My wife encouraged me to grow my hair long over the past few years. I can't tell you what a great thing that was for me. I've always loved having long hair as a child(mom let my baby curls grow really long, and as a teenager), and now that I'm 23, I am in a professional position, but one that is protected by federal discrimination laws. So I probably will lose a promotion or two over my dress and hairstyle, but they can't fire me. Thru my wife's guidance and love, my hair reached 6 inches below my shoulder blades....just yesterday she took me to her stylist and I received a shoulder length page boy with long bangs, and a body wave to curl under the ends. I also got a lesson in how to set my hair so that it always looks just right. I was astonished after I saw "me" for the first time in my new do. My wife adores it. I can't wait to go into work today and hear all the comments and receive all those stares.........I must say that I feel strangely liberated, as if I shed off any hidden masks....that this is who I really want to be.

You are very lucky that you have your wife's support. She must be a wonderful woman. My wife does not support me in my wanting to grow my hair out. I would like to grow it out and get a nice chin length bob cut with bangs but she isn't into that. Right now my hair is slightly layered with graduating layers. I have bangs to my brows. The length in the back is about two inches below my ears and on the sides it falls about 3/4 of the way down my ears. I'm close to a bob but nowhere near the one length chin bob that I would like. I like the attention that I get as well. I am also in a professional position and none of my co-workers seem to think twice about my hairstyle.I did have basically a one length bob just below my ears with bangs and I loved it and it looked great. Due to pressure from my wife I cut it. How can I convince her to let me get the bob?
I would say that you should discuss with her in depth the reasons that you feel comfortable with that hairstyle. My wife likes me looking this way...in fact I was content with long straight hair. I was apprehensive when the stylist began to cut my hair. I was even more apprehensive when I had a head full of curlers and perm lotion applied. I was really afraid that I would look way too feminine. But my wife reassured me that it was something between her and I, and that if we are happy with it , then that's all that matters. I got used to it(and loved it) as soon as I looked at myself in the mirror. I certainly understand your desire. I think you just need to convince your wife that you want it, and that you will look good in that style, and that she will adjust to it. Good luck. Email me the results

we need a pic of this
What do you want a picture of?
The final style!!
does your wife like you hair cut now? Or doe dhe still want it shorter? Does she wear her hair the way you want it or the way she
wants it? I went thru the same thing and finally cut it; but she still didn't like. She want me to do what she wanted and she wanted
to do what she wanted. Ended up getting a divorce at 35 yrs. Now
i can do what i want when I want to. I've let mine grow about 3 years now and still love it. I dont have the hassle of listening to
complain all the time about getting a hair cut. Just hope you don't
have to go thru what I did.
Why did you decide to cut your hair? Did you know exactly what the sytlist was going to do? If your wife wanted this style for you, why did she choose such a fem. style?
Just curious.
is a body wave like a perm? I usually us a curl brush to get my ends
to curl under with the blow dryer but its kind of a hassle and Page boy Ive never heard the term before is it similar to a "Bob" I have a shoulder length "Bob"and love it but wish my end were curled under.
I've never had one, but I think a body wave is a perm using large rollers, instead of the small ones that are used for a curly perm, and may not be processed as long. From the name, it obviously adds body, and I think also helps some kinds of hair hold a set better.
I'm not anxious to perm my hair, which is also in a kind of bob style. I've also found that using a brush and blow dryer is a nuisance. I get the ends to curl under, and get a smooth look by using rollers instead of a brush. Using rollers takes less time and effort, and gives me a better result. I roll my hair on velcro rollers when it's almost dry, then dry the hair on the rollers using the blow dryer for a few minutes. Then I leave the rollers in and let the hair cool off while I finish getting ready in the morning, taking the rollers out last. There are many kinds of hair, but I find this works well for me. The result is more well-groomed look, like a guy who's willing to spend some time to make his hair look nice, than an especially feminine look.

A pageboy is a long bob. If your hair is one length to the shoulder with bangs then you have a pageboy. Also, a suggestion for turning your ends under is to have a stylist do a perm thing with them. I have heard of this but have never seen or tried it. Just a thought.
If this thread is still alive...here's my page boy tale
I wore my hair in a side-parted bob or page boy style for many years. The length varied from just covering my ears, to shoulder length. It all started when I gave in to my wife's constant nagging (big mistake!) to get rid of my ponytail. I went to a "men's hairstylist" who cut my hair in a style that just covered my ears. This was the late Seventies and the style was pretty common then. It was kind of like Carl Sagan wore, when he made the "Cosmos' series.
I thought the style was too short, but really enjoyed spending time with the blow dryer and brush and spraying the resulting "coif." When it had grown out quite a bit, I returned to the same stylist for a trim. Wow, did he botch the job! That was my last trip to a "men's hairstylist"!
When my hair reached shoulder length I began going to a beauty salon for trims. Even though I couldn't wear bangs, because I was thinning on top, I loved my page boy style.
It took quite a bit of work to style my curly hair into a smooth bob, with the ends carefully turned under. I used a blow dryer and round brush and sometimes a curling iron to get the look I wanted. I never set it on rollers then, something I still regret.
I wore it for a long time, well over 10 years. I went through several brushes, 2 blow dryers, and probably a number of cases of hairspray.
I got several comments over the years about the "done" look of my hair. Most were positive.
The few photos I have from then, are all "ID card" type, but I keep them carefully.
I finally had to give up that style when I got too bald on top.
I still have long hair, and still find ways to enjoy styling it.
