to God not! And so we let ladies have their places yet the man's sanctity fails when he can go nowhere without a lady there. Hardware stores, war, a hyperboard LABELED AS MEN's! There must be a dividing line! The ladies have their things and the men must have their things. The men do not invade the old ladie's conasta night and yet ladies invade poker night. Again, ladies should be able to do whatever a man can but let us have some privacy, I mean war is not the place for a lady. I mean she physically can go to war but it is not the place to send a lady, it's dirty, grimy, stinky (possibly) and it's full of bloodshed. If she wants to go she is an ob ject of pitty. I hope I'm not comming off as sexist.
Only if you're serious. :-)
Worryingly, I think he is.... (just check out some of his earlier posts). Strange - so very, very strange.
WAR IS A SANCTITY!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?
only thing i will agree on is war is not the place for a woman, BUT war is also not the place for a man, or any other living thing on this planet for that matter
"War is not healthy for children and other living things"
plenty of men go to salons also, whats wrong with that? its better then a barber-shop that knows like 3 haircuts
guess what, i've gone to a basically all-female stylest/salon before, does that make me any less of a man?
you keep bringing up God yet you come off as a huge Hypocrit, men and women are 100& equal in all ways and can do anything the other can
you claim to reprisent God? God is LOVE, i don't see you showing much love man.....
I show lots of love and you don't even know me "man." I am a good person and I do my best to represent God, I would like to see you do better and keeping in mind I have not come here to preach really. But fine, go to your salon, invade the ladie's places, go to Lane Bryant, go play Conasta with the old ladies, and then that gives them all the more reason to invade our sanctity. We can and must do many things together but again, the men must have their own places to gather and burp without saying excuse me and the ladies must have their places to gather without men burping. (URP!)
well i'll just say this man, i prefer the company of many women anyday over a group of immature burping men
(no i'm not putting down anybody here, but immaturity and being a pig are uncalled for in any setting) it has nothing to do with "playing conasta with the old ladies" dude, it has to do with the fact that i'm a normal heterosexual ladies man who happens to love women and enjoy their company, the hair salon thing on the other hand has nothing to do with this, most barbers dont know the first thing about long hair, the female hair stylests do and are always willing to recieve their pay, regardless of the customers gender. if a service is good i use that service, if a service is bad i don't use that service, its as simple as that.
also theres no reason to put down how i talk, it's called respect man. i tend to type the same way i talk in real life. i can already tell we come fom VERY diffrent backgrounds
i'm a liberal christian pacafist, i don't come to this board to shove my beliefs down peoples throats or attack people, most people will tell you i'm very easy to get along with, i don't know why you have to attack me
and don't say that i attacked you because i didn't
i mearly stood up for another member of this board who unlike you actally has something posative to contribute
if you want to flame me man, go right ahead i don't care anymore but this board is not the place for it, my email is at the top, feel free to insult me all you want if it makes you feel better about yourself
Let us agree to disagree and I shall no longer post on this particular thread. I myself am too a Christian but I'm also a bit of a right wing kook as Sorted will tell you and a tad on the side of a warmonger. http://www.theamericanparty.org/door/ <--That's my idea of a good political party by the by. But if we can agree to disagree then things may be much easier as it is next to impossible to change another person's views (Except Kerry, just look at him the wrong way and he'll flip flop :D) and so to keep arguing about sanctity and non-sanctity is useless. And Sorted, I am single but I have found a lady that I am trying to put the grooves on to start a relationship, ok? And before anybody gets funny ideas I did not argue my points for some "homosexual, men only" agenda, far from it as I am not...let's not start an argument on that, I just argued my views because I think that man and woman should both have places they can go when they need to get away from eachother. Ok? Are we done here?
Wow - we are gonna have to talk about these guys Marc...
Quote from the above web site:
What is the difference between the Supreme Court and the KKK? Justices wear black robes and scare white people to death!
Hmmm....they sound like a really mature and well balanced Party don't they???
Great, Good Luck with girl, I hope it goes well, my fingers are crossed for you...
Sorted

Yeah, that quote I didn't understand. That one or the one about money, like they don't want coins anymore, but hey, they want to end abortion and that's great.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ...
