After a day outside with perhaps a bit too much sun applied to my body, I'm left with an interesting design on my back. My entire back is mostly a shade of red except for a V-shaped lighter patch extending from my neck and tapering to mid-back. The result of keeping my hair in a low ponytail, which must have stuck in place. :-)
I know what you mean! Hair is a great protection from the sun. When I had short hair I always had a sunburn on my ears and on my neck. But since my hair is long I don't have any problems about that. But be careful, your haircolor will change, when the sun shines on your hair too long!

I know what you mean. I've just arrived home from Northern Spain on my holidays, and only after 4-5 days of being there, my hair is looking quite dramatically different to before. I have mousy brown hair with natural highlights and slightly sunbleached normally, and what was really bugging me was that I felt my hair had a greenish tint.
So I used Sun and Sea shampoo and conditioner everyday and sat in the Sun for long periods and now all the green has vanished and I'm left with healthy looking fairly blonde hair! :))
So haircolour damage can be a really good thing lol.
Why of course hair is a good sunblock, it is almost entirely composed of melanin, the pigment in most peoples skin which gives relative natural UV protection. However as discussed above the sun is also damaging to your hair :( For your sunburn I would recommend aloe vera gel, and next time a UVA/B photostable sunscreen!
