Hi Guys! Ive been trying to grow my hair for about 6-7 months now and my problem is everytime I take a bath I loss about 15 to 20 strands approx. is this normal? not to mention when i comb or brush my hair i can see hairs falling as well. I dont know if i have a weak hair or what but can this be avoided or is their a way to make my hair much stronger. I hope someone can halp me with my problem. Thanks!!!
Actually it sounds rather BETTER than most peoples normal natural hair loss to me. I wouldn't give it a bit of worry.
Your hair is simply Awesume!
Good luck to you as you grow it out. It is of the "to die for" type.
Welcome Nyqmaq, 15 to 20 strands of hair shed per day is a VERY low amount. What is happening is that you are shedding old hair strands so new ones can grow back to replace them. Consider yourself truely blessed if you only lose 20 hairs per day. With such a low loss rate due to shedding you should have no difficulty with growing your hair past your waist. Your hair must grow quite fast from what I see in the photo. How long was it when you started growing it 6 or 7 months ago? What is your goal length? Absalom
Recently I've been testing out different periods between washes to find the optimum mix of cleanliness and hair shedding. Here are the rough results:
48 hours between washes: 30+ hairs shed in wash, less than ten hairs shed during the night or during day (at least as I could notice)
72 hours between washes: estimated 70 hairs shed during wash, and today slightly more hair shedding during day and last night
96 hours between washes: estimated 80 hairs shed during wash, same shedding during day and night as 72 hours
More than 4 days: Pretty much the same shedding during washing, but noticeably more hairs fall out during the day and night.
The 72 hour period was tried today (minutes before typing this I combed my hair and knocked 37 hairs out), and going off the numbers above, this option doesn't seem the most ideal. However, I must add that today I was abit rougher while shampooing because I felt I wasn't being thorough. I must also add that the majority of hairs that I combed out were REALLY thin, and I could barely notice them when placed on my hand. This would suggest I got rid of the really weak underlying hairs that previously I hadn't reached.
I'm probably looking into this too much, and I think 2 days is too much for me and my dry hair (even with conditioner I could barely comb it before washing it today).
I am really eager to treat my hair so that it grows much stronger - thick hairs stick out like a sore thumb compared to my many fine shed hairs. Will vitamins do the trick? People only ever seem to discuss hair growth speed when vitamins are concerned....
Sorry for the looong post, and for hijacking your thread Nyqmaq. I posted this here to highlight how great 20 shed hairs is.
Thanks
Matt.
It's normal.