ok, you say your a christian and thats cool man,
incase you didn tknow, the meaning of the word "CHRISTIAN" mean's "To Be Christ-Like" you admit your a warmonger,
for some reason i don't see Christ being a warmonger or hating women
you hate Hippies?, Jesus is the orginal longhaired Hippie so GROW UP and if your gonna slam others with your beliefs atleast be man enough to STICK to them
i'm not perfect, infact i'm FAR from it but i, unlike you, follow what i believe in
i'd like to see what you have to say, again feel free to email me if you want to insult me because it doesn't belong here on the board
Look buddy, I'm not trying to start an argument and I said nothing personal about you and then you go and call me un-Christianly? Well now who's being unChristianly, the one who goes to the dark depths of war and helps people find God there or the one who accuses others of being a bad person? And I AM NOT A WOMAN HATER and I highly resent that you would call me such a thing as I am not at all that kind of person. Mysoginist is what the term is for a woman hater and I am not a mysoginist. And I hate hippies in the sense of the ones who sit there and smoke pot all day and preach Communism. I don't hate Jesus, I love Jesus as he is not what I call a hippy, he was a kind man with long hair and the long hair has nothing to do with hippyism. There are long haired right wing nuts out there. So get off your high horse, you admit you're not perfect so don't act like it and I always stick to my principals and see no point where I flip floped. I simply wanted to stop a discussion before it turned into an argument but then you had to go and bring it to that level. Well if you want to argue then I'm ready buddy, if you'll accept my offer of peace then "Let's have peace" (-U.S. Grant). No point in fighting on and on about opinions. I have mine, you have yours, we can't change eachother's views so let's just drop it. Do you accept, yes or no? If you want to carry this into a debate/argument then you are the one who fired the first shot, not me.
You sound quite a bit like my husband, who is the most manly man I've ever known, complete with awesome long hair. You project a sense of personal integrity and comfort in your skin regardless of what others try to project onto you, and I find those traits admirable and very manly.
How long is your hair?
Now I'm off to read more of what you've written here. :-)
JE
P.S. Do you like poetry (chuckling at Sorted)?
thank you
mid back at the moment, i want it longer though
i'm going to post some pictures later today or tomarrow when i get everything set up
actually yes, i write poetry, that and songs help ease my depression sometimes
Ladies and Gentlement allow me to thank my good friend Marc for his vision of sexual apartheid... I've just realised why this guy is still single. ;-)
Sorted
My friends, you are letting this happen and you're infact helping it with open arms! How will you feel of your past deeds when you look at the present (future) and find you can go nowhere that is a manly place? I don't go to the womenly places, I go to manly places and both-sex-places, such as churches or something. Sorted, I never told you I was single nor have I ever stated as to such a thing so how would you know?
The way you talk about women makes it a dead cert that your single mate.
Plus you have mentioned other things to me in our discussions about the santity of marriage that hint your single, it wasn't a big jump to make.
Sorted
Umm, well, you are coming across as very sexist. There is no law or rule that says any of the things you listed are sanctified as exclusively men's. That's using the same illogic as many people who say that long hair should be the sole domain belonging to women alone. If you can think out of the box for that issue, then try it with all issues.
The only things that women CANNOT do are become fathers and write yellow words in the snow.
Also, for the record, we're women. If you use the word "men," then call us "women." Likewise:
boy - girl
guy - gal
gentleman - lady
masculine - feminine
man - woman
It's a matter of equality.
JE
Thank U Lady G!
Couldn't have said it better... :)
I was simply posting a progress pic of my hair, nothing more...I would think of it as also contributing to the others here who are growing their hair...but because I'm a woman, it seems to be a problem for "those who had responded negatively"...I've already explained why I started posting here...no need to repeat myself.
Thee Longhaired Gal
And is this the law?
I would welcome three more women posting here, be it pics or advice. I think we all need to take a chill pill.
If you're going to get so dang picky then why not observe the rule that you need to choose a handle and stick with it. Longhaired Paul, you're getting really annoying about this, and if you look in the past week or so, there's one heckuva lot more input from TheeLonghairedGal on mens hair than there is any of your input on anything!
Somebody who contributes more is allowed to break the rules?
I personally welcome any hair related post, be that from a m or f. Makes a refreshing change from all the 'poll' ones we've been getting which sorta do my head in : (
I agree, I don't think your post has any real reason for being here.
DUDE, GROW UP, there is no diffrence between Male hair and Female hair, its all the same so why should it matter if she posts a progress picture? you wouldent mnd if i post one, why? because i'm a male? you keep brining up the FAQ, yes the FAQ does say we need to stay on topic, so all those posts about music, wrestling, movies etc. were on topic then? i didn't see you flaming them
the FAQ says ANYONE can participate as long as they stay on topic, now i ask you what is the topic here? it's HAIR, and what did she post about? HAIR, DUH, why does the gender of the body that the hair is attached to? were not discussing bodys or gender, i think your just being a Sexist, theres no reason she can't post a progress picture just like you and i can,
i'm starting to get fed up with all this bickering on here
do you REALLY have nothing better to do than to flame someone else? if you dont like the post, fine don't look at it, but please don't attack her either
point is this, her post was ON TOPIC, your attack of her was not,you talk about staying on topic and reading the FAQ, looks like you just contradicted yourself there.....
In other words, it's perfectly okay to post about all this irrelevant crap as long as it's done by a male? Half of the posts here don't even have anything to do with hair, for goodness sake! At least Thee Longhaired Gal is staying on topic.
Huey
If it's about long hair, I can't see a problem
It's supposed to be about men's long hair.
If the majority doesn't like the rule, change the rule.
But the board will be a much less interesting place.
I think she's entittled to post a progress picture. She's a regular contributor and a welcome member of the community. This kind of post is more ON-TOPIC than posts like:
SEE HERE! THE ULTIMATE THEORETICAL QUESTION! - Think Tank
POLL: your type of woman. - Tarikh
my gf's haircut (w/pics) - Redleader
Why Do most Americans and Some british only know 1 language - Kenneth
I've got nothing against any of thest posts... and atleast Thee LongHair Girl has got part of the subject on topic, her post is atleast about hair... something that the others (except Redleader) failed to do.
Nicely? How about fantasticaly!!!!! Nice website and I note w/interest the last pic which shows the back hair "setting-in," my own stage happening at the moment.
Easy to see why you are so happy with your hair.........and thank you for the support you have given us guys. Much appreciated.
Thanks. And may your hair continue on in good luck also.
Hello Justin,
And thanks for the nice comment :)
You're welcome, and how long is your hair now?
Mine is doing great! Length is almost now to 14." Thank you ever so much for asking. That was ever so kind of you to do so.
You may have read in other posts that I am not a "computor person." :-( However, I have 5 (I think acceptable photos) awaiting help in getting them loaded into the computor and on the Hyperboard. Thought it would be done last week for sure and then everything fell-through. Absolutely frustrating! Two wonderful guys on this Hyperboard gave me such great tips on how to do it. I need to be shown and am sorry to have let them down.
It is one thing to see your hair in the mirror........but I NEVER imagined it looked so well when I saw it photographed on the Digital Camera recently purchased. It took me by great suprise to say the least.
All the best-
Justin
btw: I am aiming at waist lenght. (2 more years to reach that if "terminal" doesn't get in the way.)
Hey Justin!
Would be great to see a pic of your hair :)
I am glad it's growing strong...keep it up!
Thee Longhaired Gal
Looking verra nice!
Thanks Ball Guy!
Your hair is doing well I see...looking great! Those curls are just fantastic!
I like it ;) How long did it take for the layers to go away? Did you suffer from a 'when barbers attack' episode too?
Love,
Kiat T.
Hey Kiat :)
Your hair is just as awesome! I like the fact that you have straight black hair...that's nice.
Ha-Ha, no I didn't really suffer from any kind of "barbers attack"...like I "tried" to explain before, my main reason was the constant headaches I was getting...this might sound unusual to some, but I did get them...you see, I have very very thick and heavy hair....it might not look like that now, but once it gets longer, I can feel the weight of it...
And because of the fact that in summer I hardly wear my hair loose, it's just too damn hot for that...so I wear it in a ponytail, and I guess that also contributes to the headaches I used to get perhaps...whenever I went to bed at night, and after I untied my hair, I could feel the pain on my scalp after it being tied up the whole day...and then short afterwards the headaches would start....
But I have to say I'm impressed with alot of guys on here, the way they are managing their hair.
I can only wish all of you the best and keep growing the hair!
Thee Longhaired Gal
Ahh, now I see. If I wear my hair up and it's poorly anchored, I can get a headache, too. It used to bother me to put a ponytail high in the same way it bothers you, but after a while I got used to it. I've heard of other women who managed to adjust to wearing a topknot, and after a few weeks the pain went away.
LOL, yeah I should have explained it better I guess...
I acutally did try a topknot, but my hair doesn't stay in place...so I figured I'd use two "pencils" to keep it up..it works for the most of the day, but eventually needs adjustment again...
Btw, I really enjoy some of your advice you've been giving on here..
Wow, nice to see you!
LOL a lady lurker..me? Nah, I'm just contributing in my own way to men's longhair in general and try to share my advice the best way I can, with everyone on here, male or female, but then again, "some" people, who I do not need to mention, thinks otherwise and obviosly doesn't agree :)
Nice hair! I really like your color, it's very beautiful!
~Blonde~
Thank you very much Blonde :) I really appreciate the support and kind words.
I wish you the best on growing your hair too!
Your hair looks terrific, and it has a nice smile to go along with it. Nice work!
Tonez
Hey! Fantastic, simply fantastic hair! Yea, these people are so great, I doubt I would have achieved even half the length I have now if it wasn´t from here. I´m in, Northern Spain right now, and I´m taking real good care of my hair like you suggested! It´s awesome here.
Keep the growing up!!
Hey,
Glad you're enjoying your vacation! It must be hot there...I know when I was there it was...but anyways I'm glad that you took my advice as positive help! :)
You should keep the growing up as well!
